Donald Drumpf Theatre Vol. 152 Articles of Impeachment

Dec. 11, 2019, 8:50 p.m.
An original radio theatre show each week, with most sounds culled from the previous week, about a fictional, theatrical presidency. Contradictions tell the story, with songs, skits, and clips from political news shows and late-night comedy routines. The definition of "radio theatre" is stretched here, with an updated Dickie Goodman and/or Richard Foreman-meets-mashup style sometimes, and a more straightforward take other weeks. Currently airing on 30 or 40 stations around the world, the network has ordered another 10 episodes, but with impeachment cancellation is possible at any moment. Anyone who would like to work on a production, or have their work air in this timeslot, should contact info@wgxc.org.

Grace Carpenter Hudson & Laura Ferri - The Painter Lady

Dec. 11, 2019, 6:34 p.m.
Grace Carpenter Hudson was known as the painter-lady in her hometown of Ukiah, CA. She started her career as a painter when she was a teenager in the 1870s. By the time of her death in 1937, she had produced over 600 canvas paintings and numerous other works. Her skills focused almost exclusively on the lives and cultures of the Pomo Indians who lived in Mendocino County. Her husband, Dr. John Hudson, assisted her by making the study of native culture his life’s work, overshadowing his profession as a physician. Grace Carpenter Hudson was a shrewd businesswoman, as well as an artist of increasing renown. Most of the family income came from the sale of her artwork. I spoke with Grace Carpenter Hudson in the person of actress Laura Ferri at the Grace Carpenter Hudson museum in Ukiah, CA, during an exhibition of her work. Grace Carpenter Hudson recommends “The Age of Innocence,” by Edith Morton. Laura Ferri recommends “Stones from the River,” by Ursula Hegi. Originally Broadcast: March 5, 1997

Collapse and the Technosphere with Dmitry Orlov, ONE of TWO

Dec. 10, 2019, 5:17 p.m.
In recent research for TUC programs on climate change, the school strike movement and extinction rebellion ideas around collapse have been coming up. They may be expressed by scientists or novelists and include familiar names such as James Howard Kunstler and John Michael Greer. One person stands out - Dmitry Orlov and this is a conversation with him that was conducted by James on his Hermitix podcast on August 31, 2019. Dmitry Orlov is a Russian-American engineer and writer on subjects related to "potential economic, ecological and political decline and collapse in the United States," something he has called “permanent crisis”. When Orlov’s book: - Everything is Going According to Plan - was published in 2017 he wrote: A little over 21 years ago I determined for myself how this story is going to end, but kept my mouth shut. Then, around 2000 , I sensed a change in the wind and wrote the article “Post-Soviet Lessons for a Post-American Century” which launched my writing career. Since then I have published several books and hundreds of essays, but I stand by everything I have written since the very beginning. Everything is going according to plan. I don’t know whose plan it is, and I think that it’s a really stupid plan, but everything is going according to it anyway. I hope that knowing what the plan is will save you and those around you from a great deal of senseless aggravation. Dmitry Orlov continues to write almost weekly on his “Club Orlov” blog <http://cluborlov.blogspot.com/>

Gigi Berardi: Eating Well, Eating Wisely

Dec. 10, 2019, 4:01 p.m.
For many, along with all that good cheer, the holidays bring a bunch of food-related conundrums: what to bring to the pot luck, what to eat and not eat at the company party, what gifts to buy for our culinary-focused friends and family, and how to be ecologically responsible without compromising taste. This week on Sea Change Radio, we speak with a food expert who can help solve these holiday food puzzlers. Gigi Berardi is a professor of food studies and geography at Western Washington University. Her new book, FoodWISE lays out ways to make better decisions about what we eat. We discuss the differences between frozen and canned foods, take a look at "Big Organic," and examine how the food industry's misuse of the word "healthy" has warped its meaning.

