World War II
May 1, 2023, 2:13 p.m.
We take a step back in time, to over 80 years ago to World War II, one of the biggest conflicts in human history, which changed modern humanity forever. Learn from Ms. Teresa Rand Bridges' bilingual 5th grade class at Alvarado Elementary, a public school in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
We will hear about where the United States stood, and how the war started in Europe. Students present the story of Anne Franke, and we hear about a Jewish family who escaped thanks to two teenage penpals. This piece is from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.
The kids in Ms. Rand Bridges' class explain how the United States came to enter the war, when a military outpost in Hawaii was bombed by the Japanese military. After Pearl Harbor, over 120,000 Japanese-Americans were imprisoned from March 1942 to November 1945. Producers Robin Amer and Jesse Seay talked with some of their survivors who were themeselves children in that long incarceration, from Listenwise Students.
The students teach us about the role women played in the war, including teaching about Victory Gardens in a bilingual piece. Then we learn about the arsenal of weapons, ships and aircraft used by the Allied and Axis forces. World War II was the most deadly conflict ever in human history, with nearly 52 million people killed worldwide.
World War II came to an end on September 2, 1945, when the final treaty was signed between the Americans and Japanese. The kids in Ms. Rand Bridges' class are from the place where the nuclear bomb was developed and tested. They cover nuclear weapons and the part they played at the end of the war.
All the music we play in this episode either teaches about World War II or is from that era.
This episode was recorded by Terese Rand Bridges at the Alvarado Elementary School in Albuquerque, New Mexico and produced by Senior Producer, Christina Stella with help from Producer Rodrigo Cuenca and Katie Stone, our Executive Producer.

The GOP has been waging war against the future. . . .no I am serious, they have been waging war against the future. The war hasn’t been literal, but it has been practically against the future. Peak Oil was discussed as a certainty for human industrial needs back in the 1970s; the impact oil was having on the environment (i.e. the Greenhouse effect or Climate Change) was cited as a near certainty a decade earlier though science wouldn’t catch up with the certainness of the prediction until the late 80s and early 90s (still over 30 years ago). Both required swift institutional level action to stave off the negative consequences of both phenomena. This institutional action would have to be matched by social cultural adaptation, as well as social economic evolution away from fossil fuels and the carbon emissions they produced; unfortunately, the selfish ones managing the centralized planning structures in Capitalist Industry, Finances and Economic philosophies had other plans. They scoffed at this new outlook, this new required and responsibility, instead decides to aim to recreate what had been destroyed (partially) by the New Deal, that being unlimited corporate power and the ability to control every aspect in human life (which naturally occurred with that power). And thus they have built an economic engine centered around this vision, holding off the necessary changes required to avert the predictable disasters which peak oil and over warming of the atmosphere would create. Sounds interesting right, well this is just an introduction to the forthcoming podcast episode (part).

One of my pet bug-a-boos. . . .yes, still. For those who have been listening to this show for some time, you know how much I dislike the fact that Progressivism remains undefined. There is not philosophy behind it, there are no vision points they seek to realize and ultimately it is so flimsy that anyone can call themselves a Progressive just by saying they believe in Progressivism, which is undefined. Remember when Nancy Pelosi called herself a progressive and meant it. She was technically correct because she believes in higher, progressive taxes for the wealthy. This is the danger of having a political term without a philosophy or structure behind it; everyone can claim it while meaning nothing when they do. This episode is about that bug-a-boo and a lot more (y’all know what to expect by now lol). Enjoy.

Debt as Warfare (WINGS #03-23)
April 30, 2023, 3:47 a.m.
From the WINGS archives. In 1987, when she delivered this talk in San Francisco, political scientist Susan George was a fellow at the Institute for Policy Studies in Washington DC and the Transnational Institute in Amsterdam. She is now President of the Transnational Institute. Her talk lays out the premises that would appear in her 1988 book A Fate Worse than Debt and her subsequent scholarship. She outlines how loans from the International Monetary Fund and World Bank act as Trojan horses for economic colonization, and what populations, especially women, children and the poor, suffer from such debt.

Namrata Chowdhary: Three (50) Is A Magic Number
April 28, 2023, 7:13 p.m.
In the first decade of this century many of us learned that the threshold for keeping our planet healthy was 350 parts per million of carbon dioxide. Advocates like those at 350.org emphasized the need to adopt practices to help the earth stay below that number. Well, unfortunately, we earthlings have blown through that limit and are presently looking at 419 parts per million. But that doesn't mean the idea of lowering our carbon emissions is moribund. And there are still organizations like 350.org keeping the dream alive. This week on Sea Change Radio, we speak to Namrata Chowdhary, the Head of Public Engagement at 350.org. We learn more about the organization's roots, examine some of the fights they've taken on, and discuss how they're planning to evolve. We also talk about the corporatization of some larger environmental organizations and dive into the issues surrounding fossil fuel divestiture.

Frank Pacino– "Life in the Marine Corps"
April 28, 2023, 6:21 a.m.
When recruiters from the Armed Forces of the United States seek out volunteers, they often portray military life to be a great adventure. They talk of schooling, travel and excitement. Sometimes that is not the case. In this edition of Radio Curious, we visit Sgt. Frank Pacino, who spent his early life in Covelo, California and then moved to Ukiah, California. Frank Pacino was recruited into the Marine Corps in early 2001 and is now a Sergeant. He was one of the first troops to go into Iraq in 2002, where he spent approximately six months. He was returned to Iraq in 2004 for a year.
Frank Pacino recommends “Bush At War,” by Bob Woodward.

The "foreign agents registry" plan divides Canadians and undermines democracy.
Canada should join the majority of the world's states in promoting diplomacy and the charter of the United Nations.
Part B:
Japan's leaders continue to show ambivalence toward the fascists who led them into World War 2. The Prime Minister recently sent an offering to the shrine where 14 class-A war criminals are buried. That is a signal that the rulers in Japan harbor ambitions to return to wars of conquest, and it has been condemned by both N. and S. Korea and China.
Canada paid a heavy price fighting Imperial Japan. We too should condemn the macabre practice of honoring war criminals.

CONTAGION. US Banking Woes, and the Rise of the Great Reset
April 27, 2023, 2:38 p.m.
This week, on the Global Research News Hour, as yet another banking institution is in trouble, we reassess the dangers of further troubles spreading across the nation and ascertain the dilemma facing both the giant banks as well as the humble households of America.
In our first half hour, Geo political analyst Peter Koenig speaks of his vision of these bank failures actually being coordinated to help move forward plans to digitize all currency well before the end of the decade. Then in our second half hour, we will hear from Economic thinker and journalist Dr Jack Rasmus about the fundamentals of what happened to Silvergate Capital and Silicon Valley Bank last month, and what may be in store for more banks as the qualifiers continue to go unaddressed.
