Welcome Home Move Political Prisoners Janet Africa & Janine Africa

Aug. 10, 2019, 8:14 a.m.
Ona Move - we welcome home Janet Africa & Janine Africa, after 41 years, and wont rest until all our political prisoners are free at last! with . sheros Janet Africa & Janine Africa, finally returned to the beloved community, after 41 years of incarceration, for a death that actually resulted from a police campaign of terror used against Black community organizations . Carlos Africa, Move organizer . Pam Africa, Move organizer and commentary by Mumia Abu-Jamal, a political prisoner who remains imprisoned for life without parole and continues his work as a journalist from his jail cell in Pennsylvania. Prior to his wrongful conviction in 1981 Jamal was a political activist and President of the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists. Though many of us can name Mumia as our hero, there are far too many of us who have no idea who he is and what he has contributed to human history. It is a product of the states attempted eradication of all liberation movements fighting against U.S. imperialism, particularly those led by people of color, and assuredly those movements within its own borders. Such is the case with Mumia and his comrade members of the Move organization. Janet and Janine Africa were falsely accused in the death of PO James Ramp along with 7 other of their organizations members. The MOVE 9 were innocent men and women who were imprisoned in August 1978, following a massive police attack on their communal home in the Powelton Village neighborhood of Philadelphia. This was 7 years before the government, continuing campaign of terror against the group dropped an incendiary bomb on MOVE, killing 11 people, including 5 babies. It has been 41 years of unjust of imprisonment for Janet Africa & Janine Africa, but despite the hardship of being separated from family members, despite the grief over the murder of family members they remained strong, with an uncompromising commitment to their beliefs, despite all that this government has done to break them and ultimately try to eliminate the MOVE Organization. Now, Janet Africa and Janine Africa finally released from prison, due to the efforts of pressure groups across the globe are back in the beloved community. And, they recount how these mostly Black, freedom and nature loving activists of MOVE, who lived in Philadelphia in the early 1970s to early 80s"until the Philadelphia police department dropped an incendiary bomb on their house from a helicopter on May 13, 1985, killing 11 members of the organization, including 5 children and silencing their central figure, John Africa and burning down more than 60 other houses. Theyll remind us how the MOVE family members, clawed their way out of the inferno, only to be beaten back by police gunfire. The Philadelphia Police and Fire departments let the blaze continue for hours as the 11 people all perished. They will talk about how they survived 41 years behind the walls and continuing to mobilize the massive amount of public pressure to force this government to release the remainder of the MOVE 9 and Mumia Abu-Jamal and to free all political prisoners "What can YOU do to add to the pressure?

TB 190208 The Dictatorship of the Refrigerator 2X

Aug. 8, 2019, 6:47 p.m.
This week’s archive radio show started off the year 2018 with a lesson on how to be an activist! (It’s a fun job — but somebody’s gotta do it!) Then, we reveal how Americans are educated just enough to not realize how uneducated they actually are. After that, we point out that humans have an amazing ability to accept insanity as normal when insanity becomes normalized — especially since if they ever rationally faced the insanity then they would probably go insane. Next, we fulfill our duty to utterly terrify you by pointing out how with recent advances in technology, then very soon the 1% may not need us to build their world for them any longer. (And you know their usual policy toward what they consider to be ‘useless mouths’ — i.e. someone that does not produce profit for them.) Then, for the feature piece this week, we describe how David Patraeus — ex-head of the CIA — came right out and admitted that they are going to start using the ‘smart grid’ and ‘smart appliances’ to spy on us. Now your refrigerator will be spying on you right along with your phone, your computer, your car, and your alarm system, etc. There will soon be nowhere that is safe. The Thunderbolt is likely to rock your socks. Beware.

Sonic Cafe #147/Spy GUYZ! The Bronze Bond

Aug. 8, 2019, 7:27 a.m.
Sonic Café, Midnight Calling, that’s music from Naked Funk and I’m Scott Clark. Hey welcome to episode 147. This time the Sonic Café sinks again into the foggy world of Spy Guyz as we present a very special episode celebrating Roger Moore, everyone’s third favorite Bond in a thing we call the Bronze Bond. Moore's Bond differed from Ian Fleming’s original vision. Moore was always cast as a seasoned, debonair playboy who always had exactly the right a trick or gadget in hand to get out of any jam. Moore's Bond was also known for his humor and witty one-liners, unlike the cold-blooded killer of Ian Fleming’s novels. To celebrate, the Sonic Café presents Moore’s best one-liners sprinkled throughout the program. In addition we’ll present the movie trailer and theme from Live and Let die, our Bronze Bonds first outing in 1973… and later listen for the trailer and theme from Moore’s last Bond movie, 1985’s A View to a Kill. All that and of course more wrapped in spy-tingling music mix which includes the David Laflamme Band, Armando Trovajoli, U2, The Guess Who, Morcheeba and many many more. So come along for the ride as we celebrate Roger Moore, the Bronze Bond in another episode of Spy Guyz from that little café on the coast in the spectacular Pacific Northwest, we’re the Sonic Café.

Susan Abulhawa on Israel's boasts and its arms sales per capita

Aug. 7, 2019, 7:35 p.m.
This week we again have the privilege of hearing Susan Abulhawa's remarkable keynote address at the recent conference sponsored by Washington Report on Middle East Affairs. Susan is a renowned Palestinian writer and activist and founder of the organization Playgrounds for Palestine. As a speaker and promoter of the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) Movement, she is appearing at many venues. As her introducer explains, Susan first had a successful career in biomedical science, after which she became an acclaimed poet and book author, regarded as "up there with Charles Dickens." Her novel, "Mornings in Jenin," has been translated into 28 languages. Same for "The Blue Between Sky and Water." The list goes on. As you'll hear today, Susan has examined some of boasts floated by Israel's vast PR machine, for example the claim that Israel pioneered water desalinization, the claim that Israel "made the desert bloom," or the claim that Israel is environmentally responsible. All nonsense. Susan points out that historic Palestine's rainfall is equal to that in London, England, but Israel has squandered that rainfall while grabbing most of the share that rightly belongs to current Palestinians. Perhaps the most upsetting of Israel's boasts is its preeminence as an arms exporter, selling arms that are "battle-tested" on Palestinians. Unlike the others, that boast is true, and perhaps understated. After some digging, Susan was able to calculate the arms exports per capita of a variety of countries including the USA. In fact, Israel is #1 by a huge margin! Prior to Susan's keynote, we begin with a voice out of Gaza, the beloved and distinguished voice of Haidar Eid. Haidar Eid is Associate Professor of Postcolonial and Postmodern Literature at Gaza's al-Aqsa University. Here is a quote: “Today I participated in the Great March of Return with tens of thousands of Gazans. We marched on the fence of the Gaza concentration camp marking Land Day and the one-year anniversary of the March. We had the mother of all marches, sending a loud message to apartheid Israel, that we have not forgotten any of our rights. In the process we lost three young men and 316 protesters were injured, according to Gaza’s ministry of health. ..." (Slightly edited rebroadcast of the 4-7-2019 edition.)
