Alex Carey: Corporations and Propaganda, Part TWO of TWO

Jan. 3, 2022, 2:24 p.m.
This segment covers the little known role of the US Chamber of Commerce in the McCarthy witch hunts of post WWII. Carey also shows how the continued campaign against "Big Government" plays an important role in bringing Reagan to power. Also mentioned the famous secret memo by Lewis Powell, later Supreme Court Justice, that set in motion what Bill Moyers today calls "the revolt of the rich." Alex Carey said that the people of the US have been subjected to an unparalleled, expensive, 3/4 century long propaganda effort designed to expand corporate rights by undermining democracy and destroying the unions. Carey’s unique view of US history goes back to World War I and ends with the Reagan era. Alex Carey: Taking the Risk out of Democracy, Corporate Propaganda VS Freedom and Liberty, with a foreword by Noam Chomsky, was published by the University of Illinois Press in 1995.  Produced in 1988

How Peng Shuai exposed the WTA

Jan. 2, 2022, 8:50 p.m.
There has been a new development in the U.S. campaign to try to undermine the Beijing Olympics. Peng Shaui gave an interview to a Singapore newspaper, in which she sent a public message to the WTA: 1) She reaffirmed that she had never said she was sexually assaulted 2) She rejected WTA boss Simon's recommendation for surveillance of her 3) She reaffirmed that her previous e-mail was written by her, of her own free will, and reflected her own views. 4) Contrary to the Guardian, she didn't retract a claim of sexual assault. She reaffirms that she had never claimed she was sexually assaulted. Contrast the treatment of Peng Shuai by the Western media with its treatment of the "Two Michaels." Chinese Ambassador to Canada Cong pointed out on December 10 that the "Two Michaels" had signed confessions that they had violated Chinese national security laws as part of the process of return to Canada. While the Western media relentlessly pursued Peng, they have studiously avoided pursuing neither the 2 Michaels, nor the Canadian government to determine its views on Ambassador Cong's claim. Clearly, the Western media has determined in advance of its journalism that China (like Russian and Iran) are BAD, and our media's job therefore is to harass Chinese sports figures and officials. All-the-while giving Western figures an easy ride.

The Progressive Breakthrough in Chile

Jan. 2, 2022, 8:01 p.m.
Alejandro Morales tells Phil about the "social explosion" of young people of 2019 in Chile in reaction to the policies of the Conservative President. Despite voter suppression efforts by the Conservative coalition, including the shutting down of private transport companies, the left-wing candidate Gabriel Boric won by more than 10%. Phil calls the vote a complete reversal of the US-led coup by Pinochet in 1973 after which 1000s of leftists were jailed and killed, the constitution changed, and the inhuman economic policies of Milton Friedman (privatization, neo-liberalism) were enforced. A new progressive constitution is already being written by the Constituent Assembly composed equally of men and women to deal with hot issues in Chile, such as pensions. Nicaragua, Mexico, Bolivia, Ecuador, Venezuela have all recently elected progressive governments. It is a social movement sweeping Latin America.
