Greg Palast -Who's Stealing the US Elections?

Sept. 19, 2019, 3:10 p.m.
We Dont Have a Working Democracy. So What Happened and How Do We Fix It: Hey Whose Really Been Stealing the Votes? with Greg Palast, Americas wittiest (and wickedest) muckraker. An award-winning Guardian investigative journalist, he is causing crooked election officials all over the country to shiver in their shoes as they wait for a knock on their door from the FBI " thanks to his explosive exposes. Palast, is the author of the New York Times bestsellers, Billionaires & Ballot Bandits and The Best Democracy Money Can Buy. Since the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act in 2013, the dark art of vote stealing is on steroids. Voters are being removed from rolls more aggressively " especially in the preclearance states that previously had additional protections under the VRA. As a result, last year alone, 14 million Americans were purged from voter rolls. This changes elections, because its not just anyones vote that gets stolen. Overwhelmingly, these are voters of color, young voters, and low income voters " voters who tend to vote blue. The result, we have a president and a Senate that wasnt elected democratically " and this corruption goes all the way down the ballot to your local dog catcher and sheriff. Since the Civil Rights era, since the Voting Rights Act was passed in 1965, about 16 states and jurisdictions were under special orders that if they were going to mess around with the way people voted, they had to get it precleared, pre-approved by the Justice Department, to make sure that they werent wiping out voters of color, Puerto Rican voters, etc. You remove the guts of that act " as happened in 2013, with the Supreme Court ruling on Shelby v. Holder " and now the partys started. Theyve started removing voters of color from voter rolls all over America, especially in those former preclearance states " without a review to make sure its not discriminatory, that we dont have a return to Jim Crow. As a result, last year alone, 14 million voters were purged from the voter rolls. Thats according to the Election Assistance Commission " the federal government itself. And according to Palasts investigations, most of those people are legitimate voters whove lost their right to vote This changes elections, because its not just anyones vote that gets expunged. Palast offers up Georgia as a case study; throws back into the sea of political red herrings the exaggeration of the Russians Are Coming and most strategically talks about what we can do to fix our corrupted election system

Donald Drumpf Theatre Vol. 140 Sunshine, Lollipops, and Rainbows

Sept. 19, 2019, 12:48 a.m.
"Donald Drumpf Theatre" is an original radio theatre show about a fictional, theatrical presidency, with most sounds culled from the previous week. Contradictions tell the story, with songs, skits, and clips from political news shows and late-night comedy routines. The definition of "radio theatre" is stretched here, with an updated Dickie Goodman and/or Richard Foreman-meets-mashup style sometimes, and a more straightforward take other weeks. The network has currently ordered another 15 episodes, but there are threats of cancellation. Anyone who would like to contribute to the show should contact info@wgxc.org.

Gary Coy - The Man Driving the Dog Team

Sept. 18, 2019, 11:04 a.m.
There is strong historical and anthropological evidence that dogs came across the Bering land bridge with people migrating from Siberia to Alaska. These dogs worked hard to maintain their keep; they werent pets. Instead, they chased and ran down polar bears and located seals hiding beneath the Bering ice. One of the early dog professionals in Alaska was Harry Karstens, who later became the first superintendent of Mount McKinley National Park. As a young man, he pioneered a dog sled route from Fairbanks to Valdez, and hauled mail to the Katishna mining district. Now, at Denali National Park in central Alaska, theres a breeding and training and leadership program for these sled dogs. I spoke with Gary Coy, the director of this remarkable kennel. In his office there is a large sign quoting Harry Karstens. It says: A man driving a dog team is the biggest dog himself. Amid the noise and the chatter of the dog kennels in Denali Park, I asked Gary to explain what that sign means and to tell us a little about this wonderful project. Gary Coy recommends A Dog-Puncher on the Yukon, by Arthur Walden. Originally Broadcast: August 28, 1996

A longtime San Francisco/Bay Area resident - she had just celebrated her 90th birthday. The question, that the participants at the Commonweal event had come to explore, was: Is resilience a possible response in the face of climate change and civilizational collapse. And what might resilience look like. Joanna Macy gave a personal and movingly psychological/philosophical talk, led a brief exercise in Open Questioning and closed with generous credits to writers and their ideas that are helpful in navigating and intervening in the collapsing civilization around us.

The Ominous Parallels - Final Part

Sept. 17, 2019, 6:34 p.m.
For all the blather about our democracy, the Constitution, Bill of Rights, we have slipped into statism by calling it something else. You can call the coming Brave New World the New World Order, global communism, socialism, fascism--it makes no difference--the world is headed irrevocably toward totalitarianism. We supposedly vanquished the Third Reich, but like a demonic spirit exorcised from its former host that needs to invest another, the Nazi ethos found a new home here and is driving us toward our orchestrated end. It can't happen here? It's happening here.
