Interview following NEISâ âThe End of the Nuclear Age: Where are the People?â event with Arnie Gundersen and Norma Field at DePaul University. Dr. Field speaks of her solidarity work with Japanese effected by the Fukushima disaster. When the government failed to prosecute anyone in its aftermath, one woman organized a peoples campaign to demand accountability. She speaks of that and the tradition of protest against government abuse and injustice and in opposition to nuclear power and militarism specifically. She refers to some largely unknown but shared experiences in American and Japanese society.
Attorney Sahar Francis explains Israel's apartheid "justice" system for Palestinians
Jan. 2, 2018, 8:27 p.m.
Today our Palestinian voice is that of Sahar Francis, an attorney with Ademeer, a Palestinian Prison support and human rights advocacy organization. She spoke at the Harvard Law School and we were there to record her presentation. Here is a first hand account of the stark realities of Palestinian life under Israeli military occupation.
In Israel's apartheid "justice" system, Israelis are largely pampered and protected. Meanwhile, every Palestinian family has members now or recently imprisoned by the military. Children are in there too. Jailable offenses are vaguely defined. Arrest leads to lengthy indefinite detention, with no access to family or lawyers. Trials happen after long delay, in military courts that convict at the rate of 97%+.

Where Are the People in the Nuclear Age, Arnie Gundersen
Jan. 2, 2018, 5:51 p.m.
On December 2, 2017 the University of Chicago celebrated the 75th anniversary of the first nuclear chain reaction that led to the building of the atomic bomb and the nuclear power industry. The physicist Leo Szilard said at the time that by his and Enrico Fermi's invention universal death had come into the world. Today critics of the 2017 anniversary say that the lectures and events were biased in favor of nuclear weapons and nuclear power and even insulting to radiation victims as they culminated in fireworks in the shape of a mushroom cloud. The Nuclear Energy Information Service, NEIS, called attention to the plight of people who suffer the consequences of radiation. Dave Kraft of NEIS introduces the first speaker, Fairewinds Energy Education's Arnie Gundersen.
Gundersen talks about his trips to Japan to collect dirt samples following the nuclear reactor explosions at Fukushima and his work with Japanese citizens who learn to collect and analyze samples. Gundersen finds to this day serious contamination up to 300 miles from Fukushima - even in areas that have been declared safe to live. He describes the terrible social pressure placed on mothers to return, with their children, to communities contaminated with radioactive particles.â¨â¨He speaks of doctors under order from the Japanese government to diagnose the common effects of radiation as caused by stress. And he reveals that the NRC knew about the scale of the radiological contamination days after the meltdowns, describing the whole province of Fukushima as a contaminated zone. He also reveals that a stadium inside Fukushima province will be hosting the baseball competitions at the 2020 Olympics.

Episode 2017.18.1-3. Cleaning out the 2017 Vault, CWBs End of the Year Round Up!
Jan. 1, 2018, 2:28 p.m.
Though I am posting this on January First, it is the final episode of the 2017 season.
No extended commentary needed, thereâs already a bunch to listen to! I found 5 segments and partial episodes that were too good to let rest, so I jammed them together into this Year End Spectacular, included with them are an additional 20 clips on various topics including; SNL skits, a Colbert monologue, a funny parody of an (you might want to sit down for this one) Arianna Grande song, an interesting take on Feminism, a reminder of the Flint Water Crisis, an RFK clip, sorry no Chris Hedges to follow him though (wink), a deportation expose by the Real News Network, an amazingly apt and witty clip from China Uncensored, some very good podcast excerpts about Donald Trumpâs election victory that seem very appropriate right now, some clips on the Alt-Right, Wal-Mart and more. I didnât realize till I was completely done editing that I didnât include any clips on Puerto Rico or the horrific explosion of wild fires and hurricanes the U.S experienced recently, there will be time to work on that in the New Year though. Have a great New Year and try not to celebrate this contribution to the CWB catalogue â to hard!

Dec. 31, 2017, 6:39 p.m.
In this program we look back and forward with the remarkable Dr. Paul Salaman from Rainforest Trust. Content warning: a little optimism may creep in. Then one of the strangest outcomes on a warming planet: babies who experience even a short period of heat stress in the womb, will on average have a lower income 30 years later. Think about that, as we explore new science lead by Dr. Maya Rossin-Slater from the Stanford School of Medicine.

#513 -- SCADs and Conspiracy Theories, Part 2 (R)
Dec. 31, 2017, 9:20 a.m.
Public policy scholar Lance deHaven-Smith discusses the concepts of "conspiracy theories" and SCADs--State Crimes Against Democracy. "Conspiracy theory" is a smear introduced by the CIA. SCADs are genuine crimes committed by high government officials.
Part 2 discusses both concepts and provides many little-known facts about proven, probable, and possible SCADs. One focus is this country's many completed or attempted assassinations. Another is the voting machine frauds of 2000 and 2004.
