Mystery History Theater - 10

April 14, 2019, 9:54 a.m.
After the dirty deed, Booth bolts D.C. with Ed Henson (Hynson) only minutes behind. They join up in the Maryland countryside. David Herold, who was not in D.C. during the assassination, is picked up hungover at his home in Maryland on suspicion. A day later, Herold is in the custody of a posse of National Detective Police officers using him as bait to find other conspirators. The posse does land one: James Boyd, the one who was supposed to have kidnapped Lincoln. That night Herold and Boyd escape the posse and head for Virginia. From this moment on, two pairs of fugitives are on the loose in Lower Maryland. Booth and Henson and Boyd and Herold had hoped to hitch a ride on one of two ships—Booth to the Indian Queen in the Patuxent and Boyd to the Indian Prince in Nanjemoy Creek, an eastern inlet off the Potomac River. Both vessels had been conscripted to transport the kidnappers and possibly Lincoln. But the ship captains, waiting longer than they should have, know something is amiss and take their ships into Chesapeake Bay, leaving all to fend for themselves. Not very far in front of Boyd and Herold, Booth and Henson—without a captive Lincoln—change plans and hunker down near Pope’s Creek to stage a crossing of the Potomac. Boyd and Herold travel farther west to Nanjemoy Creek to prepare for their crossing. Both pairs take crude ferries across the Potomac and the Rappahannock rivers. But not long after the second crossing, both pairs, unaware of each other’s presence and proximity, make decisions that will bring death to one and freedom to the other.

Phantasms of Freedom, Part 10

April 14, 2019, 7:06 a.m.
How well do we know the history of our nation? As for our Founders, what is fact? What is myth? While we have been told we are free, we face an increasing onslaught of laws, edicts, and proclamations governing our lives as American citizens. We have been told that “we need to get our Constitution back.” Do we truly need to do that? We are, during every election cycle, given a “choice.” But is it a real choice? Or a Hobson’s choice? Were our Founders the godlike, towering figures we were taught? Were they above reproach? Or were they human beings, subject to the same avarice, temptations and lust we all are? What were their motivations in starting this country? Were they benign in nature, inspired to offer their fellow countrymen “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness?” Or were there other instincts at play? Was the Constitution truly designed to be the bulwark of freedom? Why were the Articles of Confederation jettisoned? Who were the Anti-Federalists? Why did they get such short shrift by history? What was the worth of the Founders? Were they Everymen? Or rich elites? The answers, when explored from an “unofficial” vantage point, may surprise you. Listen along as Eric the Blacksmith discusses American history with Al Aric and Theo. Current events are interspersed. Explore the nooks and crannies of suppressed information as the book “Hologram of Liberty” by Kenneth Royce is reviewed and its bibliography examined.

Sonic Cafe #132/Twilight Zone Classic: Time Enough at Last

April 11, 2019, 11:23 a.m.
Sonic Café. I’m Scott Clark, and this is episode 132. Time. The days, months and years slip by so quickly. We spend our irreplaceable time attending to everything, but what matters most. So what would happen, if everything were turned upside down and we finally had time to ourselves? What would that be like? This time the Sonic Café brings you Time Enough at Last, a Twilight Zone Classic that originally aired in 1959. Starring the late Burgess Meredith, as the mild mannered bank teller Henry Bemis, a guy who just wants to be left alone to read. Read anything, from soup labels, to the classics. But everyone in his life conspires against him. That is, until a nasty nuclear firestorm came along and wiped out everything and everyone accept Henry and a library packed with books. At last with all distractions are gone, Henry has time enough at last. But then, in a cruel twist of fate, it’s taken from him in an instant, when his reading glasses are smashed beyond repair, leaving Henry with the time, but no longer the means to indulge his passion. To compliment this time warn tale, the Sonic Café presents a mix of artists who each have their own take on time. Listen for Sugar Blue, Crosby, Stills, Nash, the Anderson Ponty Band, Led Zeppelin and many more. All this time, on another Twilight Zone Classic, from that little café on the coast, where we always have enough time for what matters, we’re the Sonic Café.

