We explore the problem with true confessions by me, an article by Erica Layne, remarks by environmentalist Lloyd Alter, and music by Chumbawamba.

New legal steps in the Paul Rusesabagina case
Dec. 23, 2020, 9:15 p.m.
Note: Loud] The latest news about Paul Rusesabagina is that his lawyers have launched a lawsuit in his adopted home state of Texas against those responsible for his unlawful extradition to Rwanda, illegal confinement, and torture.
Rusesabagina was recently illegally removed against his will from Dubai by Rwandan agents to Kigali. He was a target of dictator Paul Kagame because he spoke out publicly and wrote a book, "An Ordinary Man." His book chronicled the events of 1994 in Rwanda. He has been critical of the ruling RPF, and especially outspoken about the war crimes in the Congo.
Rusesabagina was accepted to go on tour in Burundi about his experiences at "Hotel Rwanda" in 1994. However, when the arrived in Dubai, he was spirited away onto an aircraft and flown to Kigali, blindfolded and bound by hands and feet.
Phil Taylor lauds Paul's family and friends for launching the lawsuit, and encourages the public to support Paul's legal campaign.
Andy Case - "An Aquarium for Kids"
Dec. 23, 2020, 7:36 p.m.
Have you ever wanted to look at penguins while they look at you, or crawl past giant clams, or see eye to eye with tropical sharks? Well, you can do that at Monterey Bay Aquarium, in Monterey, California. Splash Zone was an exhibit featured in the summer of 2000. It was designed for families with children from infants to age 9, but was also very fun for adults. I visited Splash Zone early in that summer and spoke with Andy Case, the special projects coordinator at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. He was on the team that created Splash Zone.
Andy Case recommends âTropical Nature,â by Adrian Forsyth & Ken Miyata.

What Could Possibly Go Wrong Coercing Arab Nations to Establish Relations with Israel?
Dec. 23, 2020, 3:59 p.m.
Today we take a long look at the Palestinian struggle within the context of Israelâs recent campaign to "normalize" relations with a myriad of corruptly ruled Arab States, none of them friends of Palestine. We feature a conversation with Grant Smith of the Washington Report on the Middle East and Asâad Abu Khalil, Professor of Political Science at California State University. As you will hear, Professor Khalil, a Palestinian raised in Lebanon, has deep roots within the Middle East and interesting observations on the politics of the region. It begins with his discussion of early involvement in the struggle for Palestinian Rights.
Sonic Cafe #218/It's a No Brainer
Dec. 23, 2020, 1:13 p.m.
Sonic Café, from his 1998 Mutations album thatâs Beck, so welcome to another hour of intelligent, eclectic music and comedy, along with little bits of pop culture, tossed in just for fun. Iâm Scott Clark and this is episode 218. This time the Sonic Café explores the gray matter between our ears. Humans, we refer to each other as everything from brilliant, to as dumb as a stump. Regardless of where you may fall on that continuum, itâs our brains, along with our opposable thumbs that have made us masters the earth, and although I seriously doubt it, perhaps masters of the universe as well, ahem. So ahh anyway, listen up for a mix of music scrambled together from 36 years including Ten Years After, Nektar, Robert Palmer, Radiohead, Pink Floyd, Nada Surf and many more. In a mix only some kind of a brain-iac could have assembled, which I guess counts us out. Ahh try not to think about that OK? Just kick back, pop on your headphones and enjoy, as we present, Itâs A No Brainer. From our little café on the coast directly into your brain, weâre the Sonic Café.

Donald Drumpf Theatre Volume 206 White House Christmas
Dec. 22, 2020, 9:54 p.m.
NOTE: Show is posted early this week for the holiday. An original radio theatre show each week, with most sounds culled from the previous week, about a fictional, theatrical presidency. Contradictions tell the story, with songs, skits, and clips from political news shows and late-night comedy routines. The definition of "radio theatre" is stretched here, with an updated Dickie Goodman and/or Richard Foreman-meets-mashup style sometimes, and a more straightforward take other weeks. Currently airing on 30 or 40 stations around the world, the network has ordered another four or five episodes. Then a new show, "Turn on the News," takes its place, in the same time slot, with a similar sound and approach, though about a fictional radio network.

Dangers from Drugs Manufactured Overseas
Dec. 22, 2020, 8:32 p.m.
In the first of this two part program we heard that nearly 80 percent of the active ingredients of all brand-name and generic drugs as well as almost all antibiotics in the U.S. are made outside of the country without any effective oversight, mostly in China and India. There is growing evidence that many of these drugs can be ineffective at best or contain toxic ingredients.
Katherine Ebanâs book: âBottle of Liesâ is the detective story - now in the hands of medical staff, FDA administrators and those who fight for disclosure and safer medicines.
This program opens with Katherine Ebanâs story of Ranbaxy, whose pills, exported into the US and across the world, actually led to the deaths of patients. Nevertheless it took years to close them down.
Dr. Harry Lever, is a cardiologist at Cleveland Clinic and a long-time and ongoing collaborator with Katherine Eban. On Jun 4, 2020, he spoke with Lisa Salberg about the safety and use of some generic drugs:
The book, Bottle of Lies, by Katherine Eban inspired many of these discussions and the investigative reporting, fact finding and reform movements.
