Dr. Victoria Patterson: It Does Not Require Many Words to Speak the Truth
Jan. 24, 2017, 8:25 p.m.
This week, we continue our discussion with ethnologist Dr. Victoria Patterson. We talk about how the United States treated the Native people of North America initially, and later during the westward expansion. We also discuss the consequences to the Native people when they entered into written treaties with the United States. Not having a written language, they relied on the carefully chosen words they spoke during the treaty negotiations and the words spoken by the representatives of the United States.
If The Dutch Ruled The World
Jan. 24, 2017, 6:51 p.m.
When liberal politicians suggest we look for policy-making inspiration from social democracies in Europe, the automatic reaction from some corners of the political scene is something like "well, then, move to Sweden!" or "Love it or leave it!" But today, reflecting upon the millions of women, men, and children who participated in the historical march over the weekend, its pretty clear that advocating for change is part of why we do love it. There is no reason that we can't take lessons from other systems in our collective pursuit of a more perfect union, not to mention a more healthy environment. This week on Sea Change Radio we take a peek at how the Dutch do things. Host Alex Wise speaks with two American MikeFawcettenvironmentalists based in the Netherlands to get their perspective on Hollands environmental policies and practices. Michael Payne, a wind energy and bicycle advocate, and Mike Fawcett, the founder of Farm Zero discuss the cultural, economic, and financial keys to Dutch sustainability.
Naomi Klein: Change the System, not the Climate
Jan. 24, 2017, 5:36 p.m.
Naomi Klein is best known for her book: This Changes Everything, Capitalism versus the Climate. She wrote: ... itâs not about carbonâitâs about capitalism... [and] we can seize this existential crisis to transform our failed economic system and build something radically better.
An important document towards building a better future is the Leap Manifesto. It calls for a restructuring of the Canadian economy and an end to the use of fossil fuels. The Leap Manifesto was initiated in the spring of 2015 at a two-day meeting in Toronto. Among those who wrote it were representatives from Canadaâs Indigenous rights, social and food justice, environmental, faith-based and labor movements. And Naomi Klein gives a summary of the manifesto in this program.

'Moderate rebels' rampage in Syria and now export terror
Jan. 24, 2017, 8:47 a.m.
Steven Sahyounie in Syria explains how Saudi and Turkish support for multiple terrorist groups operating inside Syria have now backfired on the funders themselves. Recent attacks in Turkey have been carried out by those who Erdogan imported into Syria, who later returned to Turkey after engaging in sectarian combat.
Sahyounie also comments on how the 'moderate rebels' have repeatedly attacked Syrian civilians' water supply in Wadi Barada.
The fighting in Deir ez-Zor remains intense. The earlier U.S. bombing of a Syrian army position facilitated an ISIS assault, but Syrian resistance means that the area will probably not become an ISIS principality.
Regrettably, the renewed ISIS assault on Palmyra has led to further destruction of humanity's collective architectural heritage. The need for genuine international co-operation to fight sectarian extremist terrorism is more apparent than ever. But first, America and its vassals have to cast aside their desire to be master of the region.

OVOC 2 - Inaugurate the Resistance!
Jan. 23, 2017, 4:24 p.m.
From the Organizers:
Trump's pro-billionaire agenda and plans to wage war on the environment, deport three million immigrants, undermine public sector unions, and nominate a reactionary Supreme Court justice are not just idle threats. Yet the neoliberal leaders of the Democratic Party cannot stop Trump now, anymore than during the election. How can we build powerful mass movements capable of decisively defeating the right and providing a real alternative for ordinary working people, immigrants, LGBTQ people and youth? Can the Democratic Party be reformed, or does the left need to build independently?

Jan. 22, 2017, 1:30 p.m.
In this hard-hitting talk at Harvard Law School, Ralph Nader indicts both Barack Obama and G.W. Bush for their (clearly impeachable) crimes against the U.S. Constitution and against the people of the United States. And he denounces the needless suffering and deaths caused by government policies that place corporate profits over the welfare of the citizens. On a positive note, Nader urges law students to be "first responders" in defense of our liberties. Includes selected Q&A.
