WINGS #23-22 Unlearning Patriarchy
Sept. 19, 2022, 8:26 p.m.
Professor Claudia von Werlhof's many books include The Failure of Modern Civilization and the Struggle for a Deep Alternative: On Critical Theory of Patriarchy as a New Paradigm. In this interview, she describes current economics, science and politics as belonging to a centuries-old patriarchal dream to replace dependency on women and nature with an artificial world. This fantasy underlies both gnostic religion and the thirst for war. The only solution, she says, is that "Men have to realize that life is here, they are here, they belong to life."
Von Werlhof has also written harsh criticisms and warnings about geo-engineering,
Banned Books
Sept. 19, 2022, 4:03 p.m.
This time on The Children's Hour, our summer interns Julia Wolfe and Sophie Anderson-Haynie have co-written and produced a program about Banned Books. They teach us what that means, the history of banning books, and how it's even possible in the era of digital reading.
We also learn about something that's being talked about a lot in the news, and is being used as a reason to ban books: Critical Race Theory. Julia and Sophie read us a book that is being banned in some schools because a few people think it teaches this college-level theory by telling the story the real-life Ruby Bridges. Listeners can decide for themselves.
Banned Books Week is celebrated every year the last full week of September. This year, that's September 18 - 24, 2022.
AIPAC funding run wild: Take-Aways from the 2022 Democratic Party Primaries
Sept. 19, 2022, 3:48 p.m.
We are getting a lot of information about the funding of election candidates now that the Primary Election season is winding down and financial reports are filed. Because of the urgency of this election, unprecedented amounts of money are being poured into the primary process, much of it dark money that comes with a cost. One of the major sources of candidates' campaign money is the America Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), which is pouring huge amounts of funding into candidates based on only one issue: total support of Israel. It is supporting, among others, proven Insurrectionists, white supremacists, and MAGA members…if they are willing to pledge allegiance to Israel. If you are a candidate running against a critic of Israel like Rashida Tlaib or Ilhan Omar, expect boatloads of funding to support your campaign.
Today we hear a forum focusing on an analysis of the actual funding of several primaries which have just taken place, and the strategies used to defeat so called “enemies of Israel," of which there are a growing number. Sponsored by The Foundation for Middle East Peace, the forum features Rania Batrice, Lara Friedman, and Dr Yousef Munnayyer.

White-Washed Out of History: Reviving the Legacy of Black Radical Trade Unionists to Educate, Agitate, & Organize for Power Workers Movements Today
with
William P. Jones, is prof. of history at the University of Minnesota, president of the Labor and Working Class History Association and author of the award-winning The March on Washington: Jobs, Freedom, and the Forgotten History of Civil Rights. Jones discusses Black radical labor organizations and the great trade unionist A. Philip Randolph, who first called for a march on Washington in 1941 to press for equal opportunity in employment.. Randolph would call for an end to segregation and a living wage for every American. His vision of equality in race matters was inextricably linked with the shaping an economic system where Black workers and white workers would reap the fruits of their labors. His economic and civil rights demands stimulated a movement of sustained grassroots organizing, linked locally to women's groups, unions, and faith-based organizations across the country and broaden the civil rights movement it propelled
