Joel Richardson is a Toronto artist and muralist - if you pass through Toronto's underpasses on the West end of the city, you often find Richardson's murals.
Phil asks him to identify his murals. Richardson plans to set a world record on the number of people engaged in wearing suits and meditating simultaneously in an attempt to reverse policy on development.
He also describes his involvement in the Occupy Movement in liberating the wall of the J.P. Morgan building.

David Cay Johnston talks about his book "The Fine Print: How Big Companies Use 'Plain English' to Rob You Blind" with Jayne O'Donnell, USA Today Money Reporter.

A big reason is that so little of the news . . . addresses the private, government-approved mechanisms by which price gouging is employed to redistribute income upward.â
David Cay Johnston is an American investigative journalist, author and a specialist in economics and tax issues. Mr. Johnston won the Pulitzer Prize in 2001 for beat reporting.

Historian Clayborne Carson on Tavis Smiley Show
Historian Clayborne Carson is director of The Martin Luther King, Jr. Research and Education Institute at Stanford University and has devoted much of his professional life to the study of Dr. King. He helped design the King National Memorial. In his memoir, Martin's Dream, he traces his evolution from political activist to activist scholar.

A trio of speakers this week, two of them have been regular contributors to the show. We listen in on a conference that happened in California in 2011 entitled Earth At Risk. While they outline contrasting approaches to resistance, the speakers are united in their conviction that the culture of capitalist golobalisation has no mechanism for self-regulation and so Direct Action is necessary to stop its ongoing ecocide.

SEN. WARREN PROPOSES STUDENT LOAN RELIEF
Massachusetts Senator ELIZABETH WARREN held a national conference call to promote her "Bank on Student Loans Fairness Act," which would subsidize new student borrowers at 0.75% interest - the same rate as banks. Current student loan rates are scheduled to double to nearly seven percent at the end of this month.

On the evening of June 3rd, 2013, our dear friend and WBAI colleague Ibrahim Gonzalez passed away at home, in his sleep. Ibrahim was known both personally and institutionally as the "Mambo Dervish," based on his skill as a bandleader and conga player, for his devotion to Sufi Islam, and for his free-form and musical programs "In The Moment" and "Radio Libre!"
The David Orchard Campaign: Ten Years After 'The Deal'

June 2013 marks the tenth anniversary of the Progressive Conserevative Party of Canada's final leadership Convention in which Peter Mackay secured the leadership with the help of rival David Orchard. Mackay broke Orchard's critical condition for support, namely that he would not merge the party with the Canadian Alliance, a right of centre US Republican-style party led by Stephen Harper. This episode looks back at that convention, the Orchard campaign, and some of the activities that played out during that leadership bid with implications for the current government in Ottawa.

But just what kind of war is being fought? The Toronto Star quoted an Imam from Qatar - his language was utterly inflammatory and sectarian. Mahdi Nazemroaya has the answers, including Israel's involvement. Israel is using Lebanon to attack Syria.
In Turkey, Erdogan's attempt to gain popularity through fake support for the Palestinian cause is wearing thin. His 'neo-Ottoman' policy was always the subordination of Islam to capitalism. Erdogan's covert war on Syria has impacted Turkish trade.

Childhood cancer is an overwhelming diagnosis that affects everyone close to the child and their family. Connorâs Heroes is a non-profit that addresses the practical, emotional, and social needs of children with cancer and their families, providing support for the ~60 patients who are diagnosed and treated in Richmond each year. There are several ways for individuals and groups to volunteer: packing Heroesâ Bags and Backpacks (filled with distracting fun toys for the kids and helpful vouchers for the familyâs day-to-day errands), delivering gifts or decorating rooms for kids at Masseyâs Bone Marrow Transplant Unit, and mentoring patients and their siblings as Superheroes and Sidekicks. Upcoming endeavors include a care calendar to outsource basic tasks (like cooking meals, running errands, or mowing the lawn), to friends, families and volunteers. Connorâs Heroes has touched hundreds of lives and eased the practical burden of coping with pediatric cancer treatment by providing social support. Consumers are becoming more eco-conscious and little by little, investors are too. A company that shows regular profits might look like a sound investment, but if that company engages in irresponsible practices that are likely to create an environmental catastrophe, investors should know about it. Not only would investing in that company promote irresponsible behavior, it might well yield poor returns when the company finds itself facing multiparty lawsuits.
This week on Sea Change Radio, host Alex Wise speaks to Allen White and Mark Tulay, two executives from the newly launched Global Initiative for Sustainability Ratings, or GISR. GISR is a rating system that supplements an investorâs understanding of a company by focusing on environmental and social factors. Partnering with reputable organizations such as the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board, or SASB, as well as the Global Reporting Initiative, GISR has the bold ambition of transforming the very definition of corporate value in the 21st century.
