Adam Sobel: A Climate Science Midlife Crisis

March 15, 2022, 4:48 p.m.
Imagine you go to graduate school for a bunch of years, conscientiously studying the nuanced interactions of the variables that underlie the globe's climate. Then, as you publish findings that demonstrate what's happening to our planet, you hear your work debated and unheeded by legislators across the country who couldn't tell a stratospheric temperature profile from a hole in the wall. This week on Sea Change Radio we speak with climate scientist, Adam Sobel, a professor at Columbia University, to get a glimpse into the mind of a climate scientist. We learn about the difference between climate adaptation and climate mitigation, talk about extreme weather events in the context of climate change, and look at ways the science community can fight back against political hemming and hawing.

Gideon Levy's keynote address at the annual conference of the Washington Report on Middle East Affairs

March 15, 2022, 8:56 a.m.
Levy is a respected award-winning Israeli journalist and author. In this address, he laments the hypocrisy of those who claim Israeli values relating to Ukraine -- versus those in Palestine. Israel claims to be "special" and therefore not bound by others' rules of war or human rights. So among the millions who are fleeing Ukraine, Israel welcomes only the Jewish. Others must pay a fee of $3000 and may stay only 30 days. So Israelis applaud the youth of Ukraine who throw so-called Molotov cocktails at Russian troops, while Palestinian miscreants who make a Molotov cocktail or even possess one are brutally beaten, horrifically imprisoned, or killed instantly. Levy goes on from there.
