A Look at NDP Foreign Policy

Feb. 1, 2018, 8:44 p.m.
This week on Unusual Sources, Brendan and Doug discuss NDP foreign policy issues with Hamilton Mountain NDP activist Henry Evans-Tenbrinke. For many years, peace and justice activists have been advocating that the NDP take more independent and fair positions on international issues such as Israel/Palestine, Syria, Korea, Arms sale to Saudis, and Venezuela. How can Canada have an independent foreign policy while being a member of NATO? How did the NDP's long-standing policy to withdraw from NATO quietly disappear? Peace and justice activists will be pushing the NDP to adopt better independent policies during the NDP Policy Convention in February. A number of policy resolutions from the Hamilton Mountain and other Riding Associations NDP and others at the February NDP Convention.

The Thunderbolt will now be airing on Rainier Avenue Radio in Seattle! Evidently they will be airing it at different times, so you’ll need to check in with their website to see air times. https://www.rainieravenueradio.world/shows-programming This week’s show starts off by describing the latest iteration of censorship in the era of Facecrack. Then, we remember the good old days with Ronald Reagan, we describe the fed version of the ‘broken window theory’, we expose the Democrats’ latest iteration of a ‘witch hunt’ — and then we expose bit coins for their role in nearly everything else that also sucks. Thunderbolts that you need to feel in order to truly believe! (Listen at your own risk…)

A Tribute to Fred Hampton

Feb. 1, 2018, 12:14 p.m.
To mark the first day of Black History Month, Back in the USSR pays tribute to a a revolutionary, an African-American, a man who fought against racism, stood up against imperialism, and unified people – black people, white people, latino people – against their real enemies, the American ruling class. And they killed him for it. They killed him for it. He gave him life for what he believed in. I’m speaking of Fred Hampton, of the Black Panther Party, an unapologetic communist who was murdered in cold blood by the Chicago Police at the age of 21 while asleep in his own bed, on December 4th 1969, along with Chicago Black Panther leader Mark Clark. And thus these two men joined 26 other Black Panthers who were executed by the police in 1969. Even though this crime took place 49 years ago, we still see how trigger-happy American police are with black lives, and how eager they are to take down political radicals who try to mobilize people against a racist capitalist system. Tonight I want to pay tribute to this man’s life, his work, his legacy.

Uh sure…. all straight-ahead from that little café on the coast, where tour buses are always welcome. We’re the Sonic Café.

Out of the Woods - Show #409 - 2-10-18

Feb. 1, 2018, 5 a.m.
This version of the program is divided into 6 segments so broadcasters who desire to use this content can insert your station info, etc. The segments vary in length. Out of the Woods is an earthy, wires and wood, mostly acoustic program featuring some of the best new and established artists from the worlds of folk, bluegrass, singer-songwriters, alt.country, Americana, classic country, old-time, Celtic, and everything that falls in between. The show is an unpredictable mix flowing like a river between moods, often with an edge or in a melancholy minor key. On occasion, Out of the Woods features interviews and live in-studio performances with national and international touring musicians. Past guests have included artists such as Bela Fleck, Si Kahn, Brown Bird, Dana Robinson, Steve Gillette & Cindy Mangsen, Kate MacLeod, Bill Bourne, Karl Shiflett, Rachel Bissex, Darryl Purpose, Bow Thayer, Cosy Sheridan and many others. Out of the Woods grew out of Jon 'Chip' Colcord's former acoustic programs, The Song Swap and Music For The Mountain, separate folk and bluegrass programs which aired in New Hampshire during the 1990s. As a child, Colcord grew up a ravenous music fan with an ear for both rock and folk. All of these influences converge on Out of the Woods to bring you a mix which is as much on the edge as it is down home. Folk music with a rock 'n' roll soul

Some delightfully date 70s instrumentals that will make you want a "shagin wagon" and something stinky simon and garfunkel sounds from the limburger lounge.

Civilised a pensé ou le Révisionnisme de Raciste? / Civilized Thought or Racialist Revisionism?

Jan. 31, 2018, 6:37 p.m.
SUMMARY: @TheAngryindian returns in this dispatch to deconstruct the sociopolitical and ideological millstones crushing critical-thought and progressive activism in North America and its ethnic/cultural sub-divisions. Indigenist theory aside, this spoken-word assessment questions the nonsensical popular acceptance of doddery pseudoscientific beliefs and other wild conspiratorial theories based on nothing but the neoconservative desire to promote social confusion and instability. It is rarely pointed out that neo-cons work overtime using aggressive, arrogant rationalisations; deliberate misinterpretations and harridan-like spreading of flat-out falsehoods (via the internet) to justify traditional chauvinisms as well as their own petty, individual peeves and cultural anxieties. The host argues that until we decide to critique the social spaces where we happen to be by leaving them; to really see them as they are through a different context/perspective(s), our thinking will/can always be subject to unacknowledged parochialism and easily confused with a self-assured objectivity that isn’t neutral at all. EXTRAS: Political clips; socially-conscious PSA’s and an archived interview between American African broadcaster Listervelt Middleton and Dr. Cheikh Anta Diop on subjects related to Pan-Africanism, African history and his elemental theories regarding the cultural and ethnic foundations of the Mother Continent round-out this IRB programme. All this and much more on, 4WR. The official internet radio broadcast of the Aboriginal Press News Service/ANG

Palestine Solidarity Show Part 3

Jan. 31, 2018, 1:43 p.m.
Back in the USSR continues with its discussion of the Palestinian struggle for self-determination and an end to the system of Israeli colonial Apartheid in historic Palestine. I’ve previously touched on the role that the Soviet Union itself played in supporting the Palestinian liberation struggle during the Cold War years. The Soviet Union was backing progressive anti-colonial and national liberation movements throughout the Third World, notably including the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) and the African National Congress (ANC), both of which were considered terrorist organizations by the US government at the time, just as people like Nelson Mandela and Yasser Arafat were considered terrorist leaders because they wanted real self-determination for black South Africans and Palestinians respectively and were willing to work with the Soviet Union, Cuba, Libya, East Germany and other socialist states to achieve their goals in the face of Western hostility.

Palestine Solidarity Show Part 2

Jan. 31, 2018, 1:07 p.m.
Back in the USSR continues in its focus on the Palestinian people and their struggle for liberation against the Apartheid state of Israel and its US ally. In particular it focuses on the case of Palestinian teenager Ahed Tamimi, her recent arrest and detention by Israeli security forces, and the ongoing resistance of her and her family against a brutal system of control and repression.

Palestine Solidarity Show Part 1

Jan. 31, 2018, 12:37 p.m.
Back in the USSR focuses on Palestine and the Palestinian liberation struggle in the face of Israeli settler-colonialism and Apartheid. This issue was recently thrust back into center stage with the recent decision of the Trump administration to move the US embassy in Israel from Tel-Aviv to Jerusalem, thus recognizing Israel’s claim to the entire city and denying the aspirations of the Palestinians who have long sought an independent viable state with East Jerusalem as its capital. And Palestine is fighting back.
