The police in Toronto, Canada hope to stop massive G20 protests with four Whale Wars-style LRAD sound cannons and one water cannon. Just one problem-LRAD and rubber bullet fire couldn't stop the last G20 protests in Pittsburgh! I was there-and all the property damage I saw happened after, not before, we were shot at with these weapons...

G8: Near North Mobile Media Lab

CHRY host Candace Mooers is joined by Lieann from the Near North Mobile Media Lab. The Lab provides the tools media artists, students, filmmakers and audiences in Northern Ontario need to produce, present and enjoy contemporary media arts in all its forms. This week they have been broadcasting in Huntsville, the location of the G8 meetings. In this interview she speaks about the various projects undertaken during the week, and some of the other organizing taking place in the area.

Wednesday marked the 3rd day of themed resistance to abolish the G8 and G20. The theme was Climate and Environmental justice and featured a toxic tour of Toronto and a people assembly on climate justice. University of Toronto students also held an action outside the Munk conference reflecting concerns of the University of Torontoâs relationship to the G20.

This episode: why was I stopped and ID'd 8 times by police in downtown Toronto yesterday while putting up posters like I have for years? Why did they choose to let me continue? How do they feel about all the G20 hype and paranoia? How do the people of Toronto feel? Is it worth it to be taught to think we're somehow special on the "world stage" in a world run by psychopaths who "temporarily" suspend our rights? How often will this happen in the future? Can we talk about how to make sure it won't?
