Episode 2020.03. The Unasked Question, What is the Governments Role in Society
Feb. 16, 2020, 5:38 p.m.
(This episode was recorded a few weeks before the Iowa Caucuses, it doesnât contain any refer to them but the content is still very apt). In all the conversations I have heard over Limited Government, Overbearing Government, Libertarianism, NeoConservatism, NeoLiberalism and a variant of other topics, seldom â if ever â have I heard any of the commentators answer the question posed in the title. I have come to believe answering this single question will unleash a force heretofore missing from our political dialogue, the force to rework and realign political ideologies. Such a realignment has happened twice before in this countries history, first in the Post-Reconstruction years and second in the Great Depression. Some argument could be made for the Progressive Era, since much of the corruption prevalent during the Post-Reconstruction years was unraveled during this time period; I decided to reject this argument though, deciding to see that eraâs unraveling as becoming hypersonic and burning with social consciousness during the FDR response to the Great Depression. While this thinking colored my commentary, it did not make it into this podcast episode (I thought you might want to know about it anyway). Enjoy!

The necessity of Kashmiri self-determination
Feb. 16, 2020, 3:19 p.m.
Phil interviews Zafar Bangash about his successful commemoration of Kashmir Solidarity Day in Mississauga this month. Zafar reiterates the significance of what has happened since August 5th, when Modi locked down the entire territory of Indian-occupied Kashmir. Modi removed the special status of Kashmir in the Indian constitution. It is a de-facto annexation.
Phil asks Zafar what Canadians could be doing to put pressure on our Federal government to live up to the statesmanship of General McNaughton at the United Nations.

Remembering Rwandan General Gratien Kabiligi and His Acquittal at UN Tribunal
Feb. 14, 2020, 8:41 p.m.
General Kabiligi was a successful and patriotic field commander. He led his forces against Paul Kagame's RPF that had invaded his country from Uganda, beginning in October 1990.
When the Arusha peace process was destroyed by the RPF attack of April 6 1994, General Kabiligi was not in the country, a circumstance that hampered the defense effort. The general was later accused of war crimes and imprisoned for years. He underwent a years-long trial, ending with his acquittal. It was many years before he was able to be with his family in Europe, despite being cleared. People who generalize about international law should review what happened to General Kabiligi.

Donald Drumpf Theatre Volume 161 After Impeachment
Feb. 12, 2020, 8:48 p.m.
An original radio theatre show each week, with most sounds culled from the previous week, about a fictional, theatrical presidency. Contradictions tell the story, with songs, skits, and clips from political news shows and late-night comedy routines. The definition of "radio theatre" is stretched here, with an updated Dickie Goodman and/or Richard Foreman-meets-mashup style sometimes, and a more straightforward take other weeks. Currently airing on 30 or 40 stations around the world, the network has ordered another 11 months of episodes. Anyone who would like to work on a production, or have their work air in this timeslot, should contact info@wgxc.org.

Leonard Garment - "Crazy Rhythm: My Journey from Brooklyn, Jazz, and Wall Street to Nixon's White House, Watergate, and Beyond ,"
Feb. 12, 2020, 6:04 p.m.
Some peopleâs memories of President Richard Nixon are negative due to his role in escalating the Vietnam War, the student demonstrations at Kent State University, and Nixonâs ultimate downfall in Watergate. But who was the man? And how could another individual get close to him? âCrazy Rhythm: My Journey from Brooklyn, Jazz, and Wall Street to Nixonâs White House, Watergate, and Beyondâ¦,â is a story written by a complex person very close to Richard Nixon. Attorney Leonard Garment was born to immigrant Jewish parents in New York in 1924. Playing music, especially saxophone jazz, he grew up in Brooklyn. As a good student and, with what he describes, âan ambition to run things,â Garment finished law school in his early twenties and began working for a major Wall Street law firm. Even though at times he characterized himself as a liberal Democrat, Garment became a close friend and law partner with Richard Nixon and later became the attorney for, and the counsel to, President Richard Nixon, during the time Nixon was embroiled in the throws of Watergate. This interview was originally broadcast in May of 1997.
Leonard Garment recommends âAmerican Pastoral,â by Philip Roth.
