This week on the Mendocino Country Independent News Hour, host and publisher Chirstina Aanestad speaks with Chief Caleen Sisk Franco of the Winnemen Wintu tribe, sheâs also the tribes spritiual leader, from the Redding Area, they traveled to Vallejo today to request the regional forest service shut down part of the Mcloud river so they can hold their annual puberty ceremony, thatâs a womanâs coming of age ceremony, in peace. The tribe has experienced disruptions from the public in the past, and are asking the federal Forest Service to close off public access to the region they hold ceremony for. Weâll also hear from a spokesperson for the federal forest service-John Heil the Pacific Southwest Region Press Officer for US Forest Service and 2nd District Supervisor John Mccowen speaks with us about medical marijuana, and his vote to approve the EIR for the proposed Harris Rock Quarry.

One important impetus for the creation of international law was the two world wars of the 20th century. The United Nations was born with the intention of preventing war and promoting peace and justice. The International Court of Justice was created at the same time. Michael Mandel is a professor at Osgoode Hall Law School. He examines the record of these institutions.
B.C. criminal justice system in crisis

Christy Clark launched a comprehensive review of the provinceâs justice system two months. She says her goal is to make it more efficient and modern. But a new report prepared for the B.C. Civil Liberties Association says a business administration model wonât help to fix whatâs broken in B.C.âs justice system. Kevin Tilley wrote the report Justice Denied.

Marianne Maeckelbergh is author of the book The Will of Many: How the Alterglobalisation Movement is Changing the Face of Democracy. She explains participatory - or horizontal - democracy.

Survivors of violence face complex legal issues

Over half the women in Canada are survivors of violence. The vast majority of women who seek support services will also have to face legal battles. Angela Marie MacDougall talks about the kind of legal issues that women may have to negotiate. MacDougall is executive director of Battered Women's Support Services.
Canada's record on legislating strikers back to work

Canada's governments are among the worst offenders when it comes to legislating striking workers back to work. Since 1982 more complaints have been made against Canada at the level of International Labour Organization than any other country in the world. Workers in Newfoundland and Labrador have strongly resisted back-to-work legislation in their province. Hans Rollman tells us about a couple of creative strategies unions there used to fight this tactic. Charles Boylan is a Canadian radio broadcaster and political activist. He is former host of Wake up with co-op and current host of Discussion, programs on CFRO 102.7; a community-run, co-operatively-owned, non-corporate radio station broadcasting from Vancouver, British Columbia.
Boylan is also known as an electoral reform activist, active in the movement for proportional representation since 1997 when he became a director of the BC Electoral Change Coalition led by Troy Lanigan of the Canadian Taxpayers' Federation. He was also an active campaigner for Adriane Carr's Free Your Vote initiative in 2001 and 2002.
We speak to Charles about the recent historic rally in Alma Quebec in which 8000 citizens in a town of 30,000 came out in support of the locked out workers from Rio Tinto Alcan. He speaks about how the Quebec government is literally subsidizing the lockout against the workers. This historic event went largely unreported in the main stream media.
He also speaks about the radical agenda of Steven Harper and the introduction of Immigration Bill C31 which will change the fabric of what Canada is.
