An Easy Listening Experience 28

Dec. 31, 2020, 6:48 a.m.
This is a semi-regular show (2 to 3 new per month) for the insanely stressed out times we live in. Gentle on My Mind is intended for non-commercial radio listeners featuring easy listening genres from the 1950's to the present. Slip into the mighty mellow with DJ Fred.

Donald Drumpf Theatre Volume 207 Martial Law

Dec. 30, 2020, 8:55 p.m.
NEW REPLACEMENT SHOW COMING SOON. An original radio theatre show each week, with most sounds culled from the previous week, about a fictional, theatrical presidency. Contradictions tell the story, with songs, skits, and clips from political news shows and late-night comedy routines. The definition of "radio theatre" is stretched here, with an updated Dickie Goodman and/or Richard Foreman-meets-mashup style sometimes, and a more straightforward take other weeks. Currently airing on 30 or 40 stations around the world, the network has ordered another three or four episodes. Then a new show, "Turn on the News," takes its place, in the same time slot, with a similar sound and approach, though about a fictional radio network.

"Wavy Gravy - You've Got to be Kidding "

Dec. 30, 2020, 7:55 p.m.
Radio Curious is a program of interviews with those we wonder about. I’ve often wondered about Woodstock of 1969. I’ve often wondered how it got going and what its ramifications were. Why does the recollection make some people puke? So, I thought I’d ask Wavy Gravy, a man with insight on the subject far beyond most other people. We discussed Woodstock and other stories in July of 2000. The books Wavy Gravy recommends are "The Laughing Sutra," by Mark Salzman, and "Angelas Ashes, A Memoir" by Frank McCourt. Originally Broadcast: July 25, 2000

Sonic Cafe #219/The Ghettos of Seattle

Dec. 30, 2020, 12:40 p.m.
Sonic Café, Alice in Chains music from 1992, so welcome to another hour of head phone friendly music, comedy and pop culture, I’m your host Scott Clark and this is episode 219. The Seattle sound, more commonly know as the grunge, originated here in the Pacific Northwest in the late 80’s and became one of the most powerful forces shaping the music of the 90’s. Though grunge may just be some marketing term, the music was an authentic movement to revive the rebellious roots, of punk and rock n’ roll. This time Sonic Café presents the ghettos of Seattle. Listen for Billy Anderson, a Seattle transplant from Georgia, as he shares his observations of the emerald city in a music mix that celebrates many of the artists whose names became synonymous with the grunge movement, including Soundgarden, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam, and of course many more, as we pay a visit to the ghettos of Seattle this time from that little café on the coast in ahh the grungy Pacific northwest, where we all wear flannel, and drink craft brew from our artisanal beer mugs, ahem we’re the Sonic Café.

When Pandemics Changed History - Richard Wolff and Ellen Brown

Dec. 29, 2020, 5:03 p.m.
Professor Richard Wolff just finished another book. The sub-title is: “When Capitalism Fails to Save Us from Pandemics or Itself." Longtime critic of the private for profit banking system, Ellen Brown, campaigns to return control of money and credit to states, cities, and communities. She invited Richard Wolff to a an interview on Zoom on December 17, 2020. The 30 minute conversation is archived on the YouTube channel of The Public Banking Institute, founded in 2011 by Ellen Brown. She is an attorney and author of 12 books, among them “Web of Debt” and “The Public Bank Solution”. Here she traces the history and evolution of the current private banking system, showing how it took the power to create money away from the public, and how the people can take that power back through public banks that operate in the public interest. Richard Wolff is Professor of Economics Emeritus at U Mass, Amherst, and a Visiting Professor at the New School University in New York City. He’s the founder of Democracy at Work and host of their nationally syndicated show Economic Update.

What's in "Stoehr" For 2021?

Dec. 29, 2020, 4:41 p.m.
As 2020 comes to a close, we are reminded of the old proverb, "It's always darkest just before the dawn." Covid deaths in the US have reached over 335,000 and ICU vacancies across the country are dangerously low; the current president is throwing a temper-tantrum and reminding us, once again, that our civic and political systems were not built in anticipation of people completely devoid of honor. On top of it all, we don't get to finish this doozy of a year with anything close to the celebration it merits. Things do seem dark. But the second part of the adage is about dawn -- something bright, warm, and hopeful on the horizon. This week on Sea Change Radio, in part 2 of our discussion with writer and political analyst John Stoehr, we try to turn the page on the Trump era, examine the Democrat/Republican divide in terms of messaging and policy, and talk about the gerontocracy that's pulling the levers of governmental power in both parties
