Imperialism and Resistance in Syria and Palestine

May 12, 2018, 11 p.m.
As Lenin correctly pointed out more than a century ago, imperialism is the highest stage of capitalism, and it is not a policy but a system. Imperialism is the structure of the modern world. Global capitalism requires constant expansion, it requires new markets and new resources. Independent states, such as Syria, that try to maintain sovereign control over their economies for the benefit of their own people, are obstacles to the expansion of multi-national capitalist profits and are therefore targeted for destruction.

Doomsday and the Apocalyptic Trump Nuclear War Fighting Doctrine

May 12, 2018, 12:32 p.m.
Doomsday and the Apocalyptic Trump Nuclear War Fighting Doctrine with Zia Mian, physicist, activist and co-director of Princeton Universitys Program on Science and Global Security. His research and teaching focuses on nuclear weapons and nuclear energy policy. He is co-chair of the International Panel on Fissile Materials, a group of independent experts from eighteen countries working to reduce global stockpiles of nuclear weapon-useable material. He serves on the board of the Arms Control Association and received the Linus Pauling Legacy Award for his accomplishments as a scientist and as a peace activist in contributing to the global effort for nuclear disarmament and for a more peaceful world. At this time of multiple crises, we speak with one of the worlds most thoughtful and experienced foreign, military and nuclear policy analysists to discuss increasingly dangerous great power tensions, background and diplomatic options to Trumps crisis with Iran and not to be forgotten its saber-rattling with North Korea, the state of the nuclear arms races, and paths to greater peace and nuclear disarmament.

Mad Melanin: Afro-Sentimentalism; Political Disillusionment and Unpardonable Folly

May 11, 2018, 9:59 a.m.
This unscripted, spoken-word dispatch hosted by @TheAngryindian addresses a recent bout of insane, self-colonialised commentary and right-wing historical revisionism from a popular Afro-American musician (who does not seem to mind being the current poster-boy of the alt-Reich/White Supremacist movement) and other acts of Black Conservative lunacy coming from those eagerly queuing-up for an opportunity to tie knots in lynching-ropes for the people who traded Klan hoods for red #MAGA baseball caps. *(the producers apologise for the poor sound quality of this dispatch.) EXTRAS: Our usual mix of politically progressive PSAs; archived liberation news media from civil rights activist Robert F. Williams and Pop-Culture clips and sounds from ‘Clarence-Thomas’ by Angono-Ska-Explosion – and – ‘They Won't Help You’ by The Movement fill-in the empty spaces of this Internet Radio broadcast (IRB). All this and much more on, 4WR. The official internet radio broadcast of the Aboriginal Press News Service

La Zad Reclaiming the Commons

May 10, 2018, 8:48 p.m.
In 1965 a block of land in western France was sent aside for a new airport which was to provide an international gateway to the area. Earlier this year the airport development was cancelled. The decades long struggle to defend the land has become an enmoreous story and an inspiration to resistance movements especially anarchist worldwide. John Jordan orginally from England has lived in France for many years. He's been involved in the defence of this land for six years and living on site for two. The site is called ZAD Z.A.D when I spoke to John I began by asking him to describe what the ZAD is.

TB 180511 The True Dragon 2X

May 10, 2018, 7:31 p.m.
This week’s archive radio show (culled from right in the middle of the last election) features the latest product from the venture capital arm of the CIA! (You can be a multi-tasker by softening your skin even whilst simultaneously providing your DNA to the CIA!) (Don’t worry though! You won’t even know about it!) Next, we describe the real possibility that our machines are about to pass us right on by and take over the world — partly because activists these days resemble wounded bassoons that are being stalked by evil clarinets. After that we encourage listeners to ‘move on’ from both the established political parties (and thus quit enabling their abusers) we reveal how the 0.1% regularly co-opts opposition movements and turns them to their own evil ends (again, usually the people involved don’t even know this) and then — for the feature piece this week — we reveal the True Dragon that I conjectured was going to arise — and that indeed did arise — from Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign. (I like playing some of these old pieces because they always prove how prophetic I was…) Ogres, trolls, dragons — they are all legitimate targets for being Thunderbolted!

Sonic Cafe #86/Rick Wakeman: Journey To The Center Of The Earth

May 10, 2018, 7:18 a.m.
Welcome to a very special edition of the Sonic Café. I’m your host Scott Clark and this is episode 86. This time the Sonic Café presents Rick Wakeman’s spectacular concept album Journey to the Center of the Earth in its’ entirety. Inspired by Jules Vernes 1864 science fiction masterpiece, Rick Wakeman, who was also with the progressive rock group Yes at the time, created Journey to the Center of the Earth in 1973, and along with a crew of 120, toured the world with it. Released in 1974, the album reached number one on the UK Charts, and peaked at number 3 in the US. To get a feel for all of this we’ll also present an interview Rick gave in 1975 where he discusses the logistics of that world tour. Then later, to give you insight into his personality we’ll present Rick’s speech at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at the induction ceremony for Yes. And finally, to round out your Journey experience, listen for the trailer from the 2008 movie release of Journey to the Center of the Earth presented in 3D. And now our journey begins with the trailer form the original 1959 movie, filmed in cinemascope along with the Steve Hayes movie review of that film, as we embark on our Journey to the Center of the Earth, here at the Sonic Café.

Out of the Woods - Show #423 - 5-19-18

May 10, 2018, 4:53 a.m.
This version of the program is divided into 6 segments so broadcasters who desire to use this content can insert your station info, etc. The segments vary in length. Out of the Woods is an earthy, wires and wood, mostly acoustic program featuring some of the best new and established artists from the worlds of folk, bluegrass, singer-songwriters, alt.country, Americana, classic country, old-time, Celtic, and everything that falls in between. The show is an unpredictable mix flowing like a river between moods, often with an edge or in a melancholy minor key. On occasion, Out of the Woods features interviews and live in-studio performances with national and international touring musicians. Past guests have included artists such as Bela Fleck, Si Kahn, Brown Bird, Dana Robinson, Steve Gillette & Cindy Mangsen, Kate MacLeod, Bill Bourne, Karl Shiflett, Rachel Bissex, Darryl Purpose, Bow Thayer, Cosy Sheridan and many others. Out of the Woods grew out of Jon 'Chip' Colcord's former acoustic programs, The Song Swap and Music For The Mountain, separate folk and bluegrass programs which aired in New Hampshire during the 1990s. As a child, Colcord grew up a ravenous music fan with an ear for both rock and folk. All of these influences converge on Out of the Woods to bring you a mix which is as much on the edge as it is down home. Folk music with a rock 'n' roll soul
