interviews author/Educator Dr David Kirkland
Aug. 3, 2020, 2:56 p.m.
David E. Kirkland is a trans-disciplinary scholar of English and urban education, who explores the intersections among urban youth culture, language and literacy, urban teacher preparation, and digital media. He analyzes culture, language, and texts, and has expertise in critical literary, ethnographic, and sociolinguistic research methods.
He has received many awards for his work, including the 2008 AERA Division G Outstanding Dissertation Award and was a 2009-10 Ford Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow and is a former fellow of NCTEâs Cultivating New Voices. Dr. Kirkland has published widely. His most recent articles include: â Black Skin, White Masksâ: Normalizing Whiteness and the Trouble with the Achievement Gapâ in urban contexts: Politics, Pluralism, and Possibilitiesâ (English Education), and âWe real cool: Examining Black males and literacyâ (Reading Research Quarterly). He is currently completing his fourth book, A Search Past Silence, to be published through Teacher College Press s Language and Literacy Series. Dr. Kirkland believes that, in their language and literacies, youth take on new meanings beginning with a voice and verb, where words when spoken or written have the power to transform the world inside-out
#648 -- John Perkins in Hartford (Part 1) (R)
Aug. 3, 2020, 1:16 p.m.
From our archives: "Economic hit-man" John Perkins tells fascinating behind-the-scenes stories of exactly how the US-based corporate empire imposes its will (& greed) on developing countries.
This week he tells how the US overthrew Iran's democratic government in 1953 ... how he himself was recruited by the NSA & trained to serve the empire ... and of his early failures to corrupt the governments of Panama & Ecuador (ca. 1980). (Time to send in the "jackals"!)

Episode 2020.08.01 & 02. Intergenerational Conflict, AOC & The Scapegoat Generation
Aug. 2, 2020, 7:41 p.m.
Class War Battlefield Podcast Episode 2020.08.01
Intergenerational Conflict
AOC Verbally Assaulted by Congressman, Generational Hatred on Display
Time to face an uncomfortable truth, the older generation â really are not into the younger generation. For those not quite old enough to understand what this means, let me break it down into simple English; the older generation does not seem to like the younger generation. I came to this conclusion many years ago and found evidence overflowing in various books I read and documentaries I watched. Using this information as a backdrop, I explain why AOCâs encounter with the older, elder statemen revealed a generational hostility which was merely suggested previously. Now because some people donât know how to not see statements as blanketed, let me say â NOT ALL BOOMERS FIT THIS MOLD â but I am starting to ponder if a majority who reside among the wealthiest class do fit the mold.
Class War Battlefield Podcast Episode 2020.08.02
Intergenerational Conflict Scapegoat Generation Chronicles
In the library, in a dusty area where very few like to visit because it requires you to think outside the ideological constructs created for this country by corporate marketeers who worked to create consumers out of citizens â see the documentary âCentury of Selfâ. In that dusty area resides books that were written to explain why things where how they were and how one might see through the mist and fog towards understanding why people act as they do when in a crowd. In a bygone era many of these books would be labeled âcrown psychologyâ books or âsocio-economicâ books or maybe even âpolitical scienceâ books; but today they just sit on the shelf marked ânon-fictionâ â for this reason they are forgettable. Digging into those books we find âScapegoat generationâ an interesting page turner which attempts to explain to the reader why the modern generation (from the 90s) is in bad shape and how their bad shape is often blamed on them. This episode is inspired by, though not based on the context in, that book.
Episode 2020.07. Financial Cliff Here We Come
Aug. 2, 2020, 7:27 p.m.
I knew this yearlong decade wouldnât pass without significant economic turmoil. Yes â yes, I call this year, 2020, a yearlong decade because I swear each month represents a full year. Before telling me Iâm crazy, really think about whatâs happened over the last six months and tell me if time doesnât seem to have a multiplier engrained into it this year? That aside, yes there is a fiscal cliff coming and we, the wonderful consumers of America are getting hosed good. How could a Senate refuse to pass much needed relief to a population in desperate straights before leaving town? How could a House pass a bill in May providing all the relief necessary for the population, only to have it die due to ideological alignments? I know the modern appetite among Progressives is to beat up Democrats no matter what they do, a sentiment I truthfully donât mind because they are a pretty horrible corporation â I mean Political Party LLC, but here the Democrats did their job and the Republicans didnât. For this reason we are heading for a terrifying economic cliff that will impact our society for at least the next 10 years (God help us if each of those ten years are as long as this one).

Herman's Radio & Record Room #7
Aug. 2, 2020, 3:37 p.m.
My dad Herman Frederick Moe was a radio repairman and electrical engineer, a country & western "cowboy singer", and rustic guitar player. He performed in the late 1930âs on live radio before he enlisted in World War II as a radio-telephone technician. This show is my homage to him.
My father was a radio engineer and electrician; yet he loved the other side of radio as well â the listening side â it kept him company during many lonesome nights in the 30âs, 40âs, 50âs & 60's.
From my imagination to your ears â itâs WHFM â vintage music from mid century America. This is music that I believe he would have enjoyed.
Court Blocks Trump's Anti-Immigrant Public Charge Rules
Aug. 2, 2020, 9:42 a.m.
Judge Puts Halt to Trumps Racist Wealth Test, the Public Charge Immigration Rule Amid Covid-19 Pandemic
with
Brittany Tomas, attorney, Center for Constitution Rights
Federal Judge George Daniels issued two nationwide injunctions temporarily blocking the Trump Administrations public charge rules after attorneys successfully argued that the COVID-19 pandemic has made the public charge rules lethal to immigrant communities by chilling the use of healthcare and other benefits.
An injunction issued against the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) prevents DHS from enforcing, applying, implementing, or treating as effective the public charge rule for any period during which there is a declared national health emergency in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. Immigrants, oftentimes serving as essential workers combating the spread of the coronavirus need not make a Sophies Choice between accessing health care, food stamps and or other public benefits or their applications for visas. Judge Daniels ruling effects the lives of millions of hardworking immigrants and their access to social services.

Canadian Parliament Follows Pompeo
July 30, 2020, 8:17 p.m.
Pompeo's speech was McCarthyite in nature, fostering a growing confrontation between the U.S. and China. China has not agreed to be a rival, nor wants a new Cold War.
However, Pompeo is in charge of Canadian foreign policy. Two days of hearings took place in the House of Commons on the Uighur issue, with a view of generating a resolution condemning China and to use it as a rationale for humanitarian intervention. Canadians should resist this.

Donald Drumpf Theatre Volume 185 Welcome to the Terrordome
July 30, 2020, 8:27 a.m.
An original radio theatre show each week, with most sounds culled from the previous week, about a fictional, theatrical presidency. Contradictions tell the story, with songs, skits, and clips from political news shows and late-night comedy routines. The definition of "radio theatre" is stretched here, with an updated Dickie Goodman and/or Richard Foreman-meets-mashup style sometimes, and a more straightforward take other weeks. Currently airing on 30 or 40 stations around the world, the network has ordered another five months of episodes. Anyone who would like to work on a production, or have their work air in this timeslot, should contact info@wgxc.org.
