Phantasms of Freedom, Part 15
June 19, 2019, 6:49 a.m.
How well do we know the history of our nation? As for our Founders, what is fact? What is myth? While we have been told we are free, we face an increasing onslaught of laws, edicts, and proclamations governing our lives as American citizens. We have been told that âwe need to get our Constitution back.â Do we truly need to do that?
We are, during every election cycle, given a âchoice.â But is it a real choice? Or a Hobsonâs choice? Were our Founders the godlike, towering figures we were taught? Were they above reproach? Or were they human beings, subject to the same avarice, temptations and lust we all are?
What were their motivations in starting this country? Were they benign in nature, inspired to offer their fellow countrymen âlife, liberty and the pursuit of happiness?â Or were there other instincts at play?
Was the Constitution truly designed to be the bulwark of freedom? Why were the Articles of Confederation jettisoned? Who were the Anti-Federalists? Why did they get such short shrift by history? What was the worth of the Founders? Were they Everymen? Or rich elites?
The answers, when explored from an âunofficialâ vantage point, may surprise you.
Listen along as Eric the Blacksmith discusses American history with Al Aric and Theo. Current events are interspersed. Explore the nooks and crannies of suppressed information as the book âHologram of Libertyâ by Kenneth Royce is reviewed and its bibliography examined.

Soil4Climate: To Meat or Not To Meat?
June 18, 2019, 3:56 p.m.
To meat or not to meat? That is the question. Recent innovations in lab-grown meats seem to be making non-meat burgers and tacos a tastier option than they have ever been. But are these products too good to be true? And are non-meat alternatives always more ecologically responsible than actual meat? This weekâs guests on Sea Change Radio have some thoughts on the matter. We speak with the co-founders of Soil4Climate, Seth Itzkan and Karl Thidemann, about the mission of their organization. They lay out the benefits of regenerative farming and grazing practices, as well as a lifestyle that includes eating plenty of meat. They also explain why they hope companies like Impossible Foods ultimately fulfill the promise in their name, and cease to be possible.
Richard Grossman: Dismantling Corporations - Archive Part ONE of TWO
June 18, 2019, 1:21 p.m.
Ralph Nader called Richard Grossman the preeminent historian of corporations. In his writings and teaching Grossman warned us that unchecked corporate power would lead to the destruction of democracy. He said that the American revolution was fought less against the King but âagainst the crown corporations, the Hudsons Bay and East India Corporations.â And he believed that it is time to remember that fight and assert sovereignty of the people over corporations and the corporate state.
In this speech Grossman provocatively calls for dismantling âthe thousand largest corporations off the face of the earth.â Richard Grossmanâs research showed him that in the original intent of American revolutionaries corporations did not have rights, they only had privileges, and only those that we the people bestow on them. They were to be limited by a revocable charter that specified what they were allowed to do; itâs board and officers were to be fully liable for any harms the corporation did; and they initially had none of the free speech rights that go along with person-hood.
If Richard Grossman were still alive today he would be shocked to see that corporations and bankers from Exxon to Goldman Sachs, from General Dynamics to Lockheed Martin, from Wells Fargo to pipeline builder Energy Transfer, no longer are limited to purchasing influence by buying congress people one by one â but now own and run large parts of the government directly.

The Autobiography of a Face
Lucy Grealy, a victim of Ewingâs Sarcoma, beginning when was nine years old suffered from a cancer of the jaw that is 90% fatal in the first few years. In Lucyâs case, it was not fatal. Rather it brought about many intense and emotional experiences that most of us could not imagine. She had a large part of her lower jaw removed when she was about nine and half and for two and a half years had weekly chemotherapy treatments. Throughout her teenage years, she had multiple surgeries to reshape her jaw. Her book, âAutobiography of a Face,â reveals her experiences, her mistaken conflation of beauty and love, and what she learned about emotions, both her own and other peopleâs.
Lucy Grealy recommends â100 Years of Solitude,â by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

The Israeli Lobby and the First Generation of the Palestine Conflict
June 17, 2019, 8:49 p.m.
We spend a good deal of time on This Week In Palestine exploring the power of the Israeli lobby because of the significant role it plays in the manipulation of Congress, the president, the media, and therefore the American people. Walter Hixson, Professor of History at Akron University, has written a new book, "Israelâs Armor: The Israeli Lobby and the First Generation of the Palestine conflict," that traces the roots of the Israeli lobby all the way back to the birth of the Zionist movement. In today's presentation, Professor Hixson explains and discusses the book's thesis.
Before that, we quote an article by Ramzy Baroud that takes on the pending so-called "deal of the century" authored by Jared Kushner, which is supposedly soon to be released. It appears to be dead on arrival. By now, it is perfectly clear that the "deal of the century" is not a peace plan, nor was it ever intended to be, despite what its chief architect and White House adviser Jared Kushner has been claiming. It is yet another American imperial undertaking driven by the misguided notion that it is in the best interest of the American people that Israel remains the regional hegemon and is enabled to swallow the rest of the occupied Palestinian territories.
