Yesterday, Jim Macdonald was invited to give a talk about Occupy Bozeman's divestment campaign against Wells Fargo.
Jim used the talk to discuss the disempowerment of our voices that results from a system dominated by big national banks, much akin to an essay he wrote recently called: Wells Fargo and the Loss of Our Voices: One Anarchist's View. In that spirit, Jim invited Josh Davis, also of Occupy Bozeman, to talk about his efforts as the Montana coordinator for the Public Banking Institute, an effort to de-centralize the entire banking system - and a potential tactic for divestment of big banks.
A discussion ensues with the group hearing the talk, composed mostly of activists from Helena and Bozeman.

Canadian farmland going for bargain basement prices

There's a land rush going on in the Prairie provinces. Investment companies are buying up large areas of farmland and making a profit from appreciation in the value of land. Melanie Sommerville has been researching One Earth Farms, a company which leases large amounts of land from First Nations. Sommerville is a doctoral student in geography at UBC.

Indian philosopher Krishnamurti once said, âIt is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society.â
The publicâs understanding of mental illness today is based on a theory emphasizing chemical imbalance. But has our focus on brain chemistry removed mental illness from its social context? We know for example, poverty is a significant risk factor for poor mental health. We also know that more unequal societies experience more mental health problems. Understanding mental illness as part of a chemical process has aided tremendously in removing stigma from mental illness, but have we gone too far? By removing mental illness from its social context, by medicating chemical imbalances, are we actually medicating a profoundly sick society?
On Health Justice Radio today we speak with clinical psychologist and author Dr. Bruce Levine about a recent blog post of his entitled, âWhy anti-authoritarians are diagnosed as mentally ill.â
