Champions For Sacred Lands
May 9, 2017, 5:56 p.m.
Was all the work to try to keep the Keystone XL and Dakota Access pipelines from being built done in vain now that Donald Trump occupies the White House? Not if you ask this week's guest on Sea Change Radio, Kandi Mossett, a leading organizer for the Indigenous Environmental Network. Mossett takes us behind the scenes of Native Americans' fight to preserve their sacred lands. We discuss the connection between protecting the environment and advocating for Native American rights, talk about how struggles from Standing Rock to Bears Ears have stimulated activism and raised awareness, and recognize the value that this movement has, even in the face of setbacks (like the ascension of an obscenely pro-corporate presidential administration).

Noam Chomsky: Racing to the Precipice (TWO of TWO)
May 9, 2017, 9:16 a.m.
Noam Chomsky spoke at the MIT Starr Forum on March 23, 2017 to the dual danger we are facing today - nuclear extinction and climate change. In a scathing indictment of the current administration Chomsky explained that we are not just sleepwalking into disaster but are purposefully racing to the precipice.
In this concluding segment Chomsky begins by covering climate science from recent publication, including sea level rise, CO2 emissions exceeding 400 ppm.
Chomsky also remembers his intensely personal experience of the beginning of the nuclear age and and explains the Anthropocene as defined by the World Geological Society.
Noam Chomsky is Institute Professor Emeritus at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he has worked since 1955. And he is the author of over 100 books.

Out of the Woods - Show #370 - 5-13-17
May 8, 2017, 5:11 a.m.
This version of the program is divided into 6 segments so broadcasters who desire to use this content can insert your station info, etc. The segments vary in length.
Out of the Woods is an earthy, wires and wood, mostly acoustic program featuring some of the best new and established artists from the worlds of folk, bluegrass, singer-songwriters, alt.country, Americana, classic country, old-time, Celtic, and everything that falls in between. The show is an unpredictable mix flowing like a river between moods, often with an edge or in a melancholy minor key. On occasion, Out of the Woods features interviews and live in-studio performances with national and international touring musicians. Past guests have included artists such as Bela Fleck, Si Kahn, Brown Bird, Dana Robinson, Steve Gillette & Cindy Mangsen, Kate MacLeod, Bill Bourne, Karl Shiflett, Rachel Bissex, Darryl Purpose, Bow Thayer, Cosy Sheridan and many others. Out of the Woods grew out of Jon 'Chip' Colcord's former acoustic programs, The Song Swap and Music For The Mountain, separate folk and bluegrass programs which aired in New Hampshire during the 1990s. As a child, Colcord grew up a ravenous music fan with an ear for both rock and folk. All of these influences converge on Out of the Woods to bring you a mix which is as much on the edge as it is down home. Folk music with a rock 'n' roll soul
