Donald Drumpf Theatre Vol. 132 This Radio Show Kills Fascists_

July 25, 2019, 7:02 a.m.
Songs from Randy Rainbow ("Suckers"), Woody Guthrie ("Old Man Trump"), The Go Back To Your Country Girls from "Late Night with Seth Meyers" ("Go Back to Your Country”), Titus Burgess with Daniel J. Watt ("Dumb As Bricks 45"), and Golden Earring ("Twilight Zone"). Clips and excerpts from Sarah Sanders; Lindsey Graham; Seth Meyers; Stephen Colbert; Jimmy Kimmel; and Charlie Chaplin in "The Great Dictator." An original radio theatre show each week, with most sounds culled from the previous week, about a fictional, theatrical presidency. Contradictions tell the story, with songs, skits, and clips from political news shows and late-night comedy routines. The definition of "radio theatre" is stretched here, with an updated Dickie Goodman and/or Richard Foreman-meets-mashup style sometimes, and a more straightforward take other weeks. Currently airing on 30 or 40 stations around the world, the network has ordered another 15 episodes, but there are threats of cancellation. Anyone who would like to work on a production, or have their work air in this timeslot, should contact info@wgxc.org.

Jonathan Harr - Toxic Water, A Book

July 23, 2019, 3:27 p.m.
A Civil Action Woburn, MA, is a small, blue-collar community just north and west of Boston. In the 1970s, some children in Woburn, MA, became sick and died from childhood leukemia. Some adults in that town developed rare forms of cancer. All of these people live very close to each other. Their illnesses were traced to two contaminated water wells that provided the water to their homes for drinking and bathing. As a result, one of the most complicated personal injury lawsuits was tried in the US Federal District Court in Boston. In this program of Radio Curious, I spoke with author Jonathan Harr, who wrote “A Civil Action,” the horrendous story of the people who became sick and the subsequent trial. Jonathan Harr recommends any books by Charles Dickens. Originally Broadcast: November 22, 1995

A Talk by Jane Anne Morris & Richard Grossman - Defying Corporations, Defining Democracy

July 23, 2019, 1 p.m.
The Rio Earth Summit of 1992, also known as the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development was the first time the world on the scale of the UN was paying attention to patterns of production — particularly the production of toxic components, or poisonous waste and radioactive chemicals. The first time that alternative sources of energy were called for to replace the use of fossil fuels, and the role of fossil fuels in climate change was acknowledged. A small group of thoughtful individuals had come together - just before the Earth Summit - and asked: Who are the most powerful players in global economics that might prevent action to stop climate change. And the members of the group, that took the name POCLAD, Project on Corporations, Law and Democracy agreed: Corporations are using the Law to subvert Democracy and have now become more powerful than nation states. Two of their most public members were Richard Grossman, who co-founded POCLAD and Jane Anne Morris. They were not just excellent writers of pamphlets and books but very popular public speakers. Both came to Seattle in 2001 and talked about ways to defy corporations and re-define democracy that had been so grotesquely subverted. Jane Anne Morris spoke first. Grossman and Morris later connected with CELDF, the Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund - and taught and developed material for their Democracy School weekend sessions. Sadly both are no longer with us, Richard Grossman died in November 2011, and Jane Anne Morris in March of 2019.
