Collapse and the Technosphere with Dmitry Orlov, ONE of TWO

In recent research for TUC programs on climate change, the school strike movement and extinction rebellion ideas around collapse have been coming up. They may be expressed by scientists or novelists and include familiar names such as James Howard Kunstler and John Michael Greer.
One person stands out - Dmitry Orlov and this is a conversation with him that was conducted by James on his Hermitix podcast on August 31, 2019.
Dmitry Orlov is a Russian-American engineer and writer on subjects related to "potential economic, ecological and political decline and collapse in the United States," something he has called âpermanent crisisâ.
When Orlovâs book: - Everything is Going According to Plan - was published in 2017 he wrote:
A little over 21 years ago I determined for myself how this story is going to end, but kept my mouth shut. Then, around 2000 , I sensed a change in the wind and wrote the article âPost-Soviet Lessons for a Post-American Centuryâ which launched my writing career. Since then I have published several books and hundreds of essays, but I stand by everything I have written since the very beginning. Everything is going according to plan. I donât know whose plan it is, and I think that itâs a really stupid plan, but everything is going according to it anyway. I hope that knowing what the plan is will save you and those around you from a great deal of senseless aggravation.

This week on Sea Change Radio, we speak with a food expert who can help solve these holiday food puzzlers. Gigi Berardi is a professor of food studies and geography at Western Washington University. Her new book, FoodWISE lays out ways to make better decisions about what we eat. We discuss the differences between frozen and canned foods, take a look at "Big Organic," and examine how the food industry's misuse of the word "healthy" has warped its meaning.
Regime-change media can't handle the truth about Syria

Phil Taylor and Steven Sahiounie discuss a recent interview between an Italian news agency, and Syrian President Assad. The Italian agency delayed airing the interview until it was finally axed. And it was fully obvious why.
President Assad said, in the banned interview, that the European Union had been behind the proxy war on Syria from the beginning, and were therefore responsible for the wave of refugees that have swept over Europe. Sharmine Narwani reports that Twitter took down President Assad's account. Phil says that Western states, who describe Assad as a "brutal dictator" show their own lack of democracy by trying to suppress the interview. Sahiounie replies that the war on Syria is not just a military struggle - it's also a media war.
Phil also asks Sahiounie about Uighurs ("East Turkistan" separatists) in Syria. Sahiounie confirms that some 15-20,000 Uighur fighters have been brought to Syria as proxies for Turkey in the attempted regime change operation in Syria. Phil points out that there is an organization recognized by the UN as terrorist that is waging an insurgency in Western China. Sahiounie says that the Uighurs in Syria are part of the same group.

Ilan Pappe faces down the opposition at the Cleveland Forum

Today we feature Israeli historian Ilan Pappé speaking at the Cleveland Forum in Cleveland, Ohio. When it was announced that Pappé would be speaking at the Forum, the Israeli lobby went to work to discredit him, going so far as to call him âanti-semiticâ and a âself-hating Jewâ for the seminal work he has done to document, among other things, the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian population by the Israeli military in 1948. We are running Pappéâs full presentation, including the introduction, which speaks to the pressure the Forum was under to cancel Pappé, as well as the Q and A which he so masterfully handled in the face of this hostility.

Phyllis Bennis presents a historical review of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict

Bennis minces no words in this genuinely historical review, starting BEFORE the 1917 Balfour Declaration and running to the shameful present. She points out that USA support for the formation of Israel was fueled by antisemitism, including turning away ships loaded with Jewish refugees during the Hitler era. She describes the USA's fraudulent role as mediator of the "peace process" and its disastrous effects on Palestinians' struggle to survive.
