Khaled Elgindy on his new book "Blind Spot: America and the Palestinians, from Balfour to Trump"
June 1, 2019, 5:11 p.m.
This week we take a look at the sweep of the history of the so-called peace process, which, as it is often said, is more about process than about peace. Palestinian scholar and author Khaled Elgindy, who has been in the middle of this process as a consultant to the PLO for years, has written a new book called The Blind Spot that takes a critical look at this painful process from the inside. Here he speaks to an audience at the Jerusalem Fund and Palestine Center in Washington DC about his book and where it has taken him. He is introduced by Executive Director Mohamed Mohamed.
Shaped by the pressures of American domestic politics and the special relationship with Israel, Washingtonâs distinctive âblind spotâ to Israeli power and Palestinian politics has deep historical roots, dating back to the 1917 Balfour Declaration and the British Mandate. The size of the blind spot has varied over the years and from one administration to another, but it is always present, helping to bolster Israel's intent to continue its brutal occupation and expansion and avoid any resolution in any way favorable to Palestine.

Joseph Massad explores the myth of the Jewish/democratic state and turns it on its head
May 29, 2019, 7:40 p.m.
First, Ali Abunimah puts his finger on the cause of Israel's endless bombing and shooting campaigns against the 100%-imprisoned population of Gaza, especially the nonviolent protesters near the gates: Israel is very happy to continue these murders, with the impunity granted to them by the international community. They can sell weapons to other warring countries, saying they are "battle-tested," as though shooting unarmed civilians involves a "battle" with two sides.
Then our feature: Israel continues to maintain that it is both a Jewish and democratic state while continuing to move more boldly toward apartheid, segregated state. Its latest Nation-State law is a case in point. If there ever was a question about Israelâs democratic intent, the passage of the Nation-State law should effectively end all debate on the issue. Jewish supremacy reigns at the expense of democracy. You cannot have both as the State of Israel now illustrates. This morning, Columbia University Professor, Joseph Massad explores the myth of this Jewish/democratic state and turns it on its head.

According to the Partition Plan on 1947, Jerusalem was to be a self-governing international city. Lascaris notes that in his move of the US Embassy to Jerusalem and his recognition of that city as the capital of the State of Israel, Trump has inadvertently done the world a favour - expose to the world the true face of the U.S. policy of enabling Israel's war crimes.

The Hidden Danger of Glyphosate, Part TWO of TWO
May 28, 2019, 8:52 p.m.
Don Huber is Prof. Emeritus at Purdue University. He has studied - and been critical of - Roundup and later the associated Roundup ready crops for 45 years. His academic credentials protected him from retaliation - while many of his colleagues lost their positions or had to retract their papers. Huber honors some of them in this talk.
Don Huber raised the safety issue of glyphosate in 2011 with the US Secretary of agriculture and made headlines all over the world. However his warning was ignored by the Obama administration. And the Obama EPA even raised the allowable Daily Intake (ADI) for glyphosate for humans.
Don Huber was Cereal Pathologist at the University of Idaho for 8 years before joining the Department of Botany & Plant Pathology at Purdue University in 1971. His agricultural research in the past 55 years has focused on the epidemiology and control of soil-borne plant pathogens with emphasis on microbial ecology, cultural and biological controls, nutrient-disease interactions, and pesticide-disease interactions.
TWO audio segments:
First is part of a conversation between Don Huber and Dave Murphy, founder and executive director of Food Democracy Now! They are dedicated to reforming policies relating to food, agriculture and the environment.
Second is the conclusion, from Part ONE, of the conversation between Don Huber and Uwe Alschner, publisher of the Vitalstoff Blog that focused on nutrition in the European Union.

The Ramez Naam Plan For De-Carbonization, Pt. 1
May 28, 2019, 3:23 p.m.
Whether or not we use the name Green New Deal to describe a set of aggressive long-term policies that will help humanity in the fight against climate change, most rational people agree that the status quo is completely unacceptable. The potential of a Green New Deal is that it could pave the way for some great minds to devise concrete proposals for reducing greenhouse gases in our atmosphere. This week on Sea Change Radio, we speak with one of those great minds, Ramez Naam, a futurist and technologist who's crafted his own sort of Green New Deal. We delve into the nuts and bolts of Naam's proposal and the problems it's trying to solve, as he makes the case for why we may actually see bipartisan support for such a proposal.
