This weekâs archive radio show â which originally aired on Donald Trumpâs Inauguration Day last year â tries to assure you that you shouldnât freak out even though actually you should be totally freaking out.
Then we contemplate our âexceptionalâ president who now claims an âexceptionalâ mandate if for no other reason than simply because he is so âexceptionalâ.
We then suggest that in spite of surface appearance, the Republican Party now resembles a dinosaur that â while still dangerous â is actually in the midst of its death throes.
Then we point out that âpolicyâ is not made on the news or even in the White House; âpolicyâ is determined in very secret rooms by some people that are themselves so secret that you almost certainly have never even heard of them.
You can find a directory of these people at www.theyrule.net
Next, we lament the heightened persecution of âalternativeâ performance spaces in lieu of the Ghost Ship fire in Oakland.
Then we end the News & Commentary section of this weekâs show with a somewhat comedic story from our local history about how just before the Civil War, the United States and England almost went to war over a frigging pig.

Out of the Woods - Show #406 - 1-20-18
Jan. 11, 2018, 5 a.m.
This version of the program is divided into 6 segments so broadcasters who desire to use this content can insert your station info, etc. The segments vary in length.
Out of the Woods is an earthy, wires and wood, mostly acoustic program featuring some of the best new and established artists from the worlds of folk, bluegrass, singer-songwriters, alt.country, Americana, classic country, old-time, Celtic, and everything that falls in between. The show is an unpredictable mix flowing like a river between moods, often with an edge or in a melancholy minor key. On occasion, Out of the Woods features interviews and live in-studio performances with national and international touring musicians. Past guests have included artists such as Bela Fleck, Si Kahn, Brown Bird, Dana Robinson, Steve Gillette & Cindy Mangsen, Kate MacLeod, Bill Bourne, Karl Shiflett, Rachel Bissex, Darryl Purpose, Bow Thayer, Cosy Sheridan and many others. Out of the Woods grew out of Jon 'Chip' Colcord's former acoustic programs, The Song Swap and Music For The Mountain, separate folk and bluegrass programs which aired in New Hampshire during the 1990s. As a child, Colcord grew up a ravenous music fan with an ear for both rock and folk. All of these influences converge on Out of the Woods to bring you a mix which is as much on the edge as it is down home. Folk music with a rock 'n' roll soul

Diana Johnstone Dissects the Myth of Russian Trolls
Jan. 9, 2018, 2:24 p.m.
The war hawks of Washington are beginning to play mind games; they want us to believe there are "armies" of Russian trolls working to undermine our democracy. Johnstone deflates the story pointing out it depends on one obscure name "Alice Donovan," whose actual identity is not known and is apparently a plagiarist! Some army.
More sinister is the FBI contacting progressive sites and making inquiries or passing on concerns - and sharing with big media, a tactic designed to be unsettling. The message is: Be anti-Russia or suffer consequences.

Jeremy Lent: Human History and the Climate
Jan. 9, 2018, 2:06 p.m.
As we move into a new year, and try to square 2017 in our rear view mirrors, it's an opportune moment to contemplate how we avoid repeating the mistakes of the past, both recent and ancient. This week on Sea Change Radio, we get philosophical with Jeremy Lent, whose new book, The Patterning Instinct seeks to explain what has made us tick as a species over the millennia. Lent and host Alex Wise talk about what the patterning instinct is, what we can learn from these human patterns, and how we can apply them to fight climate change.
