If youâre listening to this show, chances are you believe that climate change is real, that itâs a problem, and that human actions have brought us to where we are today.
Some Sea Change Radio listeners are Democrats, some are Republicans, and a large number may not identify with either party â but all are probably pretty concerned about responsible environmental stewardship, irrespective of their specific political party affiliation.
There is one political party here in the United States, however, whose official position is to deny the threat of climate change and block any and all attempts to slow environmental degradation, in spite of the large body of scientific research that contradicts that position. Our guest this week on Sea Change Radio is Chris Mooney, whose book The Republican Brain: The Science of Why They Deny Science â and Reality explores why so many Republicans refuse to accept things that most experts identify as factual. Mooney talks with host Alex Wise about the book, what he posits, and the research that backs him up.

ALEC - WOUNDED, BUT STILL DANGEROUS
The corporate-conservative legislative lobby "ALEC" today cancelled its Public Safety and Elections Task Force, which has promulgated "voter ID" and "stand your ground" laws in dozens of states. The announcement follows national Trayvon Martin protests, and membership cancellations by nearly a dozen major corporate sponsors -- most recently TicketMaster and Blue Cross, along with Coke, Pepsi, McDonalds, Kraft and the Gates Foundation, among others.

We spend the hour with Eugene Jarecki, director of "The House I Live In", a tale of the impact of the war on drugs on Black people and the US' development as a prison state. Jarecki explores the history of the war on drugs, how it's been used against oppressed nationalities in the past and today. He explores what he calls "a slow holocaust" and the warning signs of an encroaching genocide. "The House I Live In" won the Grand Jury Prize, Documentary Division at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival.

In 2010 a U.S. Supreme Court decision rolled back legal restrictions on corporate spending on the grounds that political speech by a business entity could receive the same First Amendment protections that people do. But the notion that corporations are people is under attack. Joel Bakan wrote the essay Psychopaths Inc which challenges the idea of corporate personhood. It appears in the new Occupy Handbook, a new book published in April 2012. Joel Bakan is a professor of law at the University of British Columbia.
