Store Wars: When Wal-Mart Comes to Town focuses on consumerism in the U.S. China Blue investigates the sweatshop labour conditions in the manufacturing of the clothes we buy. The last film in the series is Bitter Seeds, looking at the crisis of the farmers in India who grow the cotton. Micha Peled speaks with Redeye host Jane Williams.
Bangladesh catastrophe and the sweatshop industry

Over a thousand workers died in the recent collapse of a garment factory in Bangladesh. We speak with labour activist David Bacon about the historical context of the sweatshop industry. Bacon is an independent writer and photographer whose work has centered on the lives and struggles of working people.

This version of the program is divided into 6 segments so broadcasters who desire to use this content can insert your station info, etc. The segments vary in length, but I try to keep them approximately 30 minutes in most cases.
Out of the Woods is an earthy, wires and wood, mostly acoustic program featuring some of the best new and established artists from the worlds of folk, bluegrass, singer-songwriters, alt.country, Americana, classic country, old-time, Celtic, and everything that falls in between. The show is an unpredictable mix flowing like a river between moods, often with an edge or in a melancholy minor key. On occasion, Out of the Woods features interviews and live in-studio performances with national and international touring musicians. Past guests have included artists such as Bela Fleck, Si Kahn, Brown Bird, Dana Robinson, Steve Gillette & Cindy Mangsen, Bill Bourne, Karl Shiflett, Rachel Bissex, Darryl Purpose, Bow Thayer, Cosy Sheridan and many others. Out of the Woods grew out of Jon 'Chip' Colcord's former acoustic programs, The Song Swap and Music For The Mountain, separate folk and bluegrass programs which aired in New Hampshire during the 1990s. As a child, Colcord grew up a ravenous music fan with an ear for both rock and folk, from Arlo Guthrie to Aerosmith. In 2012, there were 39 workplace deaths reported in Manitoba and more than 30,000 workplace injuries. Statistics on workplace accidents and injuries are based only on what's reported and there is evidence that workers are under-reporting their injuries. The report Fair Compensation Review states that employers routinely encourage workers to not report injuries, a practice called claims suppression. There's more information at mfl.mb.ca.
