Three seasoned journalists take a long critical look at media coverage of the Palestine-Israel struggle

June 8, 2019, 12:51 p.m.
Our presentation this morning takes a long critical look at the media coverage of the Palestine Israel struggle through the eyes of three seasoned journalist activists who have covered this story for years. First you will hear from Jim Clancy, who began covering the Palestinian struggle from Beirut when the PLO was ensconced there, and continues his coverage to this day. Second you will hear from Miko Peled, well-known as the general’s son, who grew up in Jerusalem, has enormous credibility, and continues to write critically about what his very own country is doing to the Palestinian people. Finally you will hear from Ali Abunimah, whose critical coverage appears regularly in Electronic Intifada, his respected online Chicago-based publication covering news and opinion on the Palestine-Israel conflict. This panel spoke at the Jerusalem fund and Palestine center in Washington DC last November.

Host Sylvia Richardson speaks to Ellen about how the interest on the federal reserve debt is unsustainable and how the rules are written by the big banks, the public good that could be had by changing to a public banking system . How in the past the US prospered under such a system and how populist movements across the world are demanding change from the status quo.

Will we allow Sudan's military and their allies, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to crush the peoples movement for democracy?

June 8, 2019, 8:26 a.m.
Will we allow Sudan's military and their allies, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to crush the peoples movement for democracy? with Milton Allimadi, Prof. of African History at John Jay College of Criminal Justice and founder of The Black Star News In scenes redolent of the Arab world's 2011 pro-democracy uprisings, an emboldened grass-roots protest movement had taken root in the heart of Sudan, its center, Khartoum, when the dreaded Janjaweed militia opened fire on the unarmed, pro-democracy forces who were demanding a transition to civilian rule, after the ouster of President Omar Hassan al-Bashir. The death toll from the attack on the unarmed pro-democracy camp protestors now exceeds 100, with hundreds more injured after the Janjaweed militia opened fire on them. But the peoples resolve is strong as they continue to press for a total work stoppage. Prof. Allimadi traces the evolution of the democracy forces during the thirty year rule of the al-Bashir dictatorship, examines the conflicts amongst the military forces, the implications for the further destabilization of the region and the particular role of Saudi Arabia, the United States, Russia and China, while the push for peoples power and civilian rule continues.

U.S. Peace Council Report on Visit to Venezuela

June 5, 2019, 8:44 p.m.
Bahman Azad participated in a delegation of US anti-war leaders to Venezuela who met with community leaders, President Maduro, Foreign Minister Arreaza, top economists, officials of the Health Ministry and others. He will counter the “news” that the Venezuelan people are starving, suffering from brutal repression, that the government was not democratically elected. Bahman speaks on the role of the Peace Council and its work to undermine U. S. Imperialism in the promotion of peace. He then recounts his trip, as part of a high level delegation, to investigate events in Venezuela during the time when the U.S. Government was ramping up coup efforts to force its man, Juan Guaido, to be accepted as the President of Venezuela. The New York Times and the CIA likely have access to the Constitution of Venezuela, so they would know that Guaido's claim to the contrary, but at their urging, was neither constitutional, lawful or supported by the vast majority of the Venezuelans, even those among the opposition. He arrived during the period that the national electrical grid was being sabotaged and speaks of what he learned. He corrects some misinformation, based on his travels, that was spread by the U.S. corporate press in their role as exponents of the U.S. imperial agenda. Though cruder than their predecessors, give Trump and Bolton marks for their honest statements that they want to steal the oil and mineral wealth of Venezuela, that and destroy any form of government that might preference it's peoples needs over those of corporations and the few who own them. His eyewitness accounts directly contradict the stories coming from Washington and the corporate press and show how the people are fighting to maintain their national sovereignty.