Regime-change media can't handle the truth about Syria

Dec. 10, 2019, 10:20 a.m.
Phil Taylor and Steven Sahiounie discuss a recent interview between an Italian news agency, and Syrian President Assad. The Italian agency delayed airing the interview until it was finally axed. And it was fully obvious why. President Assad said, in the banned interview, that the European Union had been behind the proxy war on Syria from the beginning, and were therefore responsible for the wave of refugees that have swept over Europe. Sharmine Narwani reports that Twitter took down President Assad's account. Phil says that Western states, who describe Assad as a "brutal dictator" show their own lack of democracy by trying to suppress the interview. Sahiounie replies that the war on Syria is not just a military struggle - it's also a media war. Phil also asks Sahiounie about Uighurs ("East Turkistan" separatists) in Syria. Sahiounie confirms that some 15-20,000 Uighur fighters have been brought to Syria as proxies for Turkey in the attempted regime change operation in Syria. Phil points out that there is an organization recognized by the UN as terrorist that is waging an insurgency in Western China. Sahiounie says that the Uighurs in Syria are part of the same group.

Ilan Pappe faces down the opposition at the Cleveland Forum

Dec. 9, 2019, 8:32 p.m.
Today we feature Israeli historian Ilan Pappé speaking at the Cleveland Forum in Cleveland, Ohio. When it was announced that Pappé would be speaking at the Forum, the Israeli lobby went to work to discredit him, going so far as to call him “anti-semitic” and a “self-hating Jew” for the seminal work he has done to document, among other things, the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian population by the Israeli military in 1948. We are running Pappé’s full presentation, including the introduction, which speaks to the pressure the Forum was under to cancel Pappé, as well as the Q and A which he so masterfully handled in the face of this hostility.

Commentary on Syria, Hong Kong

Dec. 9, 2019, 3:53 p.m.
Phil Taylor and Phil Conlon discuss the important issue of the censoring of a recent interview with Syria's President Assad. They also reflect on Vanessa Beeley's tour of Canada. Finally, they review American interference in Hong Kong, and Canada's needless confrontation with China. They close out with a discussion of Myanmar. Western meddling has produced a "neo-colonial Disney carnival of nonsense."

Phyllis Bennis presents a historical review of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict

Dec. 8, 2019, 8:57 p.m.
Bennis minces no words in this genuinely historical review, starting BEFORE the 1917 Balfour Declaration and running to the shameful present. She points out that USA support for the formation of Israel was fueled by antisemitism, including turning away ships loaded with Jewish refugees during the Hitler era. She describes the USA's fraudulent role as mediator of the "peace process" and its disastrous effects on Palestinians' struggle to survive. Bennis is a fellow of the Institute for Policy Studies and author of numerous important books and articles. To learn more, go to https://ips-dc.org/ips-authors/phyllis-bennis/ .

Episode 2019.09. The Ten Conservative Principles and Family Values

Dec. 8, 2019, 4:07 p.m.
In today’s episode I read through Russell Kirk’s ten Conservative Principles, commenting on them as I do. You’ll be surprised to learn which ones I agree with and which ones I find woefully misleading or poorly explained (if you’ve been listening to this show for any length of time, you may not be surprised). I then delve into the idea that capitalism as currently structured can protect or nurture families by creating free market solutions to promote family expansion and growth. I argue Capitalism, especially free market Capitalism dismantles families. If you have any questions, comments or concerns please contact me at vphiamer.adis.ogaarwa@outlook.com

Commentary on international affairs

Dec. 8, 2019, 3:09 p.m.
Phil discusses various subjects, including Harry Belafonte, the election at the OFL, opposition to Canada's support for the coup in Bolivia at Durham Labour Council, and Syria's resistance to Washington's hegemony. The concept of 'humanitarian intervention' has endangered us all. The rich and powerful tell us that we have to 'do something' in Syria and other places, and we are stampeded before there is a discussion. This is especially dangerous at a time when Canada is increasingly punching outside of its weight-class. The confrontation with China is a case-in-point.

#614 -- Let Your Life Be a Friction to Stop the Machine (R)

Dec. 8, 2019, 2:46 p.m.
A video essay on America's current problems. A wide-ranging but concise critique of how America is run by a financial and corporatist elite. It's also about how our national myths (e.g., American Exceptionalism) are used to sugar-coat and justify imperial war abroad, political repression at home, and economic exploitation everywhere. Beneath the piece's Doomsday tone and style is a cogent, left-of-center critique of our current system. Plus a few words by me on the 2016 election
