Canadian government cuts health care for refugees

Effective June 30, 2012, the Canadian government will reduce the federal health care services provided to refugees. Medication, emergency dental care and vision care will no longer be provided. Preventative health care will be limited and some refugee claimants will be denied even emergency care. Mike Dillon, a family doctor who has worked with newcomers in Winnipeg for nearly 20 years, talks about the impact of the changes. DRONES COMING HOME TO ROOST IN AMERICA
The Obama administration this week claimed to have executed by drone their umpteenth so-called "Al Qaeda Number 2" - this time in Pakistan, where 15 others were similarly killed by remote control this week. Meanwhile, Congress and the White House are rushing to impose a pervasive drone surveillance regime across the United States.

Packed Court House and hundreds in the streets for Cece McDonald

On Monday June 4th Cece McDonald was sentenced to 41 months in prison. The court rooms were packed with friends family and supporters wearing purple as requested by Cece and free Honey Bea T-shirts. Community members will be watching closely in hopes that she won't be held in solitary confinement again.
Following Cece's sentencing Earful of Queer spoke with Katie Burgess from the Minneapolis Transgender Youth support Network and Lex Horan from the Cece McDonald Support Committee.
Later that evening a march and noise demo took place where hundreds took to the streets and blocked traffic for over an hour and yelled so loud that Cece could hear them through the prison's walls.
Leslie Feinberg has visited Cece, was there in court supporting her and has been speaking out against the racist and transphobic violence that the state has enacted upon Cece. During the demo Feinberg was arrested and charged. Feinberg's statement was read by Sidney B.

John Fuller delved into freedom of information files on the behavior of the Atomic Energy Commission from 1953 to the late nineties. The AEC denied that the deaths from cancer in St. George, Utah, had anything to do with the fact that the town was repeatedly engulfed in fallout from the bomb tests in Nevada.

Fallout from the atom bombs exploded on the Nevada Test Site affected most seriously communities of Downwinders in Utah but were also recorded 2000 miles away on the East Coast. The author and investigative writer John G. Fuller unraveled the sequence of lies and deception towards the Downwinders of Utah in his book: The Day We Bombed Utah. In a pre-publication article in the May 1983 edition of Omni Magazine he previewed his most important points.

We also have a short interview with Dr. Michael Geist, Dr. Michael Geist is a law professor at the University of Ottawa where he holds the Canada Research Chair in Internet and E-commerce Law. Dr. Geist is an internationally syndicated columnist on technology law issues with his regular column appearing in the Toronto Star and the Ottawa. He speaks to us about new trade agreements being signed by the Canadian government behind closed doors that would change Canadian IP laws (Intellectual Property)and what we need to do to resist as Canadians.
