Nancy and Hubert Murray report back on their recent trip to Palestine

April 5, 2019, 8:26 p.m.
Today our entire program is devoted to a reportback from a trip to Palestine by Nancy and Hubert Murray. They spoke recently at Boston University, along with Reverend Mariama White Hammond, whom we will hear next week along with a very rich question and answer period. Nancy Murray has traveled to Palestine-Israel some 18 times since 1988, which explains why her observations and analysis are so well credentialed. She has led several delegations, including this one, as well as the first one our host ever went on in 2001. Nancy is now retired but for 25 years she was the Education Director at the ACLU of Massachusetts. Nancy's husband Hubert is an architect who focuses on environmental concerns. He presently is engaged in a project where he is designing a kindergarten to be built at the Lagee Center in the Aida Refugee camp in Bethlehem.

Israel's War Against the Palestinians and It's Exportation of Weapons of Global Pacification

April 5, 2019, 6:12 p.m.
Israel's War Against the Palestinians and It's Exportation of Weapons of Global Pacification with Jeff Halper, is the head of the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions and a Nobel Peace Prize nominee. He is the author of War Against the People: Israel, The Palestinians and Global Pacification We the people must break the old taboo on US-Israeli relations and Washington's permanent acquiescence in Israel's illegal colonization of Arab land. We must condemn Israel's actions ' unrelenting violations of international law, continued occupation of the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Gaza, home demolitions and land confiscations. We must cry out at the treatment of Palestinians at checkpoints, the routine searches of their homes and restrictions on their movements. Americans should question the US government funds that have supported multiple hostilities and thousands of civilian casualties in Gaza, as well as the $38 billion the US government has pledged in military support to Israel. We must condemn Trumps recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital and his recognition of Israel's claim to the Golan Heights. Governments today are waging a war against the people " whether securitization against asylum seekers in Fortress Europe, counterinsurgency in Afghanistan, or the subliminal war of policing and surveillance arising everywhere. And Israels contribution to this is key: exporting the high-tech weaponry, security systems and methods of pacification designed for and tested on the residents of Gaza, confined in the worlds largest open-air prison and Occupied Territories. Jeff Halper exposes these technologies of control, which blur the lines between the military, domestic security agencies and the police, and reveals Israels pivotal role in the worldwide suppression of human rights.

The Ominous Parallels - 7

April 3, 2019, 9:54 a.m.
The axioms about the value of education in propagandizing a nation’s youth are well known, and during the Weimar years in Germany, the focus on the minds of school-aged children was never more trenchant. Then, and to a great degree now in the U.S., education has been about training and raising good lumpens dedicated only to The State. George Carlin once said that the real owners of this country--not the politicians--didn't want "a population of citizens capable of critical thinking. They want obedient workers." This segment looks at how the mass manipulation of the youth happened in pre-World War II Germany.

Sonic Cafe #131/Jazz Club: Not Your Grandfather's Big Band Show

April 3, 2019, 7:54 a.m.
Yeah man, welcome to the jazz club here in the basement at the Sonic Café. I’m your host Scott Clark and this is episode 131. This time the Sonic Café steps into the controversial world of jazz, as we present a program of powerful big band jazz. Yep big band jazz, but this is not your great, great grandfathers big band music. Nope not at all, our mix is pulled from the last 27 years. Listen for modern big band tracks from the Gordon Goodwin big phat band, gawd I love that name, also Ted Nash, McCoy Tyner, Ed Palermo, Phil Collins, Qunicy Jones and of course more. Jazz, it’s called America’s classical music. And it sure seems to be polarizing. People either love it, or hate it. Listen as the Sonic Café presents comedian Paul F. Tompkins, a guy who is most definitely in the jazz hater camp. All that and more as we welcome you to the jazz club, here in the basement at that little café on the coast, where we’ve waived our two drink minimum, tonight only for our Big Band extravaganza… we’re the Sonic Café.

Pete Seeger - Thoughts from a Troubadour: An Interview with Pete Seeger

April 2, 2019, 9:58 p.m.
This archive edition of Radio Curious was originally recorded and broadcast in January of 1992 when Radio Curious was called “Government, Politics and Ideas.” Our guest is Pete Seeger, a folk musician and a very special person in the lives of many people around the world. He brings songs of hope, peace, justice and equality wherever he goes. He was an inspiration to me when I first learned to play the 5-string banjo and when I took lessons from him, in what seems both long and ago and, just yesterday. We began our conversation when I asked him what he meant when he said “the world is in a state of uncertainty Originally Broadcast: January 20, 1992
