He talks about the recent confirmation hearings for Sessions and the protests against his nomination as chief law enforcement officer of the US. Crawford says members of Congress must reject confirmation of Senator Jeffrey Beauregard Sessions as US Attorney General " who is a known racist with a long record of opposing civil rights and equality, and it is unimaginable that Sessions could be entrusted to serve as the nations top law enforcement official. Leading the charge against Sessions has been the NAACP, whose members recently sat-in Sessions Mobile, Alabama office to protest the nomination - which ended when six people, included NAACP President Cornell W. Brooks were arrested and face criminal trespass charges. They also staged a sit-in during the confirmation hearings. ************************* Plus Cornell Brooks of NAACP testifies on Sessions Nomination before the Senate Judiciary Committee NAACP President and CEO Cornell William Brooks lead the group who opposed the nomination saying Senator Sessions record conclusively demonstrates that he lacks the judgment and temperament to serve effectively as Attorney General of the United States. Senator Sessions record throughout his careerevinces a clear disregard, disrespect, and even disdain for the civil and human rights of racial and ethnic minorities, women, the disabled, and others who suffer from discrimination in this country.

What's Really Going On in Syria: Conversations with Eva Bartlett and Steven Gowans

Jan. 13, 2017, 9:22 a.m.
On this week's Global Research News Hour, we attempt to separate myth and reality when it comes to reporting on the situation in Syria. We start with a conversation with Canadian journalist Eva Bartlett. She has reported from Gaza during the Israeli assaults there in 2008/9 and 2012. And since April 2014, she has travelled to various parts of Syria no less than six times, including four visits to the ravaged city of Alleppo. Her reports are at odds with the common Western narrative about the Syrian peoples' victimhood under Assad and the threat he and the Russian government pose to the welfare of civilians in the country. She shares with listeners her on the ground reports and allow her to respond to the attacks she has received from so-called fact-checking bodies seeking to discredit her. We then hear from Steven Gowans. The Ottawa based author of the 'What's Left' blog and of the new book "Washington's Long War on Syria" gives listeners a breakdown of the nature of the so-called revolution against Assad, the myth of it originating in non-violent protests, and the actual reasons for Washington's involvement in the country.
