Grant Smith on Israel's Nuclear Weapons Cover-up
June 27, 2018, 12:49 p.m.
I interviewed Grant Smith about his new article on Antiwar.com, âFour Presidents Conspired to Give $100 Billion to Israel; Secret White House Letters Buttress Ongoing US Arms Export Control Act Violations,â and his views on Adam Entous's essay in The New Yorker, âHow Trump and Three Other US Presidents Protected Israel's Worse-Kept Secret: Its Nuclear Arsenal,â in which Smith points that while the Entous article is important it leaves out the fact that the acts of the four presidents violated the US Arms Export Control Act because of 1976 amendments which prohibit the US from providing aid to any country involved in the nuclear weapons business.
He cites the letters, demanded of the presidents by Netanyahu, as an example of the power Netanyahu exerts in Washington which includes being allowed to get away with his role in smuggling nuclear triggers from the US to Israel in the 80s and his ability to get the mastermind of the affair, Israeli Arnon Milchan, a well-known Hollywood producer, a 10 year visa extension when the Obama administration had initially refused it when Milchan's espionage operations became public.
He speaks of the unsuccessful efforts to sue the government over its failure to observe the strictures of the Glenn-Symington amendment of 1976 as well as the door being closed at the Foreign Agents Registration Agency to implement Pres. Kennedy's orders that the chief Israel Lobby organization, then it was the American Zionist Council, now it's AIPAC, to register as a foreign agent and what a difference it would have made if JFK's wishes had been fulfilled.
He explains why JFK thought it was necessary to have the Lobby register because of the money that was pouring from Israel to the US which Sen. Fulbright's 1963 hearings revealed as well as the false flag incidents, like the Lavon Affair, in which Israel was embroiled.
Smith also spoke of how Israel's US âfixer,â (my term-JB) Abe Feinberg, who had bankrolled Truman's winning campaign in 1948 and was Israel's point man on the nuclear issue in the US tried to push JFK around and points out that Kennedy's objections to Israel getting nukes was serious and that he was the last president to take that position.

Jeff Blankfort:News/Op:US-Israel Prepare for Iran War
June 27, 2018, 12:42 p.m.
I begin by briefly describing Adam Entous's New Yorker article about Israeli prime minister Netanyahu forcing Trump and his three predecessors to sign a letter promising not to disclose or act against Israel's nuclear weapons program and that my guest, Grant Smith, will speak about the issue and what Entous didn't mention: that the presidents were violating US law.
I go on to recall an event in San Francisco in 1982, after Israel had invaded Lebanon where Begin's secretary and prime minister to be, Ehud Olmert admitted that Israel had nuclear missiles trained on Moscow.
I then report on three critical stories concerning the Israeli take over of US policy on Iran that the mainstream and mainstream alternative haven't touched, the first being the unprecedented secret treaty between the Israeli and US intelligence agencies targeting Iran signed last Dec. 12 and reported only in Israel, the report in a Saudi owned website from Israel that the Trump administration had agreed to deliver to Israel weapons and planes needed to attack Iran that Obama had refused to do, and finally the opening of a US air defense base in Israel announced last December in which US troops will be operating under the command of the Israeli military and the likelihood of this making the US Israel's partner in its next war, either with Hezbollah or Iran.
I go on to announce John Bolton's trip to Moscow and how it is reported in Russia and by the British and US press and conclude with an excerpt from Mehdi Hassan of the Intercept's interview with Ben Rhodes, former Obama deputy national security adviser in which he admits that the US backed ISIS.

Yanis Varoufakis: How Capitalism Works -- and How It Fails (TWO of TWO)
June 26, 2018, 1:13 p.m.
There are few people with the expertise, life experience and conviction that empower them to challenge the current economic system that is called capitalism. Yanis Varoufakis is one of them and he goes a step further than most by proposing reforms - not just for his home Greece, and the European Economic Union of which Greece is part, but for the banking systems that dominate the world these days.
Yanis Varoufakis was already an internationally known economist and academic when he was elected to the Greek parliament as a member of the Syriza party. At the height of the Greek debt crisis he served as Minister of Finance from January to July 2015.
Varoufakis denounced the troika of lenders for forcing Greece to accept bailout loans that then were used to bail out the banks that had lent to Greece. Varoufakis said that this was a transfer of losses from private banks to Greece's and Europe's taxpayers - similar to the 2008 bailout of banks in the US â and he resigned as finance minister.
Varoufakis argues that in 2008 the capitalist system received a mortal blow that is slowly becoming apparent and will lead to another crash. One consequence of economic inequities is the rise of fascism in Europe and in the US. Donald Trump is not unique to the US, Varoufakis says, he is everywhere.
But there is another positive legacy from the US that might protect democracy from capitalism. Varoufakis is an expert on the American New Deal and he proposes that a new New Deal for the European Union, and ultimately the world, can protect democracy from capitalism.
In the previous TUC Radio program you heard Varoufakis' May 2018 speech at Town Hall, Seattle. In this program he answers questions from the audience beginning with: What is the role of economists in empowering people.
