TB 180105 The Dictatorship of the Refrigerator
Jan. 4, 2018, 5:51 p.m.
This weekâs radio show starts off the new year with a lesson on how to be an activist! (Itâs a fun job â but somebodyâs gotta do it!)
Then, we reveal how Americans are educated just enough to not realize how uneducated they actually are. After that, we point out that humans have an amazing ability to accept insanity as normal when insanity becomes normalized â especially since if they ever rationally faced the insanity then they would probably go insane. Next, we fulfill our duty to utterly terrify you by pointing out how with recent advances in technology, then very soon the 1% may not need us to build their world for them any longer. (And you know their usual policy toward what they consider to be âuseless mouthsâ â i.e. someone that does not produce profit for them.)
Then, for the feature piece this week, we describe how David Patraeus â ex-head of the CIA â came right out and admitted that they are going to start using the âsmart gridâ and âsmart appliancesâ to spy on us.
Now your refrigerator will be spying on you right along with your phone, your computer, your car, and your alarm system, etc.
There will soon be nowhere that is safe.
The Thunderbolt is likely to broadcast news that will rock your socks. Beware.

Out of the Woods - Show #405 - 1-13-18
Jan. 4, 2018, 10:01 a.m.
This version of the program is divided into 6 segments so broadcasters who desire to use this content can insert your station info, etc. The segments vary in length.
Out of the Woods is an earthy, wires and wood, mostly acoustic program featuring some of the best new and established artists from the worlds of folk, bluegrass, singer-songwriters, alt.country, Americana, classic country, old-time, Celtic, and everything that falls in between. The show is an unpredictable mix flowing like a river between moods, often with an edge or in a melancholy minor key. On occasion, Out of the Woods features interviews and live in-studio performances with national and international touring musicians. Past guests have included artists such as Bela Fleck, Si Kahn, Brown Bird, Dana Robinson, Steve Gillette & Cindy Mangsen, Kate MacLeod, Bill Bourne, Karl Shiflett, Rachel Bissex, Darryl Purpose, Bow Thayer, Cosy Sheridan and many others. Out of the Woods grew out of Jon 'Chip' Colcord's former acoustic programs, The Song Swap and Music For The Mountain, separate folk and bluegrass programs which aired in New Hampshire during the 1990s. As a child, Colcord grew up a ravenous music fan with an ear for both rock and folk. All of these influences converge on Out of the Woods to bring you a mix which is as much on the edge as it is down home. Folk music with a rock 'n' roll soul

