Herman's Radio & Record Room #11

Dec. 3, 2020, 4:45 p.m.
My dad Herman Frederick Moe was a radio & TV repairman and electrician, a country & western "cowboy singer" and rustic guitar player. He performed in the late 1930’s on live radio before he enlisted in World War II as a radio-telephone technician. This show is my homage to him. My father loved the other side of radio as well – the listening side – it kept him company during many lonesome nights in the 30’s, 40’s, 50’s & 60's. From my imagination to your ears – it’s WHFM – vintage music from mid century America. This is music that I believe he would have enjoyed.

Postal Workers Need Our Help To Prevent Their Jobs Being Killed

Dec. 3, 2020, 9:43 a.m.
Postal Workers Saved Our Election, and Now Need Our Help To Prevent Their Jobs Being Killed with Mark Dimondstein, Postal Workers President The 2020 election may be mostly over, but Trump Postmaster General Louis DeJoys plans to destroy the Postal Service arent"and the Postal Workers are leading a wide-ranging national coalition setting up Nov. 17 events to stop him. The union announced plans urging their allies to stage pro-Postal Service rallies, including virtual rallies at post offices nationwide. At stake, is DeJoys scheme, shelved due to public pressure in the months before the election, to rip out sorting machines, fire thousands of USPS workers"most of whom are unionized, people of color, female, veterans, or combinations thereof"and slow down the delivery of everything from medicines to Social Security checks. Moreover, Dimondstein says, we face the GOP-right wing plan, backed by corporate mailers, to carve up the Postal Service, sell off its profitable sections to the private sector, and leave the rest of the country to suffer. Our opponents are moving in for the kill and exploiting this pandemic with shameful cuts to services and trying to sell it off and privatize it, he stated.

Sonic Cafe #215/Become a Flat Earther in the Age of Truthiness

Dec. 3, 2020, 7:49 a.m.
Sonic Café, that’s Rare Earth from 1970 covering The Temptations. So yeah another example of an amazing thing that just happened here at the Sonic Café, so wow the place is packed, hardly enough room to squeeze through to our little booth, in the back, in the corner, in the dark but here we are. I’m Scott Clark and this is episode 215. This time the Sonic Café gives you the talking points and twisted logic you’ll need to become a flat earther in our age of truthiness, so listen for that. Oh and speaking of truthiness… comedian Sara Schaefer stops by to help us remember a time when truth was an actual thing. Speak your truth Sara, yeah… sorry got a bit carried away. Ahh, listen for Barns Courtney, The Cars, Prefab Sprout, Michael Andrews, Alabama Shakes and more, in a music mix from the last 50 years. Oh and one more thing. Listen as the Sonic Café follows a couple stoners through the store to satisfy the late night munchies. All that and more this time as the Sonic Café gives you the tools to join the flat earther movement, in the era of truthiness, from our little café on the Pacific coast… we’re the Sonic Café.

Donald Drumpf Theatre Volume 203 Failure

Dec. 2, 2020, 9:02 p.m.

Contradictions tell the story, with songs, skits, and clips from political news shows and late-night comedy routines. The definition of "radio theatre" is stretched here, with an updated Dickie Goodman and/or Richard Foreman-meets-mashup style sometimes, and a more straightforward take other weeks. Currently airing on 30 or 40 stations around the world, the network has ordered another two months of episodes. Anyone who would like to work on a production, or have their work air in this time slot, should contact info@wgxc.org.

Dr. Ken Alibek - "Soviet Germ Warfare Part 1"

Dec. 2, 2020, 8:02 p.m.
Bio-Hazard: The Chilling Story of the Largest Covert Biological Weapons Program in the World — Told From Inside by the Man Who Ran it Biological warfare is the use of weapons that cause death by disease. The largest and most sophisticated biological weapons program in the world, which cultivated and stockpiled anthrax virus, brucellosis, the plague and genetically altered strains of small pox, employed more than 6000 people at over 100 facilities in the former Soviet Union. For 15 years, ending in 1992, Dr. Ken Alibek, a doctor of medicine and a Ph.D. in microbiology, was the scientific leader of Bio-Preparat, the civilian branch of that secret biological weapons program, masquerading as a pharmaceutical company. In 1992, Dr. Alibek defected to the United States. Several years later, he wrote “Bio-Hazard,” a book detailing the development of biological weapons, the horrors of his former life and why he chose to defect. This is a two-part program with Dr. Ken Alibek, recorded in 1999. Dr. Ken Alibek recommends “Prevent,” by Richard Preston & “Vector,” by Robin Cook. Originally Broadcast: May 11, 1999

GM Returns to Oshawa — But Offers Only 2nd-Tier Jobs

Dec. 1, 2020, 5:08 p.m.
Phil interviews Tony Leah, chair of the Political Action Committee of UNIFOR local 222 at Oshawa, who recently authored an article with Rebecca Keetch, entitled "General Motors Returns to Oshawa—But Offers Only Second-Tier Jobs in a ‘Pop-Up’ Plant." Leah maintains, while it's helpful that GM is going to reopen production of pickup trucks in Oshawa, the conditions under which UNIFOR has allowed the plant to reopen leaves workers with a tiered wage system, contracted-out work, and an uncertain future. Leah was a prime mover in Green Jobs Oshawa, which pointed out that corporations have only the bottom-line in mind, and couldn't give a care about the best interests of its workers, the local community, or the environment. Green Jobs Oshawa is continuing to organize for a longer-term vision of public ownership, production for social needs, and a transition to a sustainable future, rather than dependence on the whims of corporations.

You can learn about the event here: http://hamiltoncoalitiontostopthewar.ca/2020/11/30/how-to-be-heard-on-dec-1/ Phil evaluates Niki Ashton's statement of support for the recent panel on Nov. 24. She called out Sinophobia - racism against Asian-Canadians. She stressed that Canada should be peaceful: Any country, properly-led, would recoil against "pivoting towards China" and sending warships into the South-China-Sea. Like Niki, we must say "no" to a New Cold War. At 7:45, Phil comments on the assassination of the Iranian scientist. The U.S. sending of warships into the area is a deliberate escalation and provocation.