Eyewitness Venezuela - Report Back Tour

April 11, 2019, 9:29 a.m.
Gloria La Riva, First Vice President of the Pacific Media Workers Guild, Local 39521, just back from Venezuela, speaks about what she saw and the people she spoke with during her one month trip. There to see first hand what was happening she counters the narriative that the U.S. Government and corporate media are using to destabilize the elected Venezuelan government in their campaign to destroy Venezuelan socialism, the humane alternative to the brutality of capitalism, and to regain for private investors and corporations unrestricted access to the mineral wealth of the country. Gloria was witness to Venezuelans defending their sovereignty at the border when the U.S. weaponized "humanitarian aid" in a violent stunt to split the military about which she comments. She showed several short interviews; a few snippets of the audio are included though the interview at a public out door gym is complete. It elicits a laugh from the audience as the person flexes his muscle for the camera while declaring, though not a follower of Maduro, as a patriot he is ready to defend his country from foreign invaders. Contrary to the propaganda people are not starving. There are problems she notes but ending the U.S. instituted financial blockade, long term interference in its trade relations and sabotage of the food distribution and electrical system would allow those problems to be resolved internally. Gloria La Riva refers to several articles that can be found at the answercoalition.org web site which has up to date reporting from Venezuela.

Jeff Blankfort on Iran, Deir Yassin, Israel, NATO, Democrats

April 10, 2019, 2:21 p.m.
In an extended program, due to a missing guest, I covered a range of subjects, beginning with Trump’s responding favorably to Netanyahu’s wishes over the Pentagon and CIA’s opposition by designating Iran’s Revolutionary Guards as a “terrorist” organization, the latter being concerned about the likely endangerment of US troops in Iraq and Syria from Shia groups linked to the IRGC. I NPR for failing to report on the internal opposition to Trump’s action despite it having been on the front page of the NY Times. I will comment later that this is just the latest effort by Trump in fulfilling Netanyahu’s wish list and makes it more than likely that the Israeli PM will take advantage of Trump’s presence in the White House to follow through on his election eve promise and begin annexing Jewish settlements in the West Bank, confident that the US will veto any Security Council resolution that calls for Israel’s censuring. I note that Netanyahu selected the 71st anniversary of the massacre of the Palestinian village of Deir Yassin by Jewish terrorists and that the two terrorist gang leaders, Menachem Begin and Yitzhak Shamir would later become Israeli prime ministers. I go from there to Las Vegas where Republican Jewish mega billionaire and the Republican and Trump’s major funder is hosting another of his projects, the Republican Jewish Coalition where he meets with Trump who draws cheers from the crowed when speaking of Netanyahu as “their prime minister.” He the proudly touts all the things he has done for Israel and America’s Jews. I then refer to a Jewish Telegraphic Agency article that describes the fault lines between Republicans and Democrats over Israel and the extent of differences among the Democrat campaign field, from Beto O’Rourke, who calls Netanyahu a racist, to Amy Globuchar who is in AIPAC’s pocket. I go from her statement that she supports a “two state solution” to revea l the fact that when two states might actually have been viable, in the late 80s, it was universally opposed by the Democrats and illustrate that by describing what occurred when a measure was placed on the San Francisco ballot in 1988 that offered support for two states and the ugly, cynical response by its opponents, with money from across the country, to defeat it. Should Netanyahu annex the settlements and the odds are that he will, Trump will surely support it and the illusion of two states will finally be put to rest, leaving the Democrats politically naked, something that Trump and the Republicans would surely enjoy. I go from there to an article by Norman Solomon criticizing Barbara Lee’s crucial vote in the House Foreign Relations Committee that allowed a vote on Trump’s bloated military budget to go the floor for a vote. He included Lee’s incomprehensible response. I then mention that on my previous program I had interviewed Dr. Lee Artz about the behind the scenes role the US has been playing to destroy the Venezuelan economy and bring down its government, none of which is ever mentioned by NPR whose Ari Shapiro went to the border with Colombia to interview Venezuelans who had fled the country, were in dire conditions, setting up, what I suggested was the demand for “humanitarian intervention” by the US. (more later).
