Speakers in this episode include Jamie Kneen of MiningWatch Canada, Phyllia Ngoatje of Mining Affected Communities United in Action (MACUA) and Yves Engler, a researcher and author . Amira Hass, the only Jewish Israeli journalist to have lived among the Palestinians in Gaza and Ramallah since 1993

July 7, 2022, 6:46 p.m.
Journalist/author Hass insists that covering Palestine from Palestine is as necessary as covering Britain from London, and France from Paris. Her reports for the Israeli daily Ha’aretz, which she says "cannot be objective, just as any reporting about wrong-doing cannot be objective," have won her enemies in all camps. Forced by Hamas to leave Gaza earlier than planned, in 2008, she was detained in Israel twice for entering Gaza without a permit and staying in an "enemy entity." (Replay from 3/27/22, this time with 131 excess hesitations removed, for clarity.)

Sonic Café #295/It’s A Time Machine

July 7, 2022, 3:52 p.m.
Sonic Café, I Want More, yeah don’t we all, that’s Chumbawamba from 1997’s Tubthumper album. So hey welcome to the radio program that transports you through time. This is episode 295, I’m Scott Clark, that guy pulling the levers behind the curtain, inviting you to bounce through time with us as we explore this delusion of our own invention. So ahh yeah. This time the Sonic Café leaps across time, presenting a music mix transported from the last 50 years or so. Listen for Kimbra, The Mighty Mighty BossToneS, Asia, David & David, the amazing Pharoah Sanders and of course many more. We’ll also check in with Astrophysicist Neil DeGrasse Tyson and the original starship captain William Shatner for a spirited debate about the Space Time Continuum. Then in second half of the show, listen for Finnish comedian Ismo Mikael Leikola. Ismo shares the story about that time he flew to New Zealand and lost an entire day somewhere along the way. All that and probably some other neat stuff too, from our little time machine located at the edge of the space time continuum, way out here in the Pacific Northwest. From 2004 here’s the Organic Grooves. As always, we’re the Sonic Café.

TBR 220708 - Drums of War*

July 7, 2022, 7:36 a.m.
This week’s radio show features yet more normalized insanity! (It’s normal now!) Next — realizing that every silver lining is always attached to a dark cloud — we point out some of the potential downsides to a very awesome upside. Then we describe how the Machine neuters opposition movements — and for the feature this week, we tremble at the sound of the drums of war. High-voltage perfidy perennially on parade. This must be the Thunderbolt.

Women for Peace in Canada - Demands for Ukraine: Stop the Weapons, Stop the War, and Stop NATO

July 6, 2022, 2:44 a.m.
There is a marked difference between the peace movements in Canada and the US. Canadian Voice of Women for Peace, and the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, Canada, are campaigning for an end to the War in Ukraine, and for an end to weapons shipments. They also demand that Canada withdraw from NATO. Coinciding with the NATO summit in Madrid, at the end of June 2022, there were more than a dozen protests against NATO held from coast-to-coast in Canada. Bruce Gagnon is the coordinator and co-founder of the Global Network Against Weapons & Nuclear Power in Space. He invited Tamara Lorincz for a conversation on her decade long opposition to NATO, her recent ‘interrupting’ of Ukraine President Zelensky’s live talk to university students in Canada where he urged them to push their government to send more weapons to the war front. Bruce Gagnon also asked her about NATO’s new mission to build a ‘global NATO’ with plans to move into Latin America, Middle East and Asia-Pacific. And Tamara Lorincz comments on NATO’s attempt to ‘greenwash’ their massive carbon bootprint. Tamara Lorincz is a member of Canadian Voice of Women for Peace, and of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom Canada. She also is a Member of the Advisory Board of World BEYOND War, and a PhD candidate in Global Governance at the School for International Affairs. You can find this conversation on YouTube under the title: Canadian Tamara Lorincz on Opposition to NATO. And please visit the website of the Global Network Against Weapons & Nuclear Power in Space - under space4peace.org DATE July 1, 2022
