Biden's America Staying on the Cold-War Path
April 23, 2021, 7:38 p.m.
On his way out of the Oval Office, US President Trump put Cuba on the list of countries sponsoring terrorism. This "terrorist" status is designed to weaken Cuba's economy.
It appears as if the Biden administration is in no hurry to lift the designation.
Biden the candidate had promised to improve relations with Cuba, but he has allowed the "terrorist" label to stand.
And, in fact, the Biden admin seems eager to ramp up hostilities against Russia over Ukraine. The US and NATO are arming, funding, and supplying intelligence to the coup government in Kiev, which has initiated military actions against the breakaway regions of Donetsk and Lukhansk, contrary to the Minsk agreements.
Ali Abunimah explores Palestinian identity in the diaspora; and ...
April 23, 2021, 2:41 p.m.
Today we feature Palestinian Journalist and author Ali Abunimah in a podcast moderated by Misbah Khan that explores Palestinian identity, specifically Ali Abunimahâs identity as a Palestinian raised in the Diaspora.
But first, from Abunimah's recent Electronic Intifada article: When AOC won an upset primary victory in June 2018, it came as a breath of fresh air for supporters of Palestinian rights. The month before she unseated a senior member of the Democratic Party, she had expressed her solidarity with unarmed Palestinians being gunned down by Israeli snipers as they protested in the besieged Gaza Strip. Her subsequent shift to the right, including her embrace of the Israel lobby and echoing of its propaganda, could be linked to reports that she may mount a primary challenge against Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. ... None of that would make AOC remarkable, but no one should mistake her for a courageous champion of human rights, especially those of Palestinians. When such a prominent member of the new progressives as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez falls victim to the Israeli lobby and begins to mouth their false narrative, it is more than disappointing, it is devastating.

From an un-caring to a caring economy #111
April 22, 2021, 10:25 a.m.
Caring for others is the highest thing anyone can do in this world. Yet our governments donât value care either in the policies they create, and they donât value it monetarily. We look at how we move from an un-caring economy to a caring economy, how womenâs unpaid work is the greatest subsidy to our so-called productive economy, and how we need to rethink âthe economic.â
Plus â we analyse President Bidenâs global minimum tax plans â who wins and who loses? Is it game over for tax havens?

Achcar & Co. Making Fools of Themselves
April 21, 2021, 8:53 p.m.
Phil interviews Diana Johnstone about an insulting letter criticizing Syria Solidarity activists and anti-imperialist researchers, which was signed by Noam Chomsky.
Johnstone slams the idea that Western so-called "humanitarian interventions" produce Western-style democracy. Rather, they produce nothing but chaos and disaster for the people of the targeted countries.
One of the letter authors, Gilbert Achcar, is of-course someone who finds "left-wing" justifications for U.S. regime-change. He gained infamy for advocating the removal of Ghadafi during the US/NATO military intervention in 2011, and supporting the NATO "no-fly zone." In the case of Syria, Johnstone observes that it has a secular government motivated by Arab nationalism, which has attracted the hostility of both the US and Israel.
The US coalition has slapped several sanctions on Syria, which are seriously harming the Syrian people. This is a humanitarian crisis that "human rights" campaigners have failed to address, or even mention. If you are not calling for an end to sanctions, you have no human rights credentials, period.

Gregory Schwartz: Bright Green Future

Do you ever look around and think that if our agricultural and transportation systems could get a little more efficient, we might just be able to slow down the rate of climate change? Well, our guest today has spent a lot of time thinking about that, and what people are calling "tactical urbanism." This week on Sea Change Radio, we speak to Gregory Schwartz, whose new book is "Bright Green Future - How Everyday Heroes are Re-Imagining the Way We Feed, Power and Build Our World." Taped before the pandemic, our conversation highlights urban planning efforts in Dallas, non-profits in Detroit, as well as other movements and innovations that are providing hope in the struggle against climate change. Schwartz also alerts us to a set of newfangled, made-up policy words like stroads and blots that may be coming soon to a neighborhood near you!