Andrew Bacevich: Why no antiwar movement to match #MeToo?
Jan. 3, 2018, 12:18 p.m.
Prof. Bacevich, author six books critiquing US military policy post WW2 has recently written an article wondering when an antiwar movement would emerge with the speed and energy of that which developed after the exposure of Harvey Weinstein as a sex predator. ("Still Waiting: A Harvey Weinstein Moment for America's Wars?" (Tom's Dispatch)
He sees the lack of an antiwar movement, in general, stemming from three causes at the moment, 1) the pre-occupation with Donald Trump and his daily antics; 2) the post-Vietnam military system which replaced the draft with a professional army which creates a distance between those in it and the general public and 3) the lack of an alternative party since when it comes to the use of American military power there has been no fundamental difference between Democrats and Republicans and no potential candidate for the Democrats in 2020 has challenged that norm.
He traces the problem to the failure of both parties to understand the implications of the ending of the Cold War and their belied in the efficiency of US military power to solve the world's problems. They have yet to make the serious evaluation that was required and the fingerprints on that are not only of Democrats and Republicans but also of the mainstream media, in which he singles out the NY Times and the Washington Post which have beat the drums for all US military adventures.
He faults Congress for allowing successive US presidents to use what has become an open-ended authorization for use of force act in response to 911 to justify every military adventure, many of which remain unknown until they end up like in Niger with 4 soldiers killed. Congress, he says, has forfeited its Constitutional responsibility for making war to the Executive Branch and there is no sign that it is ready to take that responsibility.
He views the infatuation of Americans with their electronic devices has both shorten their attention span and encouraged narcissism. This also applies to the success of the movements regarding race, sex, and gender which he considers to be positive overall but instead of adding to the overdue discussions and critiques of US military policy they have displaced them.
And there is much more.
Jeff Blankfort: News/Op: US-israel Secret Plan for Iran
Jan. 3, 2018, 11:50 a.m.
I open my commentary with a selection from an NPR Morning Edition interview regarding US plans for Syria as outline by War Secretary Mattis, pointing out the absence of any reference to the legitimacy of the US even being in Syria, pointing out that it is âauthorizedâ under the post-911 open-ended legislation that allowed Bush and the US to attack everywhere without further Congressional approval.
I then describe details of secret memorandum of understanding between the US and Israel signed in the White House 12/12 and revealed on Israeli TV. laying out the plans for the two countries to proceed against Iran, something no other president had done before and further evidence of the subjugation of Washington to Israel's foreign policy agenda.
I then quote a handful of Israeli agents, John Bolton, Dennis Ross and JINSA's Michael Makovsky on what US response should be to Iran protests. Makovsky calls for an Oded Yinon approach, upending all the surrounding countries who have no legitimacy and need to be broken up. I note that JINSA keeps a low profile but that it has 57 former admirals, generals, and police chiefs plus Joe Lieberman and John Bolton on its advisory board, that it sends ex-generals and admirals each year to Israel plus arranges for US police department chiefs to travel to Israel and learn counter-terror practices.
Finally, I cite ex-General Wesley Clark and his 2007 report that after 911 he had been given a list of Middle East countries that the Pentagon had marked for dismemberment. Only two, Lebanon and Iran remain.

Attorney Sahar Francis explains Israel's apartheid "justice" system for Palestinians
Jan. 2, 2018, 8:27 p.m.
Today our Palestinian voice is that of Sahar Francis, an attorney with Ademeer, a Palestinian Prison support and human rights advocacy organization. She spoke at the Harvard Law School and we were there to record her presentation. Here is a first hand account of the stark realities of Palestinian life under Israeli military occupation.
In Israel's apartheid "justice" system, Israelis are largely pampered and protected. Meanwhile, every Palestinian family has members now or recently imprisoned by the military. Children are in there too. Jailable offenses are vaguely defined. Arrest leads to lengthy indefinite detention, with no access to family or lawyers. Trials happen after long delay, in military courts that convict at the rate of 97%+.

Where Are the People in the Nuclear Age, Arnie Gundersen
Jan. 2, 2018, 5:51 p.m.
On December 2, 2017 the University of Chicago celebrated the 75th anniversary of the first nuclear chain reaction that led to the building of the atomic bomb and the nuclear power industry. The physicist Leo Szilard said at the time that by his and Enrico Fermi's invention universal death had come into the world. Today critics of the 2017 anniversary say that the lectures and events were biased in favor of nuclear weapons and nuclear power and even insulting to radiation victims as they culminated in fireworks in the shape of a mushroom cloud. The Nuclear Energy Information Service, NEIS, called attention to the plight of people who suffer the consequences of radiation. Dave Kraft of NEIS introduces the first speaker, Fairewinds Energy Education's Arnie Gundersen.
Gundersen talks about his trips to Japan to collect dirt samples following the nuclear reactor explosions at Fukushima and his work with Japanese citizens who learn to collect and analyze samples. Gundersen finds to this day serious contamination up to 300 miles from Fukushima - even in areas that have been declared safe to live. He describes the terrible social pressure placed on mothers to return, with their children, to communities contaminated with radioactive particles.â¨â¨He speaks of doctors under order from the Japanese government to diagnose the common effects of radiation as caused by stress. And he reveals that the NRC knew about the scale of the radiological contamination days after the meltdowns, describing the whole province of Fukushima as a contaminated zone. He also reveals that a stadium inside Fukushima province will be hosting the baseball competitions at the 2020 Olympics.
