Professor Rupert Read: The end of globalization and the return of localization

When Rupert Read first appeared on TUC Radio with his talk: This Civilization is Finished - So what is to be done - he drew a huge response. Here is a professor and well established intellectual who risks arrest in his association with the Extinction Rebellion climate change movement in England. XR use civil disobedience to make governments, and really everyone, declare climate change emergencies and act on them. Even in September 2019 Professor Rupert Read - in front of an academic audience at the prestigious University College London feels compelled to say: “I come here with a message many of will find hard not to resist.” But, as the urgency grows to deal with climate change, academia is changing. Rupert Read was chosen to give a prestigious lecture and he is welcomed as friend and colleague by Prof. Brad Blitz of University College London. Rupert Read is teaching Philosophy at the University of East Anglia. He is a long time Green Party politician.

Can you imagine how hard it must be for legislators to know where to focus their energies? The problems that require reform and improved public policy are vast and varied. But as this week’s guest explains, there’s really nothing more important than ensuring clean air and water. Today on Sea Change Radio, we speak with California Assemblymember Phil Ting about his efforts to promote recycling and cleaner cars. We look at the impediments to systemic change, breakdown his proposals, and talk about the amount of political capital required to advance the most fundamental components of life on earth: clean air and water.

White Helmets work with terrorists and receive Western support

Vanessa Beeley updates us on the White Helmets, following the mysterious death of its founder James Le Mesurier. Beeley goes back to the basics: Who was Le Mesurier? He was with British intelligence, previously remodeling the Kosovo Liberation Army. Already, history is being revised, as corporate media scrubs Le Mesurier's background and his founding role in the White Helmets. And there is much we aren't told today about the White Helmets. The recent OPCW revelations demonstrate that the Syrian government did not use gas warfare, which brings into question the origin of the bodies that the White Helmets paraded in front of cameras. There's lots of sleuthing and subterfuge in the WH history and funding. Their parent organization, MayDay rescue, was funded by the U.K. government. Le Mesurier was handling upwards of $200 million in funding for the White Helmets. Phil also reminds us that the White Helmets stole the name "Syria Civil Defense" from a real Syrian organization that existed on the ground. He argues that it requires a "colonized mind" to believe that Syrians needed help from the British foreign office to learn how to conduct civil defense. It also turns out that, if you talk to actual White Helmets, they admit the factionalization of their organization, reflecting the sectarian divisions in the terrorist groups that oppose the Syrian government.
