This was after an old article of hers came to light seriously questioning the official story of the September 11 terrorist attacks. Later on, Richard Sanders of the Coalition Opposed to the Arms Trade shares his research about the extent to which Canadians unwillingly and unknowingly benefit from pension funds invested in the Israeli military and security appartus. We end the show with Stephen Lendman explaining the dangerous result of the last Israeli elections.

How to Talk to a Cop...If You Want To

Professional police first appeared in America almost a half-century after the ratification of the Constitution. The Framers had contemplated enforcement of the Law as the duty of private citizens, with few constables and sheriffs on the side who could be called upon when necessary. Modern policing would be regarded by the Framers as abhorrent to the fundamental principles of republicanism, especially considering how the growth of militarized police has permanently expanded the centralized power of the State. Historically, patriots have been particularly concerned about the behavior of the government's foremost agents in the field. Thus, it would behoove everyone within the Patriot Community to learn how to diplomatically interact with officers, by following some "rules of the road" so as to retain what liberty we have left. Tonight, we will be discussing how to handle police interrogations and what you need to do in order to turn these involuntary encounters around in your favor.

Mia Mingus: The Magnificence of Taking Care of Each Other

Mia Mingus is a queer physically disabled woman of color, korean transracial and transnational adoptee writer and organizer. She was raised in St. Croix, USVI, lived 12 years in Atlanta, Georgia and currently lives in Oakland, California. Through her work on disability justice and transformative justice to end child sexual abuse; she recognizes the urgency andbarriers for oppressed communities to work together and build solidarity for liberation. She works for community, interdependency and home for all of us. As her work for liberation evolves and deepens, her roots remain firmly planted in ending sexual violence. Over the years, her activism has included work addressing reproductive justice, queer liberation, cross-movement building, feminism, transracial and transnational adoptees, radical women of color racial justice, disability justice, transformative justice, child sexual abuse, challenging privilege and anti-oppression and community building. She also has a passion for community fundraising and communication skills. Mia is currently giving speeches, workshops and trainings around the country to support her writing and work with the Bay Area Transformative Justice Collaborative (BATJC). The BATJC is a collective working to build transformative justice responses to child sexual abuse that do not rely on the state (i.e. police, prisons, the criminal legal system). She was a co-founder and Co-Director of SPARK Reproductive Justice Now, in Atlanta, GA for 6 years. She was a member of the Atlanta Transformative Justice Collaborative for 4 years and worked as staff at generationFIVE for 2 years. In 2010, she was part of Creating Collective Access in Detroit and she is part of the on-going experiential project, To the Other Side of Dreaming. Mia was a 2005 New Voices Fellow, was named one of the Advocate’s 40 Under 40 in 2010, one of the 30 Most Influential Asian Americans Under 30 in 2009 by Angry Asian Man, and one of Campus Pride’s Top 25 LGBT Favorite speakers for their 2009 and 2010 HOT LIST. Mia was honored with the 2008 Creating Change Award by the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force and a community activist award for her “dedication and steadfast activism” in 2007 by ZAMI.

Loretta Ross: Claiming our Bodies through the Human Rights Framework

Loretta Ross has a 25-year history in the women’s movement, both in ending violence against women and promoting reproductive justice in the United States and internationally, and was active in the black nationalist and civil rights movements. A founding member of SisterSong, Loretta Ross became National Coordinator in 2005. In 2004, Loretta was National Co-Director of the April 25, 2004 March for Women’s Lives in Washington, DC, the largest protest march in US history with more than one million participants. From 1996-2004, she was the Founder and Executive Director of the National Center for Human Rights Education (NCHRE) in Atlanta, Georgia. She is an expert on human rights, women’s issues, diversity issues, hate groups and right-wing organizations. Ross is presently writing a book on reproductive rights entitled Black Abortion. In 2003, Ross received an honorary Doctorate of Civil Law degree from Arcadia University. Ross was one of the first African American women to direct the first rape crisis center in the United States in the 1970s. From 1985 to 1989, she served as the Director of Women of Color Programs for the National Organization for Women, organizing the first national conference on Women of Color and Reproductive Rights in 1987. Prior to developing NCHRE in 1996, she served as the national program research director for the Atlanta-based Center for Democratic Renewal (CDR) (formerly the National Anti-Klan Network) from 1990 to 1995 and program director of the National Black Women’s Health Project from 1989-1990. She is a political commentator for Pacifica News Service, and has appeared as a political commentator on Good Morning America, The Donahue Show, The Charlie Rose Show, CNN, and BET. Loretta Ross’s recent publications include: Undivided Rights: Women of Color Organizing for Reproductive Justice (South End Press, 2004), co-authored with Jael Silliman, Marlene Fried, and Elena Gutierrez “The Color of Choice” in Color of Violence: The INCITE! Anthology (South End Press, 2006) “African American Women and Abortion After Roe,” in Abortion Wars: A Half Century of Struggle: 1950-2000 (Beacon Press) edited by Rickie Solinger “Bringing Human Rights Home: Human Rights Education for the 21st Century,” in Social Education, 62(6), National Council for the Social Studies Loretta’s talk will be called ”Claiming Our Bodies Through the Human Rights Framework”. It will discuss the 8 categories of human rights to which everyone is entitled, and how to account for differences and diversities in making human rights claims.

Bob Alvarez: Spent Fuel Pools and Radioactive Waste

Bob Alvarez, Senior Scholar at the Institute for Policy Studies became the focus of intense character assassination by the nuclear industry when he wrote in April 2012: Why Fukushima Is a Greater Disaster than Chernobyl and a Warning Sign for the U.S. He explained: "The radioactive inventory of all the irradiated nuclear fuel stored in spent fuel pools at Fukushima is far greater and even more problematic than the molten reactor cores." "Spent" fuel is a misnomer, far from being harmless, irradiated fuel remains too radioactive to handle for 5 years and thermally and radiologically dangerous way beyond that period. When the US government was looking for permanent storage for high level waste, which includes fuel rods, they were looking for a site that would remain safe for at least 100,000 years. Not surprisingly they found none, and had to recognize that Yucca Mountain, Nevada, was not safe either.

Rebuilding Together Richmond

Rebuilding Together Richmond is a home repair non-profit that rehabilitates damaged and unsafe properties, serving disabled and elderly homeowners who are not able to sufficiently rehabilitate or maintain their home. Decrepit homes that have ceased to be safely livable may need extensive renovation; Rebuilding Together mobilizes manual labor volunteers to improve the construction. In other instances, the task is small but the impact enormous: for a disabled resident, specialized railings or ramps may make the difference between remaining independent in one's home and being obliged to seek institutional care; Rebuilding Together relies on the expertise of occupational therapists to design these components. Rebuilding Together is a national collection of 200+ affiliates who revitalize the residential infrastructure of local communities, and the Richmond office was established in 1992. Since then, Rebuilding Together Richmond has rehabilitated more than 1000 homes. Executive Director Amy King urges Richmonders to volunteer for National Rebuilding Day (April 27, 2013). Rebuilding Together Richmond is concerned with supporting those who need support, and thus concentrates on low-income neighborhoods, where homeowners, volunteers, and communities can benefit the most from Richmond's transformation, block-by block.
