Episode 2018.11. Rising Progressive Challenges to the Older Capitalist Order, Radicals I think not

Nov. 4, 2018, 1:42 p.m.
This weeks episode contains an introductory montage about the upcoming elections (or explaining what elections are and how they are manipulated). You’ll hear in that montage a great commercial from Reagan’s 1984 election, a brilliant Gregg Palast piece and some information on Gerrymandering. Once past the introduction prepare yourself for another introduction of sorts, as I found myself with a problem this week. Earlier in the week I came across two topics so vitally important I could wait to record a commentary about them, so I took that energy live (sort of), recording segments twice before actually recording the introduction prior to posting the new episode. The first segment discusses Cenk Ugar’s appearance in front of the National Press Club (to be fair, the introduction also touches on that topic), while the second discusses the absurdity of calling Right Wing Gunman Radicals (they’re bigots, pure and simple). In between each clip you’ll hear a great Bruce Springsteen song and an equally great Angels & Airwaves song, before I wrap the episode, saying a fond farewell for now. Thanks for your time. Peace.

Jeff Frank on The Struggle in Brazil

Nov. 3, 2018, 8:27 p.m.
Jeff Frank is the National Coordinator for the Friends of the MST (the Brazilian Landless Workers Movement) and has spent a substantial time in Brazil working with this dynamic peasant movement. He is also a National Lawyers Guild attorney and has worked with Brazilian attorneys to provide support in bringing international pressure to expose the legislative coup in Brazil. He speaks on the impeachment of Dilma Rousseff in 2016 as part of a soft parliamentary coup; the conviction of Lula and barring his running for election in order to complete the coup; and the first round of the election and what it portends for Brazil. With declining profits, due to a retracting economy and falling commodity prices, international capital wanted an end to the social programs that the Workers Party had implemented following the dictatorship, which now cut into their profit margins and they were no longer willing to support.

David Bacon, Current Immigration under Trump

Nov. 3, 2018, 5:20 p.m.
David Bacon is a photojournalist, author, political activist, and union organizer who has focused on labor issues, particularly those related to immigrant labor. He has written several books and numerous articles on the subject. His most recent book is In the Fields of the North / En los campos del norte: , David Bacon documents the experiences of some of the hardest-working and most disenfranchised laborers in the country: the farmworkers who are responsible for making California Americas breadbasket. Combining haunting photographs with the voices of migrant farmworkers. Host Sylvia Richardson speaks to David about how US foreign policies combined with regressive trade agreements have been responsible for displacing millions of people from countries like El Salvador, Haiti and Mexico, and how Trump is adding insult to injury by repealing the TPS Status (Temporary Protected Status) from people who have been living and contributing to American society for many decades. And how as citizens we must stand together and protect those most vulnerable despite who the president is.

This week's installment focuses on the CIA's Project MK-ULTRA and other deadly. secret experiments the U.S. government conducted on unwitting citizens. Experiments on children, pregnant women and their fetuses, prisoners, private psychiatric patients, and the public at large are described. (Continued under "Credits.")

Bisbee Arizona's Ethnic Cleansing of 1,300 Immigrant Mineworkers!

Nov. 2, 2018, 1:03 p.m.
Which Side Are You On: The Story of Bisbee Arizona's Ethnic Cleansing of 1,300 Immigrant Mineworkers! with Katherine Benton-Cohen, Professor of History, Institute for the Study of International Migration, Georgetown University The border town of Bisbee, Arizona is known for a few things. First, theres that massive copper mine that was turned into a tourist attraction back in the seventies. Then, theres that can-do spirit that wont let said town " or mine " die, no matter how much times change. Oh, and theres also the hundred-year-old ethnic cleansing that everyone is eager to forget, including those concerned that the atrocity might reflect badly on that damn mine, which kickstarted the event a century ago. We tell the story of Bisbees ignoble, anti-immigrant past to juxtapose it as an admonition against the advent of our anti-immigrant, anti-worker behavior today. which is recounted in Robert Greene's new film "Bisbe '17" We talk with Katherine Benton-Cohen about the 1917 labor strike against Phelps Dodge, a copper mining company based in Bisbee, Arizona, a town seven miles from the Mexican border. The labor action was cut short when 2,000 strikebreakers and hastily deputized citizens rounded up 1,300 protesters, many of them members of the radical, Industrial Workers of the World, aka The Wobblies. In this process two strikers were killed. The strikers were taken across state lines by train and dumped in the New Mexico desert with a warning to never return. The event tore apart families and created divisions in Bisbee and the surrounding county that linger to this day. One of the most harrowing anecdotes recounted here finds a sheriff's deputy arresting his own brother, a striking union member, at gunpoint in his own home.

Murder of John Hernanez

Nov. 2, 2018, 9:35 a.m.
There are multiple sustained objections by the prosecution during the defense's closing arguments. At one point, the defence attorney, Scot Courtney, is not able to play his video for the jury. Thompson's wife, Chauna, is a former Harris County Sheriff's deputy. She also faces murder charges. A jury can find Thompson guilty or not guilty of manslaughter or criminally negligent homicide. If they jury does not make a decision today they will be sequestered and could continue deliberations through the weekend.

Breaking the Blue Wave: Rigged US Elections and the new NAFTA

Nov. 2, 2018, 9:28 a.m.
On this week's Global Research News Hour radio program we investigate factors influencing the outcome of the US Mid-term elections. We first hear from lawyer, author, and editor of the online Columbia Free Press Bob Fitrakis about past and ongoing mechanisms which allow partisan operators to clandestinely manipulate the vote. We next interview broadcaster, writer and political economist Dr. Jack Rasmus about his take on the recently renegotiated NAFTA agreement, now called the USMCA, about what is actually in that agreement, and the role it might play in the November 6 election outcome.

The Anti-Federalists - Part Seventeen

Nov. 2, 2018, 8:51 a.m.
In Letter No. 17, Centinel expands upon his previous essay. He takes direct aim at the Founders scamming their fellow Americans for millions of dollars. Well-to-do elites, acting as political saviors, are speculating using public monies. Centinel displays amazing courage in this missive. He names names and levels charges. Does Centinel make another tangential reference to Alexander Hamilton, who had a powerful influence over George Washington? The Federalists are stealing supplies and property and are using their plunder to further their hold on power. Centinel calls out Federalist Francis Hopkinson as a shill for denigrating the Irish-born Anti-Federalist writer and educator, Benjamin Workman, aka Philadelphiensis. Centinel implies that Hopkinson, "The Little Fiddler," has debased himself by accepting bribes. It's an unpopular claim in today's myth-loving, hero-worshiping America: The Founders were erudite grifters who pulled every trick out of the bag to swindle their fellow citizens out of their liberties and property. Sadly, ironically, Americans have been propagandized into believing they can’t be propagandized.
