Sonic Cafe #169/Tastes Great... And Less Filling!

Jan. 9, 2020, 11:02 a.m.
Sonic Café Rockin Down the Highway with the Doobie Brothers from 1972. Hey welcome, I’m Scott Clark and this is episode 169. This time the Sonic Café brings you a mix of music that tastes great… and is less filling too. That should solve that little argument. Heh. We’ll hear jazz saxophonist Stephen Riley with title track music from his El Gaucho release. Stephen plays with a soft, lyrical style that we really like and hope you do too. Also great blues from the David Bromberg Band and Fast Eddie Clarke, plus Chaz Jankel with the story of Johnny Funk, then M83, Everlast, Hall & Oates and more in an eclectic mix spanning 45 years. Oh and a big Sonic Café welcome to our newest sponsor. If you’re eager to sharpen your math skills, make sure to listen for a word from The Joe Johnson Math Learning System. All that this plus some other neat stuff too, let’s get rolling with the Alan Parsons Project, pulled directly from the vintage vinyl. Listen for all those authentic pops and crackles right here from our little café in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, we’re the Sonic Café.

Donald Drumpf Theatre Vol. 156 War?

Jan. 8, 2020, 8:22 p.m.
An original radio theatre show each week, with most sounds culled from the previous week, about a fictional, theatrical presidency. Contradictions tell the story, with songs, skits, and clips from political news shows and late-night comedy routines. The definition of "radio theatre" is stretched here, with an updated Dickie Goodman and/or Richard Foreman-meets-mashup style sometimes, and a more straightforward take other weeks. Currently airing on 30 or 40 stations around the world, the network has ordered another 10 episodes, but with impeachment cancellation is possible at any moment. Anyone who would like to work on a production, or have their work air in this timeslot, should contact info@wgxc.org.

This week on Sea Change Radio we are checking in with Bob Berwyn, an Austrian-based environmental journalist who writes for Inside Climate News and is in the midst of a three-month tour of the western United States and Mexico. The Islamic Republic has lost a General, and the United States has lost the Middle East

Jan. 6, 2020, 7 p.m.
Crescent International editor and Islamic scholar Zafar Bangash notes that the U.S. assassination last Friday, Jan 3 in Baghdad killed ten people, the most prominent of which was Iranian Lt. Gen. Qassem Soleimani, the architect of the defeat of ISIS in Iraq and Syria. Because of the treacherous nature of the assassination, it also turned almost all Mideast governments and parties, even those normally pro-USA, into enemies of the U.S. government. Importantly, the Iraqi Parliament on Jan 4 declared that all foreign military forces must eventually leave the country. This is relevant to Canadians, because the Trudeau government had stationed hundreds of troops in Iraq. Zafar observes that some Western governments and the for-profit media have termed Soleimani a 'terrorist,' a label he certainly doesn't deserve. Simultaneously, these parties studiously ignore the role of the USA and its vassal states, including Canada, in the rise of ISIS, Al Qaeda, and the MEK in the Middle East.
