Out of the Woods - Show #354 - 1-21-17

Jan. 12, 2017, 6:35 p.m.
This version of the program is divided into 6 segments so broadcasters who desire to use this content can insert your station info, etc. The segments vary in length. Out of the Woods is an earthy, wires and wood, mostly acoustic program featuring some of the best new and established artists from the worlds of folk, bluegrass, singer-songwriters, alt.country, Americana, classic country, old-time, Celtic, and everything that falls in between. The show is an unpredictable mix flowing like a river between moods, often with an edge or in a melancholy minor key. On occasion, Out of the Woods features interviews and live in-studio performances with national and international touring musicians. Past guests have included artists such as Bela Fleck, Si Kahn, Brown Bird, Dana Robinson, Steve Gillette & Cindy Mangsen, Kate MacLeod, Bill Bourne, Karl Shiflett, Rachel Bissex, Darryl Purpose, Bow Thayer, Cosy Sheridan and many others. Out of the Woods grew out of Jon 'Chip' Colcord's former acoustic programs, The Song Swap and Music For The Mountain, separate folk and bluegrass programs which aired in New Hampshire during the 1990s. As a child, Colcord grew up a ravenous music fan with an ear for both rock and folk. All of these influences converge on Out of the Woods to bring you a mix which is as much on the edge as it is down home. Folk music with a rock 'n' roll soul

To end Syrian conflict, stop destabilizing Syria

Jan. 12, 2017, 4:49 p.m.
Stephen Gowans discusses two of his late-2016 articles concerning Washington's campaign to remove the Syrian government. As elsewhere, the U.S. has cultivated reactionary forces within the Islamic world to counter Arab efforts at self-determination and liberation. The U.S. use of Saudi-aligned terrorists to remove Syria's government reflects Washington's century-long campaign against independent or socialist governments. Recognizing the Syrian counter-revolution promoted by NATO is an important step towards ending war in the country.

JANUARY 11, 2017 - WHAT REALLY HAPPENED TO MLK

Jan. 12, 2017, 7:31 a.m.
Cheryl shares the speech given by Dr. William Pepper at the Left Forum 2016 on the Deep State Panel on Assassinations. As our local communities honor MLK this month, you can bet that none of them will mention the 1999 trial that proved that the murder of Dr. King was an act of state. They won't mention that James Earl Ray was innocent, or that we now know who really murdered MLK. On this show Dr. Pepper talks about the evidence he has gathered over the last 35 years and has included in his new book "The Plot to Kill King". I highly recommend reading this new book that has even more evidence than Dr. Pepper's last book "An Act of State". King did not die from the gun shot wounds. Read the book to find out what happened in the hospital to finally kill King. The full video can be seen on Youtube by searching for William Pepper and Left Forum 2016, or on www.noliesradio.org

Phil Giraldi on Alleged Russian Hacking and US Hypocrisy

Jan. 11, 2017, 10:08 p.m.
Former intelligence agent, Giraldi was interviewed immediately following Donald Trump’s press conference and pointed to inconsistency in Trump’s position but suggested that his more amicable approach to Russia runs up against the neocons and warmongers in both parties who have been pushing for a confrontation with Moscow, being still mired in the anti-Soviet mindset of a past generation. The discussion centered on Giraldi’s article in Unz Review for Jan.10., “Washington Invented Hacking and Intervening in Elections.” Giraldi notes that the size of Russia’s economy is the same as that of Italy and whereas the US has hundreds of military bases all over the globe, Russia has one outside of its borders and that’s in Syria. He notes that in the name of “democracy promotion” the US has overthrown legitimate governments, going back to Mosadegh in Iran in 1953, the real goal of which has been to serve US global interests. He points out that this has been the case in Latin America, Asia and Africa, as well. Giraldi reviews the recent history of Ukraine and how the US supported coup against a legally elected government has brought into power ultra-right wing forces whose role the US pretended was minimal. The discussion also covered the primary affection of the neocons being Israel and that their actions are usually taken to benefit what they perceive as Israel’s interest, referring back to PNAC necon Paul Wolfowitz who lobbied for overthrowing Saddam Hussein in the early days of the GW Bush administration, claiming that Saddam was paying off Palestinians who attacked Israelis.

Jeff Blankfort/NewsOps: Hacking Fiasco,Israel Lobby Exposed in UK

Jan. 11, 2017, 7:52 p.m.
Blankfort reviewed the conclusions of the “intelligence” agencies report on alleged Russian hacking of the Democratic National Committee and John Podesta’s emails and found it ludicrous that its most important finding was that the Putin and the Russians supported Trump and opposed Clinton, that the Russians were trying to undermine Americans’ faith in their electoral system, as if that wasn’t widely acknowledged and denigrate the reputation of Hillary Clinton as if she had one left to lose. He also notes that NPR (National Propaganda Radio) morning and afternoon news programs have devoted at least one story every hour to attacking Russia and/or Putin, whether for the hacking or emails or charges of aggression, real or threatened against its neighbors while unlike the NY Times, for example, raised questions about the validity of the agencies’ findings, albeit buried far down in its coverage. He also notes the latest proof of Israel’s ownership of Congress and its control of the media by describing the bi-partisan attack on the Obama administration for abstaining in the Security Council on the resolution condemning Israel and failing to mention or interview the one senator, Diane Feinstein, who defended the abstention. He then quotes Sen JW Fulbright’s comments 40 years ago about AIPAC’s power over Congress and why he was their first target; for holding hearings in 1963 that revealed that Israel was illegally using donations from American Jews to pay for pro-Israel propaganda in the US through the American Zionist Council. This led President Kennedy to call for his brother RFK’s Justice Dept. for force the AZC to register as a foreign agent but its lawyers prevented that from happening until an assassin’s bullet in Dallas removed the problem. Blankfort mentions how Grant Smith of Inst. For Research: Middle East Policy, tried to re-open Bobby Kennedy’s efforts at the Justice Dept. but found it to be as much under Israel’s thumb as Congress. His book, Smith’s book, “Foreign Agents: The American Israel Public Affairs Committee from the 1963 Fulbright Hearings to the 2005 Espionage Scandal,” is the definitive and only book on the subject and can be ordered online, as can his latest, “Big Israel, How Israel’s Lobby Moves America,” which supplies the details and the tax-exempt fund raising for Israel that the media ignores.

Syrians have endured and resisted for six years in the face of a concerted regime-change campaign that punishes civilians for supporting their elected government. We need to pressure our governments to stop fueling the conflict in Syria so that civilians can rebuild on their own terms.

Eric Schlosser - Do You Really Want to Eat That? (Archive)

Jan. 10, 2017, 9:25 p.m.
Fast food is what many people eat in America, and increasingly in other countries. It is advertised to be fun, tasty, and easily available. Americans spend more money annually on fast food than is spent on higher education. Eric Schlosser is our guest in this archive edition.  He’s the author of Fast Food Nation: The Dark Side of the All-American Meal. Schlosser writes that it is not only what is served for human consumption that is the problem, but the art of mass-marketing to children through organized promotions and ads for the products—in school busses, hallways, and even bathroom stalls—has serious side effects on society.
