#617 -- The Matrix: A Further Exploration, Part 3

Dec. 30, 2019, 12:12 p.m.
As people began seeing the elites' propaganda for what it is, new systems of social control were put into place. These included militarization of the police, new non-lethal weapons, a "prison-industrial complex," neutralizing the Bill of Rights, and CIA-supplied narcotics in the inner cities. This is Part 3 of an audio tapestry woven by Robin Upton from Unwelcome Guests' archival material. It's a fine exploration of how the forces that run the world *actually* operate in practice. (Cont'd...)

Sonic Café, that’s Peter Schilling with Major Tom, which of course you already know if you speak German that is. So welcome to another hour of headphone friendly music, comedy and pop culture, I’m your host Scott Clark and this is episode 167. This time the Sonic Café goes international, as we present a music mix from all over the world. Listen for Jean-Louis Murat, Caetano Veloso, Deep Forest, the Reminiscence Quartet, Patricia Kaas and more. We like foreign language music because it gives us the opportunity to perceive the vocal quality as another melodic voice in the band, giving the entire song a distinctively instrumental quality. We’ll also check in with comedian Jim Gaffigan. Jim’s been doing some international travel and he’s here to share his travel stories. All that plus starship captain, Jean-Luc Picard and comedian Eddie Izzard discuss how the cunning use of flags has shaped our world’s history. So dust off your passport, pack your suitcase and join us as the Sonic Café goes international from our little corner of the world, here in the Pacific Northwest, we’re the Sonic Café.

We hear Umass Professor Sut Jhally, organizer of the event, followed by Linda Sarsour, moderator, and Omar Barghouty, co-founder of the BDS campaign (via Skype). A capacity crowd was present, despite condemnation by university officials and right-wing pro-Israel pressure groups. The panel addressed mounting efforts by U.S. political leaders, right-wing lobbying groups, and college and university administrators to silence pro-Palestinian speech on American campuses and to criminalize support for BDS. Donald Drumpf Theatre Vol. 154 He Is Impeached

Dec. 25, 2019, 9:08 p.m.
An original radio theatre show each week, with most sounds culled from the previous week, about a fictional, theatrical presidency. Contradictions tell the story, with songs, skits, and clips from political news shows and late-night comedy routines. The definition of "radio theatre" is stretched here, with an updated Dickie Goodman and/or Richard Foreman-meets-mashup style sometimes, and a more straightforward take other weeks. Currently airing on 30 or 40 stations around the world, the network has ordered another 10 episodes, but with impeachment cancellation is possible at any moment. Anyone who would like to work on a production, or have their work air in this timeslot, should contact info@wgxc.org.

The Ramez Naam Plan For De-Carbonization, Pt. 1 (re-broadcast)

Dec. 24, 2019, 3:10 p.m.
Whether or not we use the name Green New Deal to describe a set of aggressive long-term policies that will help humanity in the fight against climate change, most rational people agree that the status quo is completely unacceptable. The potential of a Green New Deal is that it could pave the way for some great minds to devise concrete proposals for reducing greenhouse gases in our atmosphere. This week on Sea Change Radio, we speak with one of those great minds, Ramez Naam, a futurist and technologist who’s crafted his own sort of Green New Deal. We delve into the nuts and bolts of Naam’s proposal and the problems it’s trying to solve, as he makes the case for why we may actually see bipartisan support for such a proposal.

Michael Parenti: Theocracy VS. Democracy - ARCHIVE

Dec. 24, 2019, 2:44 p.m.
Michael Parenti says that democracy can't survive under religious rule – whatever that religion may be. Parenti's warning in this archival recording is as timely and urgently expressed as it was when this speech was first given on April 12, 1987, during the second term of the Reagan administration. This talk is also very funny. Parenti explains how God may be considered as a "founding father" and why Woody Allen calls him an underachiever. It is easy to extend this timeless analysis to the present circumstances. With roots in a working class Italian district of New York City and a Ph.D. in political science from Yale Michael Parenti has become an internationally known writer and lecturer. He is the author of twenty-three books.
