Out of the Woods - Show #425 - 6-2-18
May 24, 2018, 4:54 a.m.
This version of the program is divided into 6 segments so broadcasters who desire to use this content can insert your station info, etc. The segments vary in length.
Out of the Woods is an earthy, wires and wood, mostly acoustic program featuring some of the best new and established artists from the worlds of folk, bluegrass, singer-songwriters, alt.country, Americana, classic country, old-time, Celtic, and everything that falls in between. The show is an unpredictable mix flowing like a river between moods, often with an edge or in a melancholy minor key. On occasion, Out of the Woods features interviews and live in-studio performances with national and international touring musicians. Past guests have included artists such as Bela Fleck, Si Kahn, Brown Bird, Dana Robinson, Steve Gillette & Cindy Mangsen, Kate MacLeod, Bill Bourne, Karl Shiflett, Rachel Bissex, Darryl Purpose, Bow Thayer, Cosy Sheridan and many others. Out of the Woods grew out of Jon 'Chip' Colcord's former acoustic programs, The Song Swap and Music For The Mountain, separate folk and bluegrass programs which aired in New Hampshire during the 1990s. As a child, Colcord grew up a ravenous music fan with an ear for both rock and folk. All of these influences converge on Out of the Woods to bring you a mix which is as much on the edge as it is down home. Folk music with a rock 'n' roll soul

Ramzy Baroud on Samud in Gaza and Palestine
May 23, 2018, 11:45 a.m.
In a powerful interview while on a book tour of Australia and New Zealand for his latest work, The Last Earth, A Palestinian Story (Pluto Press), Palestinian-American Ramzy Baroud comments on Israel's latest violence on the people of Gaza and how the Israelis continue to portray themselves as victims and their unarmed victims as terrorists. In both countries, Baroud had a chance to speak to members of parliament, something that would not be possible in the Zionist controlled US. Baroud speaks of how the Zionist narrative that is predominant has been focused on dehumanizing the Palestinians, denying their identity and their history; that the Nakba was not just in 1948 but has been ongoing. In his book, The Last Earth he presents eight of their stories in the words of those who have been struggling for their freedom and maintaining their identity and humanity which is captured in the Arabic word, samud, which means steadfastness in English but which is yet more.

Episode 2018.02. Loving to Love Militarism and America's Decline in the Rearview
May 22, 2018, 9:16 p.m.
I am back for another tantalizing episode of this podcast. Yes itâs been a while, but I promise Iâve been working on the podcast revival. Inside todayâs episode I speak about Americaâs strange obsession with raising itâs âfight men and womenâ above everyone else and why it might be dangerous to that in a nation where social disorder resulting from economic crisis, is predicted by every major study you can find. I also speak about an interesting story I read about Americaâs Decline and Europeâs rising status in the world, as well as a stunning statement about America by a Pakistani official. Finally I end the podcast with a rambling, all be it cogent critique about our economic system and the need for a new vision to see our way through this crazy madness. In the critique I expose the shameful practices of Temp Services, and go over four steps taken by Big Banks to trap you in poverty and keep you in debt; honestly those four steps alone are worth the entire podcast, Iâve seen them discussed individually and sometimes with one or two placed together as cause and effect, but never together.
Abby Martin - Global Conflict and Independent Media
May 22, 2018, 8:58 p.m.
At the beginning of May 2018 the Union for Democratic Communications held a conference in Chicago on Media, Resistance, and Justice. It was attended by journalists, media producers, policy analysts, academics and activists. They want to stem the tide of misinformation and omission.
The Internet and alternative independent broadcasters have made some extraordinary contributions, but compared to the millions reached by for profit broadcasters they have only small audiences.
Abby Martin bridges both worlds - however the networks she was and is affiliated with, Russia Today - RT and teleSUR, are shunned and denigrated by the current US government and the corporate media.
Born In Oakland in 1984 Abby Martin had already started her own anti-war citizen journalism project in 2009 with the still active web site: Media Roots. Then the Occupy movement began in late 2011. Russia Today, RT, was the only TV network that had a dedicated presence in Oakland. Abby Martin became liaison for Occupy Oakland. She was invited to join the Washington DC bureau of RT, connecting with Chris Hedges who still works there. Her program: Breaking the Set ran for three years until 2015. from 2012 to 2015.
Today she is hosting The Empire Files from New York City with distribution on the satellite TV network teleSUR.
Abby Martin spoke on May 11, 2018 about her experience at RT and press freedom; reporting from Palestine and covering Venezuela. And she explained the rational for her current show "Empire Files".
