Ray McGovern - RussiaGate and Julian Assange
Feb. 11, 2020, 8:33 p.m.
Ray McGovern served as a CIA analyst for 27 years, from the administration of John F. Kennedy to that of George H. W. Bush. His duties included chairing National Intelligence Estimates and preparing the Presidentâs Daily Brief to Ronald Reaganâs security advisers from 1981 to 1985.
The material for this program came with a professional challenge - would TUC radio broadcast arguments that there is no evidence that Russia interfered in the 2016 elections? Now just over a year later there is renewed attention on election interference, the role of Russia, the working of the DNC in choosing the democratic candidate - and maybe most importantly of all - the fate of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange and that of former U.S. Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning. She remains in jail to force her to testify against Assange.
In Ray McGovern's Russiagate story WikiLeaks plays a pivotal role during the 2016 US Democratic Party presidential primaries, as they received and published emails by candidate Hillary Clinton and her campaign.
Julian Assange is currently serving a prison sentence for jumping bail in the UK. He faces extradition to the US under the espionage act that could result in his imprisonment for up to 175 years.Â
Chris Hedges wrote in early February 2020: âThe publication of classified documents is not yet a crime in the United States. If Assange is extradited and convicted, it will become one. Assange is not an American citizen. WikiLeaks is not a U.S.-based publication. The extradition of Assange would â¦. cement into place a terrifying global, corporate tyranny under which borders, nationality and law mean nothing. Once such a legal precedent is set, any publication that publishes classified material, from The New York Times to an alternative website, will be prosecuted and silencedâ.
As Julian Assange is now fighting extradition to the US, Chelsea Manning has spent over a year in prison for refusing to testify against him. Extradition hearings for Julian Assange are accelerating in the UK. Ray McGovern has joined the many authors and journalists who are calling attention to Julian Assange. 17 members of the German Parliament nominated Julian Assange, Chelsea Manning and Edward Snowden for the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize.
Ray McGovern was recorded on August 4, 2018 at the Common Good Cafe in Seattle, WA.

Science Profile: Health Physicist Hattie Carwell
Feb. 11, 2020, 5:04 p.m.
Close your eyes and imagine a physicist. What does this person look like? Was it a white guy? Well, if it was, you might be guilty of reaffirming stereotypes, but you wouldnât be wrong statistically speaking. According to the American Institute of Physics, less than 1% of American physicists are women of color. This week, we sit down with one such rarity: groundbreaking physicist Hattie Carwell. She helps us understand what the specialty of health physics encompasses, talks about the museum she co-founded showcasing African Americans in science, and recounts her extraordinary story of achieving renown in the scientific community in the face of racism and sexism.

interviews author/Activist Yves Engler
Feb. 10, 2020, 10:04 a.m.
Yves Engler has been described as âCanadaâs version of Noam Chomskyâ (Georgia Straight), âone of the most important voices on the Canadian Left today
Yves Engler is a Montreal writer and political activist. In addition to ten published books, Englerâs writings have appeared in the alternative press and in mainstream publications such as The Globe and Mail, Toronto Star, Ottawa Citizen and Ecologist.
Host Sylvia Richardson interviews Yves on his newest book, âLeft, Right Marching to the Beat of Imperial Canadaâ , they speak about the need to go beyond traditional leftist political parties and left leaning groups such as labor as the left is supposed to be opposed to colonialism and at least skeptical of nationalism.
However, Left, Right shows that, for decades now, this hasnât been the case in Canada.

#623 -- Corporate Plunder & Popular Revolt, Part 1
Feb. 9, 2020, 5:42 p.m.
Journalist CHRIS HEDGES traces the rise of the Corporate State, the destruction of democracy, and the corporate plunder of society. And (in Part 2) he surveys successful examples of nonviolent popular rebellion.
This week he discusses how corporations subverted democracy in the US since 1914. And he takes us to some of America's "sacrifice zones"--areas devastated by unrestrained corporate plunder. (Continued under "Credits"...)
Walter Hixson on the history of the powerful Israeli Lobby
Feb. 9, 2020, 5:41 p.m.
The power of the Israeli lobby is manifesting itself all through American society today. It certainly has been felt locally, as Cambridge and Somerville experienced when activist groups tried diligently for months to get Israel-boycott legislation and resolutions through their City Councils only to witness a last minute blitzkrieg by the well-financed Israeli lobby that faced down both city councils. We also see the power of the Lobby in systematically flooding state legislatures all across the country, including Massachusetts, with unconstitutional anti-BDS legislation. (BDS = Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions.) And of course we see the power of the Lobby almost daily on college campuses as pro-Palestinian programs and speakers are censored and professors attacked. We need not look further than attempts by the Lobby to pressure Tufts to terminate Professor Tom Abowd.
So this week we feature Professor Walter Hixson of Akron University, who has studied the Israeli Lobby for years, speaking in Washington DC.
Hixson's most recent book is "Israel's Armor: The Israel Lobby and the First Generation of the Palestine Conflict" (2019). From Amazon's description: "A critical component of the special relationship is the pro-Israel lobby. Although the lobby has been a controversial topic in public affairs, it has been widely understudied. Israel's Armor fills a gap in the existing literature by examining the origins and early history of the Israel lobby, looking at its influence on American foreign policy, and weaving its activities into the diplomatic history of the first generation of the Palestine conflict. ..."
