Emilyâs brain is a DJ⦠ahh that doesnât take requests. Amira Hass, the only Jewish Israeli journalist to have lived among the Palestinians in Gaza and Ramallah since 1993
March 30, 2022, 7:03 p.m.
Hass insists that covering Palestine from Palestine is as necessary as covering Britain from London, and France from Paris. Her reports for the Israeli daily Haâaretz, which she says "cannot be objective, just as any reporting about wrong-doing cannot be objective," have won her enemies in all camps. Forced by Hamas to leave Gaza earlier than planned, in 2008, she was detained in Israel twice for entering Gaza without a permit and staying in an "enemy entity."

Joanna Macy Remembers Thich Nhat Hanh
March 29, 2022, 9:14 p.m.
Thich Nhat Hanh was a Vietnamese monk, peace activist, poet, author, teacher and an inspiration for engaged Buddhism. Called Thay for short, Thich Nhat Hanh was exiled from Vietnam in 1966 after expressing opposition to the war. A year later Martin Luther King nominated him for a Nobel Peace Prize. After a 39-year exile, Thay was permitted to visit Vietnam in 2005. He died on January 22, 2022.
Joanna Macy has lived in the SF Bay area for much of her life. While I was living in the area as I never missed a chance to hear her and talk to her. What intrigued me most were her anti nuclear campaigns - her many ways to inspire peace and her early recognition about the climate crisis and motivation to protect the living world - all animated by her practice of love and engaged Buddhism.
