Pop You!
March 22, 2010, 6:41 a.m.
If you're a regular listener of The Monday Morning Breakfast Blend, first of all,God Bless You! Secondly, you how I loves me my power pop! There is quite possibly NOTHING that makes me giddier (a shameful sight,I'll concede!).
So I was thrilled when I got the opportunity to interview power pop master craftsman John Davis, formerly of D.C. stalwarts,Q and not U,and more recently Georgie James, who, again,if you're a regular listener of The Monday Morning Breakfast Blend, know had my #1 album of 2007 AND my #1 song of 2007 as well with "Cheap Champagne".
He was in town a few weeks back playing a show at Gallery 5 with his current band,Title Tracks (great show, btw) and I was lucky enough to steal a half hour of his time and have him come up to the station and talk to me (and he was gracious enough to oblige) about growing up in D.C.,his past projects, his current band, and some of his favorite artists, among other things.
I'll be playing excerpts from that interview throughout the show this morning along with selections from Q and not U,Georgie James, and of course, the new Title Tracks cd. I'll also throw in selections from Mr.Davis' own Best of '09 playlist peppered with some power pop bonn motts of my own.
Oh yes,Power Pop ABOUNDS this morning!
Hard Times, Health Care and Hustling 4 Your Future
March 22, 2010, 5:24 a.m.
This episode: how many people still want to believe in "Hope" and "Change" after a year of failure from President Obama? Will people believe the new "universal" health care package is "good" without looking into the details? Why don't we care about the details of the deals that determine our future? When will people have "faith" in their "plans" to deal with this? How do we come up with them? Why do the people who run the world -- who clearly hate people -- want us having so much fun? :-)

HealthCare and Republican Intransigence -- part 2
March 21, 2010, 7:33 p.m.
Yesterday, the Health Insurance Reform act passed the House of Representatives in the face of fierce opposition by the Republican party. Far from being unusual this Republican vote follows a consistent pattern on healthcare reform votes since the beginning of the 20th century.
But there was at least once in the last century in which the Republican party took the initiative and proposed a method of providing Healthcare for Americans. This program was set forth by Richard M. Nixon and it required employers to provide minimal levels of health insurance to employees, using private insurance firms as the main vehicle. This privatized program is the one in need of reform.

"The Poison Conspiracy" an Investigative Reporter's Expose of the Making of a Cancer Epidemic in the USA
March 20, 2010, 10:45 a.m.
Karl Grossman wrote âThe Poison Conspiracyâ to expose the deliberate acts of the Reagan Administration to place full control of federal regulatory agencies including the US Environmental Protection Agency, the US Food and Drug Administration, and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration in the hands of the corporations that these government agencies were charged with regulating. This book was published in 1983. The Republican administrations which followed the Reagan era took similar actions. We have a government that is totally controlled by corporate interests. The chemical companies, the manufacturing companies, the food production companies, the financial corporations... call the shots in Washington and as a result the environment becomes ever more polluted and the diseases caused by pollution, including cancer, mental illness and Alzheimer's Disease take a heavier toll on Americans.
Karl advocates for education of the American pubic concerning these critical matters of decision-making at the top levels of government and the disease burden that is imposed by giving all of the power invested in the federal government to those who are ruled by greed and whose only interest is to ruthlessly exploit the Mother Earth and the children of the Earth. The most important thing we can do right now is educate large numbers of people about the corporate control that shapes every part of our existence and then use the power of these large numbers to take all of the power away from the corporate overlords.

#107 -- Airport Security and Related Scams
March 19, 2010, 8:06 p.m.
20 years ago airports & airliners were scenes of Orwellian mind-control (GEORGE CARLIN). And those were the good old days! After 9/11, the police state--fortunately run by the Keystone Kops--seized our airports (JIMMY TINGLE, MICHAEL PARENTI). As we lead up to the preposterous Underwear Bomber scam (I, JIM HIGHTOWER & JON STEWART), we hear from student NICHOLAS GEORGE, busted for trying to carry "learn Arabic" flash cards onto a plane. It is to laugh--and the show does (between screams).
