interviews Senior Lecturer Nathalia Jaramillo
May 27, 2018, 6:10 p.m.
Senior Lecturer Nathalia Jaramillo is a graduate of Harvard University and the University of California Los Angeles. She has teaching experience in the United States, as well as in Latin American universities. Dr. Jaramilloâs scholarship is concerned with understanding the social, economic and political conditions that shape the schooling experiences of marginalized communities; on generating methodologies and practices that bridge the divide between educators and communities.
We speak to her about her most recent book, Immigration and the Challenge of Education: A Social Drama Analysis in South Central Los Angeles. The interview focuses on the issue of forced migration and the socialization of education under Neoliberalism . Educationâs complicit role in legitimizing the role of colonization, capitalism and imperialism, if un-intendedly complicit.

It's about the insanity and the dangers--and the demonstrable bad health effects--of biotech tinkering with the food we eat.
Part 2 has more on the bad effects of glyphosate (Monsanto's "Roundup"). Then on to genetically modified plants that produce their own insecticide--specifically BT toxin.

Gaza: The Rhythm of Time
May 26, 2018, 9:16 p.m.
I couldnât do my show last week. In the aftermath of such an atrocity, it was too much for me to handle. Every week since the Great March of Return began in Gaza at the end of March, Iâve been naming the dead, naming the individuals shot down in cold blood by the Israeli state. If I did the show last week, I would have had to name 62 people, 62 individuals with faces, names, lives and stories to tell, and I just couldnât do it. Instead, I went to the Guelph Poetry Slam in downtown Guelph. I got up in front of everyone and performed the following poem by an Irish Republican hunger-striker who gave his life for his people in a British jail in 1981, and I did it for Palestine just as Bobby Sands himself would have wanted me to if he was still with us now. Itâs called âThe Rhythm of Timeâ.

with
Giovani Roberto, is a Puerto Rican social justice activist and organizer for the Center for Political, Educational and Cultural Development (CDPEC) based in Caguas, Puerto Rico. Roberto is a former student leader of the militant 2010-2011 mobilizations and strikes at the University of Puerto Rico and is an organizer with Centro de Apoyo Mutuo - CAM (Center of Mutual Support), Caguas, who will be discussing how its projects and others, are creating alternative solutions to meet the basic sustenance needs of the Puerto Rican people after Hurricane Maria.
and
David Galarza, is a Puerto Rican labor and community activist who has worked with many of the frontline organizations in Puerto Rico including Comedores Sociales and Casa Pueblo de Adjuntas.
Giovani Roberto explains how implementing Centro de Apoyo Mutuo ~ Caguas (CAM) principles of "ayuda mutua y esfuerzo propio" (mutual help and self-effort) is a way of creating a new, regenerative Puerto Rico. CAM principles
contrast to the neoliberal, colonial policies in Puerto Rico which seek to eliminate public services and infrastructure, and compromise natural resources for the benefit of private corporate interests. Roberto believes that the ethic of 'mutual help and self-effort' has already proven effective in creating a viable, alternative solution for the people of Puerto Rico to rejuvenate the Island.
CAM appeared 8 days after Hurricane Maria, occupying abandoned space, and began providing services such as meals, material resources, acupuncture and alternative therapies, and workshops to the public while receiving support from local community volunteers, and later from supporters outside the Island. Soon, CAMS were being organized across the Island. Currently there are 8 CAMs, some with a peoples kitchen, some with agro-ecological projects, workshops, alternative community educational projects, and acupuncture and therapeutic spaces.
Giovanni Roberto is calling upon us to offer support to the grassroots community organizing to rebuild a self-reliant Puerto Rico!
Kevin Ovenden on Israeli Pinkwashing
May 25, 2018, 10:18 p.m.
British activist Kevin Ovenden, longtime anti-war organizer for Palestinian and LGBTQ rights provides historical context to Israel's campaign to counter the BDS movement by promoting Israel as a destination for fun seeking LGBTQ community members. Contrary to the government's propaganda, Kevin speaks of the hostility that the orthodox and settler communities hold toward LGBTQs .
Supporters of the Israeli government are using that country's alleged tolerance of LGBTQ's to divert attention from its appalling human rights record verses Palestinians.
U.S. Israeli supporters front wealthy NGOs like the National LGBT Task Force in this effort, while Palestinians, both straight and LGBTQ face systemic thefts of their land, arbitrary imprisonments and wide spread tortures. Ovenden speaks about their struggle there and what we can do here. He is a currently a member of the Respect Party's leadership, and an organiser of Viva Palestina.

'One of the Most Important Weapons of Warfare Developed by a NATO country': Coloured Revolutions and the Nicaraguan Case Study
May 25, 2018, 10:30 a.m.
This weekâs Global Research News Hour examines a new and insidious stratagem for overthrowing independent governments and instituting the hegemonic will of foreign powers, most specifically the United States. F. William Engdahl, author of the recent book âManifest Destiny: Democracy as Cognitive Dissonanceâ takes a historical look supposed democracy movements from Lech Walesaâs Poland to the current Armenian revolt, inspecting where imperial powers like the US and NATO sought to capitalise on if not orchestrate these developments. Then Stephen Sefton, member of the anti-imperialist collective Tortilla Con Sal breaks down the anti-government protests in Nicaragua over the last month and explores the possibility that they represent a Ukraine style foreign sponsored coloured revolution.
