Rana is a 20 year old student from the Gaza strip who is currently studying business administration, and works as a freelance writer. She has lived all her life in Gaza, but has managed to travel for a few weeks to other parts of the Arab world and Europe. "Occupy Wall Street" Creates a Movement with Labor and Community Support Despite Police Repression.
Occupy Wall Street, the movement whose organizational forms and demands are evolving continues to pick up support including organized labor. Transport Union Local 100, hospitals Local 1199, city workers' DC 37 AFSCME, UAW Local 2110, Teamster Local 814 and building service workers Local 32-BJ were just some of the unions which pledged solidarity at a massive support rally in NYC which drew tens of thousands. An earlier rally saw thousands march from the newly renamed "Liberty Square" on Wall Street to Police Plaza over what they view as excessive force and unfair treatment by the police. The foundation of "Occupy Wall Street" is recognition the richest 1% own more than half of this country's wealth while 1 in 5 in New York City live in poverty. Instead of bailing
out people and helping them get jobs, government bailed out the same institutions that had created the economic crisis, giving them trillions of dollars. Occupy Wall Street" continues to grow and represent the 99% of the

Dr. Vom Saal provides a beautiful description of the scientific literature, which supports the conclusion that bisphenol A (BPA) exposure imposes a substantial quantity of disease risk upon the general public as a result of the use of BPA in our economy. After setting the stage with this brilliant performance, he then presents a powerful charge against the corporate dominated government entities responsible for regulating the use of chemicals and safety of food. Dr. Vom Saal indicts the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the World Health Organization (WHO) for their failures to act upon scientific knowledge for the protection of public health. He carefully explains his basis for criticizing the FDA and WHO.
Donald L. Hassig, Director, Cancer Action NY shares his experiences of similar FDA and WHO failures involving the persistent organic pollutants (POPs) cancer hazard. What Vom Saal and Hassig state is a wake up call for everyone. The governments and the corporations do not care about how much disease is caused by doing business. Making more money regardless of the harm that this causes to environment and health is all that matters to the corporate-government culture. Opposing this wrongful behavior is the only sound path for the people to walk upon. Motivating Government to Warn Public of POPs Cancer Hazard

On September, 20, 2011, a regional news story on the subject of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) exposure cancer risk and activism directed at motivating governmental public health entities including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the New York State Department of Health and the St. Lawrence County Public Health Department to create POPs exposure minimization educational outreach programs within their agencies was broadcast on North Country Public Radio (NCPR), which covers the St. Lawrence River Valley and Adirondack Mountain regions of New York State. The story presents the controversy which swirls around acting upon scientific knowledge to warn the public of the POPs exposure cancer hazard.
Scientists and cancer prevention activists are forging ahead with providing the public with warnings of the POPs exposure cancer hazard. Scientific knowledge supports the conclusion that POPs exposure at current levels of food supply contamination imposes more than an acceptable quantity of cancer risk. In 2010, the World Health Organization (WHO) published the document, titled, "Persistent Organic Pollutants: Impact on Child Health". This public health policy document recommends that health care professionals including physicians, nurses, and public health educators make a concerted effort to minimize the POPs exposure received by all children of the global population. Increased cancer risk, damage to the reproductive system and the immune system, as well as increased risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease were listed by the WHO as adverse effects of POPs exposure. Government public health officials representing New York State and St. Lawrence County take the position that not enough is know about the quantity of cancer risk imposed by POPs exposure to justify provision of a cancer hazard warning. A dairy farmer who also serves as a St. Lawrence County legislator states that he does not want to scare the public.
