Centinel allowed that the Articles of Confederation were unwieldy and had questionable mechanisms for collecting taxes. He was concerned that the new Constitution would be a radical departure from the existing charter, that the taxes collected would take a larger share than what the people were accustomed to, and that one [Federal] overarching government would be a juggernaut. In Paper No. 4, Centinel invoked the Swiss model and emphasized that it would be the best for the fledgling nation. Centinel knew of and lamented the deception practiced by the Founders, who discarded the Articles of Confederation under the false rubric of revising them.

Out of the Woods is an earthy, wires and wood, mostly acoustic program featuring some of the best new and established artists from the worlds of folk, bluegrass, singer-songwriters, alt.country, Americana, classic country, old-time, Celtic, and everything that falls in between. The show is an unpredictable mix flowing like a river between moods, often with an edge or in a melancholy minor key. On occasion, Out of the Woods features interviews and live in-studio performances with national and international touring musicians. Past guests have included artists such as Bela Fleck, Si Kahn, Brown Bird, Dana Robinson, Steve Gillette & Cindy Mangsen, Kate MacLeod, Bill Bourne, Karl Shiflett, Rachel Bissex, Darryl Purpose, Bow Thayer, Cosy Sheridan and many others. Out of the Woods grew out of Jon 'Chip' Colcord's former acoustic programs, The Song Swap and Music For The Mountain, separate folk and bluegrass programs which aired in New Hampshire during the 1990s. As a child, Colcord grew up a ravenous music fan with an ear for both rock and folk. Is the NDP beginning to grow eyes and ears in recognizing its inaction on Palestine? There is an internal struggle in the party over its approach. Yves Engler describes a petition by Canadian luminaries calling for the NDP to break certain ties with the apartheid state.
First, we have to get rid of our prejudices. Most Palestinian organisations are banned from polite Canadian discourse, yet politicians can cavort with racist Israel settler organisations without censure.

Among Mazin Qumsiyeh's impressive qualifications are his MD degree and genetics professorship at Yale School of Medicine. Thus the basic outline summarized above. In this riveting presentation recently at the Community Church of Boston, he explains why we must recognize, celebrate, and cultivate diversity in all matters. This applies to the environment and to human community building. It also means one democratic state for Palestine/"Israel", ending apartheid forever.

Qumsiyeh was 13 years old when his uncle died, and that is when he resolved to fulfill not only his uncleâs mission of doing research on mammals but also his dream of building a museum. Qumsiyeh, who has taught at Duke and Yale universities, now teaches at Bethlehem and Birzeit universities. He has published more than 140 scientific papers on topics ranging from systematics to biodiversity to cancer. He has also published several books, including Bats of Egypt, Mammals of the Holy Land, Sharing the Land of Canaan, and Popular Resistance in Palestine.â

Yanis Varoufakis: Is Capitalism Devouring Democracy?

The two June 2018 programs by TUC radio with the economist and former Greek finance minister Yanis Varoufakis drew such a huge response that we are following up with an extraordinary excerpt from a May 9, 2018, talk at the Cambridge Forum.
In that talk Yanis Varoufakis makes the point that democracy and capitalism are incompatible. However capitalism also can't maintain itself - he says - it is a self devouring system. And he invites us today to resolve the question of who is going to survive, democracy or the global financial system.
In this excerpt of his near two hour talk Varoufakis traces the origins of the current economic crisis from 1929 through the New Deal through WWII through Bretton Woods to 2008 and beyond.
Varoufakis is weaving in illuminating historic facts such as why bankers were not allowed to participate in the drafting of Bretton Woods, how the Marshall Plan saved the US economy, how Bretton Woods collapsed in the 1970s, and why and how bankers became instrumental in rescuing the US from collapse after the US bankrupted itself by going on a global shopping spree - and why we need a new New Deal.
Yanis Varoufakis was already an internationally known economist and academic when he was elected to the Greek parliament as a member of the Syriza party. At the height of the Greek debt crisis he served as Minister of Finance in 2015. He resigned in protest over the imposition of structural adjustment and bailout loans on the Greek people.
Varoufakis had been invited to the US to talk about his most recent book: Talking to My Daughter About the Economy. Among his other books are: Adults in the Room, And the Weak Suffer What They Must?, and The Global Minotaur, America, the True Causes of the Financial Crisis and the Future of the World Economy.
Yanis Varoufakis is a cofounder of an international grassroots movement, DiEM25 (Democracy in Europe Movement 2025). After teaching for many years in the United States, Great Britain, and Australia, he is currently a professor of economics at the University of Athens.
